Chapter 84: Demon Queen

"Dear Alyssa, could you please go downstairs to the pantry and get the vegetables?" My mother speaks to me.

"Okay, mom, I’m on it." I get up from the table and rush downstairs to where the vegetables are.

"Mom, which vegetables do I need to get?" I ask, looking at the various vegetables in the crate. There are so many, and since I’m only 13, it’s hard for me to carry them all, and I don’t have the strength to carry the whole crate.

"Two tomatoes and a carrot," she yells from upstairs. I grab the produce and start to bring them up.

"Hey, daughter, what’s for dinner tonight?" My dad enters through the door, seeing me come out of the downstairs area, which is like a small basement used as a pantry.

"Daddy! It’s going to be a stew!" I say excitedly to him. He gives me a kind smile as he sets down the ax by the door, and I see the firewood he brought from the nearby forest.

"That’s great, honey. Now go call your brother, he’s outside playing. I think he ran off to the forest, but he’s not far, and after that, you two are to go straight to the bath, understand, young lady?"

"Okay, dad, I know, I’m very mature!" I try to sound older than I am.

"Haha, of course, dear. I wish your brother was as mature as you. Now go get him before it takes too long, I’ll take the veggies to your mom." I hand him the vegetables and run off to find my brother.

’He must be in that hole he calls his "secret hero base".’ I run through the village and enter the forest, walking for a few minutes until I find a small hole in the ground.

"Ow! Who dares to attack a hero’s base!" I throw a small rock into the hole, hitting him on the head.

"I dare to attack! And if you don’t get out of that hole, a very angry mom and dad might show up!" He quickly jumps out of the hole, holding some fruits in his hands.

"D-Don’t tell mom!"

"Again with the secret eating," I sigh. I found him hiding and eating things again. He doesn’t need to involve this hole in everything he does.

"Sis, don’t be a killjoy! This is my hero base, so of course I have to do everything in it," he replies, throwing the fruit pit on the ground.

"Okay, let’s just go, the food is ready and we need to take a bath." He starts running hurriedly through the forest.

’A hero... It would be cool to be one, but it seems strange...’ I don’t understand why my brother wants to be a hero so badly. What’s the appeal of going around killing monsters and demons, leaving your family behind?

Okay, having incredible powers and helping others seems great, but for that, you’d have to abandon your family and go after the Demon Queen, who honestly doesn’t seem to be doing anything wrong from what I’ve heard.

The last time she was seen among humans, from what I’ve heard, she was actually quite "friendly" with people, and that’s it. She wasn’t killing or stealing anything.

So I don’t understand why we shouldn’t just leave her alone. If it’s just because she’s beautiful, then people are being very nonsensical. Okay, so apparently she’s so beautiful that any man can fall in love with her, but that’s no reason to go chasing after her.

If she’s staying in her place, why should we go looking for trouble? Wouldn’t it be better for the hero to take care of the criminals and the corrupt? I really don’t understand the adults.

"Huh? What’s that bright thing in the sky? It’s so shiny." Something is shining brightly in the sky with a pinkish color. Instead of coming out of the forest and going home, I hide behind a tree and observe with curiosity.

My brother stops running and looks back, seeing me hiding.

"Sis, what are you doing? Come on..."

I look at my brother calling me, but in an instant, something is fired from the thing in the sky.

"B-Brother?" He’s gone, everything in a large area has disappeared trees, houses, even the old, very hard statue. Desperate, I try to run home.

But all I see is a bright light as I run, and I also hear screams and explosions. I soon enter an area covered in blood, seeing many dead people, some familiar, others I don’t know. Afraid and scared, I run home to find mom and dad, but I end up tripping and falling to the ground, getting covered in blood, and I lie there for a while after twisting my ankle.

But I soon get up and start running again. I may not know it, but my fall saved my life from being cut down by a major blow of fate. Unaware of this luck, I continue running.

I soon reach my house, but no one is there, and things are scattered on the floor, indicating they had rushed out. So I run out of the house, knowing that in an emergency, everyone gathers at the town square.

I quickly reach the square, which is not too far from my house, and what I see is a pile of the dead. Everyone has gathered here, which made it easier for the attacker to massacre them.

"..." I trip and fall on someone’s arm. From here, amid the blood, I see my parents. They must have come to the square, probably looking for me and my brother, who would normally come here.

My tears fall. I’ve lost everything in a single day, and I couldn’t even say goodbye. I just lie on the ground, silently crying, my tears mixing with the blood, while I cry soundlessly.

This pile of corpses has become the cover that keeps me hidden. The being I see is simply divine, the most beautiful I’ve ever seen in my life.

The beauty of this being is so great, and their aura so unforgettable, that they are etched into my memories and my heart.

"..." The being quickly disappears, flying into the sky and towards another neighboring village, probably looking for more victims. I get up, blood dripping from my body as I visualize that being in my mind.

The Demon Queen, a woman so beautiful that no human could ever match. Beautiful black wings, a magnificent pair of horns, a thin and slightly long tail with a heart-shaped tip. And a tattoo on her abdomen that stands out on her pale skin, making her long black hair stand out even more, along with a cold gaze that accentuates her beautiful black eyes.

This description matches exactly what I’ve heard the adults talking about, showing that the being can only be the Demon Queen, whom I had judged to be neutral, but who has now attacked a village for no reason.

"...Beautiful..." She is so beautiful that the entire scene is overshadowed. So beautiful that she captivates my heart, replacing all my sadness with love. I want that being for myself.

I want to take everything from her her kingdom, her subjects, her freedom just as she took my home from me, took my family from me, and occupied my heart.

"..." I start walking amidst the pile of bodies, my gait unsteady. I don’t know where I’m going, I just let my body guide me as I remember a children’s tale a bard once sang in the village.

A young maiden captured by a knight and forced to live in a tower. The maiden wanted to be free and see the world, but the knight wouldn’t let her.

The knight fell in love with her and wanted to keep her, so he kept her locked up against her will while caring for her with everything he had.

In the end, the knight decided he should isolate himself with the maiden, and so he did, living hidden with her forever in some place. Of course, the story has another segment that shows a different perspective.

The knight was a hero, and the maiden a cruel monster who killed many for fun. The hero should have killed the evil "maiden", but when he went to fulfill his mission, he fell in love with her.

Her beauty captivated his heart, the same beauty that was the undoing of many stole the hero’s heart, and he had to make a choice, and he chose love.

Thus, he avoided killing the evil maiden and obtained her as a possession instead of killing her as was his duty.

I feel like the hero in this story. That evil being has taken everything from me... and worse, they’ve stolen not only my family, but my heart as well.

"...A cross..." I see a corpse, it seems to have been killed by a monster. Near the body, there is a cross, and I pick it up, and it immediately turns into a sword.

I don’t know why, but something just guided me to this cross, like a sweet prophetic whisper. I can make that beautiful being mine and take everything from them.

I just need to wield this sword on my journey, and that being who took everything from me can finally fall into my hands. And just as they took everything from me, I will take everything from them until, in the end, only I and they remain, and I will make them stay with me.

I don’t know why, but I’m not sad. I was sad, seeing everyone dead and losing everything filled me with sadness, but seeing that beautiful being has swept away all my emotions, leaving behind a single emotion desire.
