My Dear Duke(BL) -
Chapter 115: Asher’s Father
Chapter 115: Asher’s Father
"Thank you..."
The duke said, his voice shaky, making Asher smile as he felt the duke understood what he said.
"But you know what Asher?"
The duke asked again, making Asher pay close attention to what he was going to say again.
"Times like this make me feel you are very good at convincing me about things. You’re good at comforting too. But...I guess you don’t really know anyone else to tell your problems. If you have any...you can tell me. I can...at least listen."
Asher chuckled when he saw the duke’s questionable expression as the last part was said, maybe recalling when his ’don’t cry’ that was supposed to be a comfort came out as a threat. Luckily, Asher understood he was trying to comfort him at that time.
"Will you listen to me then?"
"Yeah..."
"Even if it’s very very ugly?"
"Yeah. Did I have a beautiful past? You listened to me, right? I can do it too."
The duke said, excited seeing Asher was opening himself up to him.
"Well...this is not about me. My father..."
Asher said, leaning on the duke, relieved for some reason.
"I am an omega. So... of course I was birthed by a male too who was an omega. That’s the person I called father. As for the other male involved...If I ever see him, I will shred him into pieces for what he made my father go through. A Greedy, disgusting scum bag. I want to kill him!"
Asher, surprised with himself when he realised what he just said, paused and quickly raised his body to look at the duke who was staring at him with no expression.
"Asher...the way you tal-"
"No! Please! I am sorry. I suddenly...I didn’t know what got into me."
Asher, troubled, tried explaining but the duke calmed him down.
"Asher, you are just angry. It’s okay because you are just talking with me. What I wanted to say was...the way you talk...the way you blame and have such intentions...reminds me of someone. A person that wanted revenge for a loved one...Have you...ever thought about revenge, for you father?"
The duke asked, leaving Asher stunned. So the duke didn’t mind his language. And...about what he said...
Has he ever thought about revenge?
Actually, no.
He hadn’t even seen his father nor did that scumbag.
While his mother wished they could take revenge, his uncle always reminded him karma would do the work for you.
He hated that man who abused his father and made his life hell.
Eveytime Asher thought he had that other man’s blood running through his body, he felt disgusting and guilty.
His father...chose to protect him which made Asher the most sad.
If Asher had stayed there...maybe his life wouldn’t be this good.
His father saved him.
But his birth must have affected his father in some way.
In the end, somehow, he ended up burdening his father.
Maybe if his father wasn’t pregnant with him, he might have gotten a chance to escape.
According to what his mother said, his father had refused to come with her because he wanted to give birth to the baby as he promised.
If he were to run away with Asher in his belly, then the count would definitely have come after them or... would have bothered his mother and uncle since it was not just one loss but two.
So basically, everything went wrong because of Asher.
As he was thankful for his father’s bravery to send him away despite knowing he would be in great trouble, Asher was really guilty.
But...somewhat...what the duke said next made sense too.
"Asher, you don’t blame yourself for whatever happened, right?"
Felix could kind of guess from Asher’s sour expression he was thinking deeply about something upsetting. And, he randomly thought of this.
When Felix asked, Asher leaned on his shoulder again where he started explaining what his mother said at her deathbed and how things had gone in his life. Everything...
When it ended, Asher’s thinking process was crystal clear to Felix.
"Asher...Do you love your father?"
"Yeah. Even though I have never met him before...I respect him. And, I dearly love him."
"From the way he did his best to save you, you know he also loved you, right?"
"Mmm...I believe so. But I wouldn’t be surprised even if he hated me."
"If he had hated you, he wouldn’t have put himself in risk to have you sent away. Don’t blame yourself. I am sure your father wouldn’t want that. He definitely wanted you to live a comfortable life in a safe place. He must be proud of the risk he took to save you like this. Be thankful, not guilty."
The duke said, making Asher teary eyed as he thought it through. He wanted to believe it too. But he never knew. Maybe...the duke was right. His father did all that to protect him out of love and care.
He should be thankful, not guilty.
He should live his life well and prove his father’s risk gave him the chance.
"Duke...You are good at comforting too. Thank you."
Asher said, wiping away his tears.
"Do you not want to see him?"
The duke hesitantly asked next, to which Asher casually answered as he was somewhat confident about his assumption.
"I want to see him. But I don’t think it will be possible. Neither my mother nor my uncle knew what happened to him after we escaped. Maybe, he was tortured and forced to give birth to a child again...Maybe...he is not alive anymore. I..think he’s already dead. I am kind of sure about it."
Asher said.
"You sure he...is dead?"
"Mm... I vividly remember a dream I saw where my mother and uncle said goodbye to me. There, they had another man with them who they hugged and held close. And, he looked a lot similar to me. I think...that’s my father I never got to see. It’s unbelievable but...it was very convincing. And you know what was even crazier? It was right on the day I saved Miss Anne. She slept in my bed that day while I slept on the floor. I had that dream that day if I remember correctly."
Asher said, now not crying but smiling again.
"Did he look happy?"
"Yeah."
Asher said while smiling as recalled that man’s face who he believed to be his father.
He looked really happy.
And, so did his mother and uncle.
He hoped they were actually happy like that somewhere good...
