My Curse? A Different Yandere in Every Reincarnation -
Chapter 93: Awakening after centuries
Chapter 93: Awakening after centuries
It’s been a century since I last slept as a vampire. Sleeping through all that time was relatively easy I just closed my eyes and slept, and the time passed. After a century, I woke up, surprisingly aware of exactly how much time had elapsed.
How this happened, and with my feelings somewhat dulled, I ended up just drinking a few bottles of blood and went back to sleep. I slept for at least another 4 centuries.
No one disturbed me during that time. Amazingly, sleeping so much helped more than I expected I was able to adjust and organize all my memories while I slept.
I also managed to discover a way to break Sayuri’s curse. In fact, it was so obvious, I’m not sure why I didn’t think of it before.
Sayuri’s curse works in a 3-phase cycle: a yandere appears, the yandere kills me, I get sent to another world, and it all starts over again. A curse with some pretty simple logic.
Thanks to this world, I realize that this curse is extremely powerful. But knowing that breaking it is almost impossible, and knowing that it’s based on a cycle where I always die, all I have to do is break the cycle.
Of course, breaking the cycle of this curse may seem impossible, but there is a method. The easiest part of removing this curse is the "dying" part. If I become immortal, the curse can no longer continue.
Even this powerful curse won’t be able to go on. If I never die again, the cycle will be broken, and curses based on cycles tend to disperse when the cycle is broken. It means that if I become truly immortal, this curse will end.
I had this idea thanks to this vampire life. Vampires are "immortal" they don’t age, they regenerate, and they are strong, although they can still be killed, so their immortality isn’t absolute.
But if I become truly immortal, I can finally be free. After so long, I wake up, all the blood I had collected is gone, and I’m thirsty, but not excessively so.
It’s been so long that my body is a bit rusty. I push open the coffin lid and lean up, looking around the room. I see some rats and spiders, and there are a lot of cobwebs on the walls.
My bed is also weak from the extremely long time, so I would have had to wake up and get out of here one way or another. A few more years and the rats would have damaged the coffin and tried to eat me.
I walk normally, as if I just woke up from a night’s sleep. It’s not that difficult to walk, even after so much inactivity. I check my body before I looked about 14 years old, and now I appear to be 18 or 19.
I walk to the passage that leads to the exit and try to open it, but the mechanism is a bit broken, so I have to use magic to push the entrance open. The entrance crumbles as I walk through the small, time-damaged corridor.
I don’t even notice how cold I am with the situation. This vampiric personality aspect is extremely powerful.
I open the secret door in the wall, facing a corridor in the mansion, and the first thing I see is a boy, looking about 13 years old, with black hair and light green eyes.
"Who’s the brat?"
"U-Um, miss, the mansion was empty, so I thought I could live here," the boy says, his voice trembling with fear as he looks into my eyes.
"...Leave." I don’t want to live with anyone. This is my house, and I have every right to kick him out. I won’t kill him, though, as that would probably attract a pesky hunter.
"M-Miss, I have nowhere else to go... there are many vampires in the nearby forest..."
’...’ Vampires have the characteristic of red eyes, and I end up avoiding that. Obviously, the reason is clearly my curse. It can’t be anything else. That’s why the boy doesn’t recognize me as a vampire, since my only noticeable vampiric trait is my pale skin.
"Not my problem. Leave." I don’t care about his problems. I have my own to deal with I need to remove my curse. I don’t have time to worry about a yandere.
"M-Miss! Please let me stay! I have no family, my village was attacked by vampires, and I’m all alone," he says, almost crying, tears visible in his eyes.
"Boy, leave, or your biggest problem won’t be the vampires out there." Probably the ones who killed his family were either vampire servants or low-level vampires, since the higher-class ones avoid this kind of trouble.
The boy throws himself at my feet.
"P-Please! I’ll do anything, I’ll clean, fix things, and I can cook a little!" He pleads, crying.
I look around the house it’s full of dust, spider webs, and some cracks in various places.
