Chapter 244: Hug You, Missing You
Chapter 244: Chapter 244: Hug You, Missing You
However, Qiao Xi’s gaze was always drawn to his tie.
She quickly averted her eyes.
"No matter how late it is, it’s not too late to see someone you want to see," Shen Dang said with a twinkle in his eye, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Qiao Xi had no response.
She wondered if Boss Shen had secretly taken some private class on the side because he was able to spout such slightly cheesy pick-up lines.
Shen Dang noticed that a movie was playing on the projector and raised an eyebrow, "Watching a movie by yourself?"
"Is there a problem?"
Qiao Xi sat on the carpet next to the sofa, crossed-legged, and without turning her head, stared straight at the projector while speaking.
Shen Dang chuckled, "No problem, but how about having someone to watch the movie with you? What do you think?"
"I don’t think much of it." The changing light of the projector cast an expressionless face on Qiao Xi, "It’s not appropriate for a single man and woman to be alone in a room. If Boss Shen has nothing else to do, you might as well head back early."
Shen Dang hummed, "I won’t go, I just ordered some takeout which should arrive here soon."
Qiao Xi: "???"
She turned her head, disbelief in her eyes, "Why would you order takeout only after coming to my place?"
Shen Dang watched her intently with his deep and dark peach-blossom eyes, his lashes lowered slightly, "Didn’t I say? I came to see you, and I got hungry, so I decided to treat myself. You can’t expect me to starve, can you?"
Qiao Xi: "..."
That’s just ridiculous!
Coincidentally, the doorbell rang at that moment.
Shen Dang brought in some takeout.
He skillfully set the takeout on the dining table, and looking up at Qiao Xi, he said, "I ordered a fruit salad for you. Come and have some, it won’t make you fat."
Qiao Xi: "..."
Perhaps it was because of the tea she drank, but Qiao Xi actually felt a little hungry.
And she hadn’t eaten much that night.
The word "won’t make you fat" tempted her, so Qiao Xi paused the movie and walked leisurely to the dining table.
Sure enough, there was a salad on the table, accompanied by a cup of fresh milk tea.
"If I gain weight because of this, it’s your fault," Qiao Xi said, looking at Shen Dang with piercing eyes.
Shen Dang laughed softly, "If you want to blame me, could I possibly stop you? Or should I supervise your running?"
He paused, then added, "But to supervise your running, I’d need to stay over at your place. How about I just stay the night?"
Qiao Xi thought he was being wildly unrealistic.
She gave a cool, mocking smile, "Eat and go home."
Shen Dang clicked his tongue and then sighed regretfully.
Qiao Xi pulled out a chair and sat down, taking a small spoon and leisurely eating her fruit salad.
Throughout the meal, neither of them spoke. Shen Dang occasionally glanced at her, and somehow the atmosphere felt very harmonious.
After eating, Shen Dang cleaned up the dining table.
Qiao Xi watched the impeccably dressed man, who had rolled up his sleeves to his elbows during dinner, exposing his lean, pale forearms—his elegance was inherently noble.
Now, standing tall, he resembled a robust cedar, emanating a unique charm that set him apart.
Qiao Xi lowered her eyelids, "It’s getting late, Boss Shen, it’s time you left."
Shen Dang, with one hand casually tucked into his pocket, spoke in a lazy tone, "Are you free tomorrow?"
Qiao Xi didn’t understand why he was asking.
Shen Dang’s gaze was focused and deep, compelling her to involuntarily look back at him.
"If you’re free tomorrow, I’d like to take you somewhere."
"Where?"
Shen Dang softly chuckled, "It wouldn’t be a surprise if I told you now."
Qiao Xi was somewhat disinterested, "I’m probably not free tomorrow, I have an interview in the afternoon."
"Then let’s wait for the next opportunity."
Shen Dang was clearly disappointed but didn’t show any inclination to leave.
Qiao Xi casually lifted her eyelids, "Aren’t you leaving yet?"
Leave? Why would he leave?
Shen Dang turned his gaze, asking curiously, "What movie are you watching?"
Qiao Xi spoke nonchalantly, "Just watching Whatever."
Shen Dang was still in a fairly good mood, "If you haven’t finished your movie, wait for me to watch it with you before I go."
Boss Shen simply wanted to linger a bit longer.
Qiao Xi tilted her head, Boss Shen really was trying to find ways to stay.
"We’re already halfway through the movie, you won’t understand it watching from the middle."
And she didn’t need company to watch a movie.
"Then you could restart the movie from the beginning."
Qiao Xi felt he was being unreasonable and making a fuss over nothing, "No, I don’t want to waste time, hurry up and go back!"
Shen Dang flopped down on the sofa, "I wouldn’t mind if you explained what’s going on in the half-played movie."
Qiao Xi: "..."
Was this man for real?
She laughed out of frustration, "Stop joking around."
Shen Dang spread his hands, the picture of innocence, "When have I joked? I’m serious."
Qiao Xi felt that his acting talent was wasted; he wasn’t a star, she bit her lip slightly in annoyance, "I’m not a commentator."
And to think he expected her to provide commentary.
Shen Dang didn’t seem to care, lounging back on the sofa, "Then I don’t mind watching from the middle onwards."
He had said it, what more could Qiao Xi say?
She was absolutely helpless against his shamelessness, which he showed off often.
The two remained silent, with only the sound of the movie echoing around them. The scenes changed, casting shifting shadows. The ambiance turned misty, pulling them in and out of closeness.
Eventually, the movie reached its climax.
Qiao Xi turned on the light and switched off the projector.
She turned to look at him, "It’s very late, go back home, you must be tired from your trip."
"Then let me have a hug."
Shen Dang’s gaze was intense.
Qiao Xi looked puzzled, "What?"
Why the nonsense talk all of a sudden?
"Hug me, I’ve missed you."
She didn’t agree, and Shen Dang didn’t dare make a move. He insisted stubbornly, "Hug me, and then I’ll go."
Qiao Xi’s eyes were calm, yet ripples stirred within her heart, "...Can I refuse?"
Shen Dang smirked helplessly, "Sure, after all, you’re the boss."
Though that’s what he said, it was clear he was not so easily dismissed.
Boss Shen wouldn’t rest until he achieved his goal, would he?
Qiao Xi pursed her lips awkwardly, taking the initiative, "Fine, I’ll hug you, and then you really must stop and leave."
Shen Dang’s eyes shone with pleasure, "Okay."
Before Qiao Xi could move, Shen Dang pulled her into his arms, slowly tightening his embrace.
Her cheek pressed against his chest, Qiao Xi could hear his heartbeat, "thump, thump, thump," resonating with each beat, as if it were also tapping on her own heart.
Her heart began to react in kind.
Qiao Xi was taken aback, her body not responding.
Shen Dang’s embrace felt warm, seemed to burst with vitality, easily enveloping her.
This embrace somehow provided a sense of security.
