Chapter 94: Love Affair

It’s been a week since the rumours about the duke and Asher’s affair have stopped.

And they became real, in the servants’ eyes.

Now it wasn’t talked as much as before since now everyone believed they were lovers. A lot of young maids were really excited about this, especially the kitchen maids for whatever the reason.

Maybe because ones from there got to see that life worthy scene and confirm the rumour was true.

However, not everyone was happy with this ’confirmation’.

"Stop whimpering Nala! Only you think they don’t look good together. We all think the duke and sir Asher look fine."

The maids didn’t like Nala, the maid in their group who always meddled in their talk by force, always saying something negative about the duke or Miss Anne or now, ’sir’ Asher.

Why was she so annoying? The maids often argued with her and it eventually made her get cornered away as no one wanted to hear her say anything bad about the duke or their sir Asher.

"How are they looking good together? The duke should marry a pretty noble young lady. Not a man coming from a low life like that."

"Heh! Do you even know if he is low life or not? And, aren’t you trying to insult ourselves altogether? Right, we are low life people but we also deserve a good man. It’s his luck that he and the duke got close. So stop whining. Alas, if the duke himself isn’t having a problem, why is it a problem to you?"

"You guys don’t understand. All of you are supporting the wrong person!"

"Heh! Would you like to explain who is that right person for our duke? You? "

"What are you talking about?! The duke deserves a nobel lady that has the potential. That’s what I am trying to say."

"Okay. If you think so, keep your opinions to yourself. We think this is just fine. Even if Asher is a low life like us, we will support him."

The maids were getting frustrated with her for always bothering them when they were enjoying the gossip about the duke’s and sir Asher’s love affair. They only wanted to hear positive things, not negative things that pull down their mood. Nala always had something negative to upset them. Why was she so determined that the duke deserved a noble lady?

Annoying...

He might deserve a young lady...but, he could have Asher too. It was the duke’s choice and he chose this man. So, for them, there was not seem to be any problem. It’s only fair the duke choose the person he wants.

For these young maids, the duke was like the emperor in their little empire.

Actually, these young maids who entered the mansion later, didn’t understand why the old maids and servants warned them so much about the duke. Always hearing them talking about how scary and evil the duke was, they have grown scared of him but nothing really happened in front of their eyes yet. So...they still didn’t understand why the old maids hated the duke. But, they were always alerted.

As for the old maids and servants there who now were just a few, it was actually not just because of the duke, but Anne. Around ten servants witnessed their miss Anne’s cruelty at a very young age and were given money by the duke to keep their mouths shut. This was the reason it all started.

In their minds, as evil as that little girl, the duke was still taking her side. He also must be blood thirsty just like that little girl. It was his sister after all.

Those same old servants knew the rumour about the duke killing his father wasn’t true so it wasn’t really a problem to them. The only one that left them shook was this little monster who looked innocent from outside...

She was the devil.

Everyone was scared of her and hesitated to serve her in fear of getting killed as she was gifted spiritual powers at one point in her life which she used to absolutely torture and lead a man to death.

But now, as some of those old servants had died due to age and some retired, only a few handful of those old servants were left working in the mansion yet. They don’t hang out with the young servants or maids so they don’t really interact and now, all the maids in charge are the new generation. Other than Mary who doesn’t think any bad of the duke as she basically raised the duke.

Just like how the duke protects Anne, She will protect the duke till her life lasts.

No matter what.

Even though the duke always looked cold and distant, he never had done anything bad to the maids or servants. Actually, they get paid on time, they can get their leaves when necessary and they are really comfortable working there. Also, the maids in the Griffin mansion are more talked about than any other mansion maids because people believe they are being abused and having a hard time, living in a hell.

But that was not the case... In reality, they were having the best lives. They can often get to enjoy good food from the mansion’s kitchen as the duke had let Mary handle this as she wanted. If there were a lot of leftovers, Mary would let them enjoy the expensive good food.

The duke was never close but was never cruel to them. So, they had nothing to complain about. Everyone just existed around each other.

While the maids were doing good and they had quite a good impression about the duke, the only problem was that the duke looked a little scary along with those stories they had heard of him.

But now...they couldn’t help but notice the duke sometimes would be having a relaxed face, seemingly smiling.

He must be so in love with sir Asher...

The maids are always excited to see the duke and Asher together as they know they are lovers.

How come they didn’t realise they were lovers before?

There were so many signs!

Asher was specially prefered by their miss Anne.

The duke also paid special attention to him and often called him to his office when he never called another servant to his office other than Bill.

And, he must have stayed nights with the duke when he became a wolf every month.

He must know the duke’s all secrets and had accepted him without getting scared of him.
