My Eldritch Horror Wife Followed Me To Another World -
Chapter 55: Long Meeting
Chapter 55: Long Meeting
Muhso’s grandiose speech about the past and the age of discovery had made everyone curious about the package. So, when he finally opened it to reveal its contents, they leaned forward to try and get a better look at what hid beneath the leaf.
Sosora had a good angle, and she was stunned when she saw it. She was the only one in the room, other than Muhso, of course, who immediately knew what it was.
It was a sausage.
Others weren’t sure, but they could smell it. The leaf wrapped around it had isolated it, locking up a delectable aroma that now filled the meeting hall. It was even slightly warm still.
Sosora could imagine it.
Muhso hadn’t been the last to arrive at the meeting because he wanted to make an impression. It was because he had been waiting for the sausage.
The representatives from the Jakka and Vedel tribes looked intently at the sausage. Their noses were sensitive. It smelled like meat, but more delicious. They could faintly smell the scent of herbs and similar things that they sometimes added when cooking. They were curious.
"What is it?" Ugrid didn’t beat around the bush and asked directly. She could faintly smell it. She could barely see it. She could not tell what it was.
"It is a gift from the Outsider, a blessing bestowed upon us." Muhso grabbed a knife as if he had been expecting everyone’s interest, and cut the sausage into ten tiny slices. He was tempted to make eleven and take one for himself, but then they would be too small for the others to get a proper taste.
He sent one piece of the sausage to each representative. The two from the Uaya tribe shared. Atarak had too much pride to admit that he wanted something from the Ursa tribe that he scorned, so Kobo got the entire piece. Basla took the Lowat tribe’s piece for himself, despite the curiosity that had his elders’ mouths watering.
Ugrid held the meat-like thing with blatant skepticism before popping it in her mouth.
The Ursa weren’t known for using fire or anything really when preparing their food. But it looked and smelled like it was cooked. If Ugrid was honest, it smelled pretty good once she got a better whiff of it.
And once she tasted it, she could confirm that it was indeed tasty. It was a new experience. It would have been better if she could have had the entire sausage, but she understood why Muhso had to share the one he had. It was probably valuable.
In reality, it was because the rest of his tribe was not willing to part with the sausages they had labored to make without the Outsider’s and Sosora’s help.
They knew how to use fire, but they had to make do without proper pans and pots. Cleaning the innards was also a pain without Sosora’s tools. Still, after rigorous trial and error, with many experiments in terms of ingredients, they had finally made a sausage they could be proud of.
It was almost enough for Kai to eat more than three of them before looking toward the center of the forest with longing in his eyes.
Unfortunately, the tribe had agreed to respect the other tribes’ decision not to visit the Outsider for a little while. They only got Kai to agree by saying that they wanted to make the Outsider proud with their work, and they needed him as the greatest sausage connoisseur in their tribe.
Muhso nervously studied the expressions of the others.
Most people seemed to enjoy it. Basla tried to pretend not to like it, but he forgot not to lick his fingers and lips after devouring the sausage piece.
The Uaya tribe representatives weren’t the biggest fans. The Orovir tribe couldn’t tell whether she liked it or not. She could have liked it had the seasoning been a little different and more to her taste.
Elder Kobo was similar in that regard.
It was hard to read Layas’ expression, but Muhso felt like the Seg was liking it. The Jakka and Vedel tribes liked it.
Muhso turned to Monkey, who was looking at him with a smile. It sent shivers down Muhso’s spine. He couldn’t help but feel that he had made a mistake.
He had, but not in the way he thought.
He had introduced sausage to someone with the skills to steal it whenever he wanted.
"I can tell that most of you liked it, right?" Muhso said. He didn’t get much of a response saying the opposite other than a few grumbling words from Basla about how it could be better.
They ignored that. Everyone understood why Muhso considered the sausage a gift. But they weren’t sure about calling it a blessing.
"Naturally, the gift wasn’t that specific sausage. That’s what they are called, by the way. An incredible word for an incredible meal.
"The Outsider’s gift was the knowledge and personal teachings on how to make them. The ingredients are simple. Meat and seasonings. Anyone can make them. The seasonings can be adjusted for preference. In just the past week, my tribe has made several hundred sausages already."
The others didn’t think much of Muhso’s words until he reached the number. Their jaws dropped, and their eyes widened.
The only one with a different reaction was Monkey. He knew what he was doing after this.
The sausage wasn’t as valuable as they had thought. Then again, they had probably only made that much because the Ursa tribe members were big and ate a lot.
"Hmph." Basla snorted, regaining his composure.
"Teaching you how to cook one meal was enough for the Outsider to earn your loyalty?" He scoffed.
Muhso turned to him with a sharp look.
"No. Caring for our young one when he was in danger, and treating him with kindness and generosity when he had all the reason not to, that’s what gave him our loyalty." Muhso’s words were a clear jab.
