Chapter 110: Boss Shen’s Second Time
Chapter 110: Chapter 110: Boss Shen’s Second Time
Perhaps there is always a premonition when one is about to face danger.
Like now.
But she still asked.
Shen Dang tilted his head, "If you really don’t want to drink, I can’t force you. It’s up to you."
Qiao Xi: "..."
With his noncommittal attitude, Qiao Xi found herself even more undecided.
The trouble with men like him is their mercurial nature, making them frustrating yet irresistible.
Qiao Xi felt like she was damned if she stayed, and damned if she didn’t.
Shen Dang poured himself a glass of wine and brought it to his lips, his gaze, reflected in red, lingering on her face.
As the wine slid down his throat, he lowered his eyelids, "Teacher Qiao can go rest now."
Suddenly deflated, Qiao Xi lifted her chin and asked, "Where’s the wine glass?"
"The cabinet."
Qiao Xi stood up and headed to the kitchen.
Reaching the top shelf, she discovered the transparent tall glasses, but even on tiptoes, she couldn’t grasp one.
She was of 170cm height!
Why on earth would they install such high cabinets?
With one hand bracing against the glass countertop and the other stretching upwards, her efforts were in vain.
She grew frustrated.
Then, a hand reached over her head and effortlessly took a glass from the cupboard.
A low and husky male voice descended upon her, "Couldn’t reach the glass and didn’t think to call me?"
Shen Dang’s position seemed to envelop her entirely in his embrace.
Qiao Xi caught the aroma of fine wine and the familiar scent of ebony incense.
Alluring and seductive.
A confluence of these scents hit her brain, casting her into a daze.
Qiao Xi’s breathing faltered, and her legs weakened.
She tried to turn around, but suddenly her footing shifted and she fell uncontrollably to the side.
Shen Dang caught her by the shoulders and steadied her.
"How can you not stand firm? Are you doing this on purpose?" Shen Dang chuckled, his voice laced with a hint of inebriation.
Qiao Xi’s heartbeat thundered; she pushed his hand away, her eyes flitting away in panic as she heard his laughter.
Qiao Xi felt mocked by Shen Dang.
Slightly irked.
Who’s faking anything?
She turned and glared at Shen Dang, "You scared me."
Her eyes widened, fiercely glaring at him to prove her indignation.
"I only came to help because I saw you couldn’t reach the glass. My fault, huh?" He asked lazily.
With nothing to retort, Qiao Xi humphed coolly and brushed past Shen Dang, heading towards the dining area.
If she was to lose, it wouldn’t be without dignity—she had to hold the upper hand!
Shen Dang trailed behind leisurely, chuckling quietly to himself.
What was he laughing at, anyway?
Qiao Xi surreptitiously felt her chest; her heart was still racing.
Shen Dang poured wine into her glass and pushed it towards her.
"I’ve got about a dozen bottles of wine in the rack."
His voice was casually refined.
Qiao Xi glanced up indifferently, giving him a noncommittal look: "Oh."
Why did he mention it to her?
She wouldn’t touch his wine.
He glanced at her: "Drink it."
Qiao Xi sipped lightly.
Truly it was Boss Shen’s private wine reserve, aromatic and complex, with a rich yet delicate taste that was endlessly memorable.
Qiao Xi took another sip.
Watching her drink, Shen Dang’s eyes glittered with a shallow intoxicating smile, "Tastes good?"
Qiao Xi murmured softly, her eyes gleaming with pleasure, "It’s quite nice."
That ’quite nice’ probably meant it was very good.
Boss Shen nodded in acknowledgment: "If you like it, drink more."
Qiao Xi: "..."
How could she possibly drink more with her tolerance?
Surely Boss Shen wasn’t trying to get her drunk?
After some thought, she decided Boss Shen wasn’t the type to do that.
Having finished a whole glass, Qiao Xi felt it was enough.
But the wine was to her liking.
Irresistibly, she lifted the glass again.
Shen Dang clinked her glass with his.
The dining room fell quiet; with a "clink," it was as if something shattered between them.
Qiao Xi: "???"
Confused.
"What are you doing?"
Qiao Xi’s usually cool gaze was now misty, her voice a notch softer than usual.
It sounded somewhat coquettish to Shen Dang.
Her cheeks were flushed from the wine, as vibrant as the dusk sky upon her face, radiantly stunning.
Beautiful enough to hold his gaze.
Yet her eyes also shone clearly, bewitchingly bright.
Shen Dang felt a flutter in his heart.
He realised that this was what being smitten felt like.
More pronounced than the few times before.
Shen Dang laughed softly.
Qiao Xi stared at him: "What are you laughing at now?"
He had laughed oddly several times tonight.
Shen Dang’s gaze deepened, tinged with mirth, his voice languid: "Just confirming something."
"I don’t know what you’re talking about." Qiao Xi’s laziness didn’t extend to deciphering his cryptic words.
She extended her glass toward him again.
Shen Dang clinked glasses with her once more.
Qiao Xi: "..."
Shen Dang: "..."
He questioned, "Didn’t we just clink our glasses?"
Were they in a loop?
Qiao Xi’s brows knit with irritation: "Who asked you to clink glasses with me?"
Shen Dang tilted his head, his black-as-ink eyes puzzled: "Then what do you mean?"
Qiao Xi rolled her eyes, irritated: "Pour me wine!"
Usually, others poured wine for Boss Shen.
No one dared to ask Boss Shen to pour wine.
So it was no surprise that Shen Dang failed to grasp Qiao Xi’s intention right away.
"Ah..." Shen Dang laughed softly, finding it amusing that he had misunderstood her.
Suddenly, he felt like Teacher Qiao was very much alive before him.
As if she had shed that layer of icy exterior.
His demeanor softened into a gentle concern: "Can you still drink?"
Qiao Xi lifted a finger: "Another glass."
Shen Dang raised an eyebrow and poured her wine: "I’ll start you with half a glass."
He didn’t mention that this red wine was higher in alcohol content than most.
Could Teacher Qiao handle it?
Whether she could or not...
Qiao Xi proved it with action.
She really thought the wine was excellent.
After all, it was a parting drink.
She might as well indulge in honor of her unfortunate marriage.
A few extra glasses wouldn’t hurt.
But one leads to two, and two turns to three.
Once broken, some things can never be undone.
Qiao Xi raised her glass again.
Shen Dang willingly poured more wine for her.
His gaze was tranquil as he watched Qiao Xi drink, her elegant neck exposed, tempting even there.
He had the urge to bite it.
She finished the half glass in one gulp.
Shen Dang: "..."
That was some drinking!
Qiao Xi’s delicate fingers held the glass as a drop of red wine slid down her lip, adorning her scarlet mouth with a touch of illicit allure.
Shen Dang pursed his lips, his smile rebellious, his peach-blossom eyes brooding with intensity, as emotions churned beneath.
Wild bees and butterflies.
Shen Dang watched Qiao Xi set down her glass. She braced her hands on the table, trying to stand, then swayed and plopped back into the chair.
Shen Dang: "..."
