Chapter 73 I thought you were going to do something to me
Chapter 73: Chapter 73 I thought you were going to do something to me
"What time do you think it is, and you’re still so picky."
Qiao Xi truly regretted bringing him here, wishing she had simply let him sleep under a bridge outside.
"My assistant has only slept here a few times." Seeing Shen Dang’s resistant expression, Qiao Xi immediately added, "But the bed sheets have just been washed and are very clean, and there’s nowhere to buy new ones now."
Shen Dang walked over and sat on the sofa, crossing his long legs like a Buddha statue, creating a somewhat oppressive atmosphere, "I’ll sleep here tonight."
Qiao Xi nodded, "Alright, if you’re happy with that."
"I’m going to take a shower, do whatever you want." Qiao Xi put her water cup back on the coffee table.
Today she wore a dress with a purple cardigan over it.
The neckline of the dress was round and somewhat low. As she bent over, the soft whiteness peeked out unexpectedly, enticing and arousing, delivering a tremendous shock to Shen Dang.
A woman full of vitality and allure.
A man’s mind filled with wild thoughts.
"..."
For a moment, Shen Dang felt his throat go dry, his Adam’s apple unconsciously bobbing up and down.
When Qiao Xi looked up and noticed his face looked strange, she couldn’t help but nosily ask, "What’s wrong with you?"
Shen Dang swiftly moved his gaze from her chest to her face, "Aren’t you going to take a shower? Hurry up!"
His voice was deadly husky, rough and deep.
Qiao Xi: "..."
Such a temperamental freak, getting angry for no good reason.
Qiao Xi stopped at the door to her room, then turned back with a snicker, "Boss Shen, if you’re feeling heated, drink some herbal tea."
Boss Shen: "..."
He really was about to get heated now—the kind he couldn’t contain.
Watching her disappear behind the door, Shen Dang leaned on the sofa with a hand on his forehead and suddenly let out a deep, raspy chuckle.
It was a short laugh, but carried an indescribable allure.
Had Qiao Xi been there, she might have drowned in the sound of his voice all over again.
Qiao Xi’s room included a bathroom, which she locked before taking a shower.
Shen Dang was a gentleman, true, but living with a grown man, she had to be cautious.
Even if it made her out to be overly suspicious.
Qiao Xi didn’t leave her room after her shower, while Shen Dang frustratingly lay on the couch, which could hardly accommodate his long legs.
After a while, the doorbell rang.
Shen Dang glanced towards the door, "Who would come looking for her at this late hour?"
Shen Dang knocked on Qiao Xi’s door: "Someone’s looking for you."
Qiao Xi came out after putting on a coat over her pajamas, eyeing Shen Dang, "Hide. Don’t let the person outside see you."
"... Alright."
Standing outside was Qin Mo. Qiao Xi’s expression turned to surprise upon seeing him, "Qin Mo, what brings you here so late?"
He had a faint smell of alcohol about him.
Qiao Xi stood inside the door, her expression cool and attitude distant yet polite, maintaining a certain boundary.
She appeared utterly different in front of him than she had not long before, in the company of another.
He had not expected Qiao Xi’s husband to be Shen Dang.
Qin Mo didn’t dare take another step closer, treading carefully, deeply reserved and restrained, as if he couldn’t even aspire to be friends with her.
His smile was soft, "I just wanted to see if you were hungry. Some people from the crew are eating downstairs, want to join us?"
Qiao Xi declined his invitation with a smile, "No, that’s okay. You guys eat. I’m going to sleep."
Qin Mo’s smile turned slightly bitter, "Then... good night."
After closing the door, Qiao Xi saw Shen Dang’s lips curling into a significant smile, unfathomable to her.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"How would you know I’m looking at you if you weren’t looking at me?"
From his position, Shen Dang couldn’t see Qin Mo in the living room, but from where Shen Dang sat, he could see Qin Mo standing outside the door.
Wasn’t that the same man from the club entrance just now?
Unable to help herself, Qiao Xi rolled her eyes, pulling her coat around her and coolly averting her gaze, "Let’s sleep."
"Then... good night."
Taunting.
Qiao Xi said with a half-smile, "I hope Boss Shen has sweet dreams tonight."
Let him sleep on the couch if he liked. Serves him right to be uncomfortable!
In the middle of the night, Qiao Xi got up for a drink of water and paused in the living room.
Through the dim light from the window, she saw a vague silhouette on the couch.
Shen Dang was curled up on the sofa, and Qiao Xi observed him with some interest.
Hmm, it seemed she really had put Boss Shen through some discomfort.
After finishing her water, Qiao Xi returned to her room but came out again within a minute, this time carrying a blanket.
She wasn’t doing it for Shen Dang, Qiao Xi thought.
She shook the blanket out and laid it over Shen Dang.
"What are you doing?"
A low, husky voice suddenly broke the darkness.
And then her wrist was caught, tightly.
Qiao Xi jumped, startled.
"Covering you with a blanket," Qiao Xi said, none too pleased.
"I thought you were going to do something to me," Shen Dang replied lazily, his voice seeming edged with laughter.
What could she possibly do to him?
Still holding her hand, Qiao Xi yanked it back, her voice void of emotion, "When did you wake up?"
"Just when you were covering me with the blanket."
In truth, Shen Dang had been aware of her presence the moment she entered the living room, including her back-and-forth footfalls.
He was even more aware when Qiao Xi approached.
He smelled her scent wafting over, faint and enticing, as if stirring some desire in his heart.
Especially on such a night.
There are times when one simply can’t control oneself, and he had reflexively grabbed her hand.
The darkness magnified every sensation, and though Qiao Xi could only see his blurry outline, not his expression, she felt the pressure of his gaze.
What was she doing at this late hour?
Qiao Xi regretted acting so impulsively.
Qiao Xi snapped, "Let go."
"If I really get sick tomorrow, then I might not go to the Civil Affairs Bureau," he nonchalantly threatened.
Fine, he had intimidated her.
Qiao Xi immediately let go, said nothing more, and turned back to her room.
After she closed the door, Shen Dang even heard her lock it.
He hummed a thoughtful chuckle to himself, lay back on the sofa, covered himself with the blanket, and fell asleep again.
He slept till morning came.
When Qiao Xi got up, she first got herself ready and packed her bags before leaving her room.
No matter how uncomfortable Shen Dang had been last night, by the next day, he had returned to his usual casual and arrogant self.
His face was delicate and noble, his demeanor extraordinary.
No wonder all the heiresses in Hai City were waiting eagerly for their divorce.