’Well...he’s just a weak child...I can always kill him when he grows enough to be a threat...’ I don’t want to organize everything myself, and I don’t have any magic that helps with that.
"...Okay, you can stay, but you’ll have to do everything. It was the job of my maids...but they were killed by a vampire, and my house became a mess." It’s not a lie, although the vampire in this case is me.
"R-Really?" I ignore the stupid question and start walking towards the library, knowing I have several magic books there that haven’t been looted.
The reason other vampires stay only around, but don’t enter the mansion, is that they know I’m here. Even if they can’t see me, my "scent" and "mark" are here. As long as that doesn’t go away, they’ll avoid the area. Of course, it doesn’t work against more powerful vampires who are above me, but it’s enough to keep foolish ones who dare try to rob me away. And since they avoid coming here, they just stay in the surrounding area, forming a natural security barrier.
Of course, from the messed-up state of some things, I deduce that a hunter has already invaded this place, but was probably having so many problems that he left quickly.
I’m glad he didn’t set fire to my mansion. It wouldn’t have affected me, but it would have destroyed my home, and it would be bad to have to get a new one after.
"A-And I’m Yuki. What’s your name, miss?" The boy who’s following me asks, but I ignore him.
"...I’ll call you ’mistress’ then, because you’re beautiful and live in a mansion, so you must be a noblewoman," he says, trying to get my attention, but I ignore him. I’m too busy thinking about how to become immortal.
"...Are you mad at me?" He doesn’t stop talking, and it’s a bit annoying. I just want silence so I can think about what to do.
"..."
"I-I’ll be quiet then..." He falls silent and follows me quietly. I take a brief look out the window.
’Vampires...why are there so many?’ I notice that around the mansion, there are hundreds or even thousands of them, which is highly unusual. Most noble vampires have between 20 and 40 servants.
This shows how limited in numbers the vampire race is. The number of vampires out there is practically a small army.
’Have the vampires grown in number?’
"Boy...how’s the situation with the vampires outside?" I’ve been asleep for so many centuries that it seems a lot has changed in the world, even too much.
"Miss...I mean, mistress, you don’t know?"
’It’s not good to reveal that I’m a vampire...’
"No, I never leave the mansion. It’s safe here vampires don’t have the courage to enter the mansion or come within a 1km radius of the forest."
"Oh, so that’s why they stopped chasing me all of a sudden!" He says, astonished.
"Answer the question."
"A-Ah, okay, well, there are a lot of vampires."
"..."
"What else?"
"...T-There are a lot of vampires..."
’What a useless answer...I guess I shouldn’t expect much from a child.’ I can ask a random vampire directly when night falls. I may be immune to the sun, but it still bothers my skin.
"...M-Mistress, are you mad? I’m sorry, I don’t know much...m-my mom and dad didn’t talk much about vampires, they just said they were evil beings."
’It’s not entirely a lie, but it’s not entirely true either.’ Vampires generally don’t like to be around others. They avoid humans because they don’t need food.
Only the greedy ones, the former humans, or those who want to form servants are the ones who attack humans. The rest isolate themselves and avoid getting too involved.
"Boy, how are you going to eat? I won’t provide you with food. You’ll have to do that yourself."
There’s no food in this mansion, and I’m not going to bother getting food for him.
"W-Well, I don’t know...t-there’s really nothing?"
"If you want, you can eat the rats and insects you find. Other than that, you’ll have to look for food outside the mansion. As long as you don’t go too far, the vampires won’t attack you, but don’t go out at night."
It’s impossible for there to be a noble vampire among those outside, so most of them will hide at night.
"And we need to establish some rules: don’t enter closed spaces, never enter my room no matter what sound you hear, don’t try to get food from the kitchen, pantry, or storage."
"If you break any of the rules, I’ll throw you out into the forest."
I don’t care about this boy.
"I’ll be in the library. Start cleaning my mansion."
I say as I reach the library door and lock it, leaving him outside.
