My Curse? A Different Yandere in Every Reincarnation -
Chapter 36: Dark secrets
Chapter 36: Dark secrets
Arriving at the base, Flora will take care of handling the money properly and depositing it into the fake bank account we have. I’m not sure exactly how she does it, but the fake bank account should already have part of the money in it.
I let her take care of that and I head over to what would be the equivalent of a search room.
I enter the room and lock the door. Inside the room, there’s nothing but a table with a computer. This computer is completely off the grid and untraceable, allowing me to navigate the internet without leaving any tracks.
I sit down at the chair next to the table and turn on the computer. I quickly open the secret tab on the internet, diving into the deep and dark waters of the web.
I start searching for information about magical girls. There must be some records about Flora, since she is a magical girl, and they tend to have a lot of documentation and accounts.
"To start with, there are no current newspapers, blogs, or forums about a magical girl named Flora, so she must be considerably old," I deduce based on my current memories, as I’ve never seen any news about a magical girl named Flora.
The most recent trio of magical girls didn’t have Flora as a participant, so she must be from much earlier, perhaps three or five generations back.
I start searching, going through the current team, then the previous one... and the one before that... and the one before that... and so on, continuing the search.
"What the hell?" I get more easily stressed in this world, which is noticeable to me. But in more than 23 generations of magical girls, there is no "Flora" meaning that 23 generations ago, there was no Flora.
Each generation of magical girls lasts 10 to 16 years, and then they are replaced by the next. The previous ones retire and live normal human lives, never transforming again.
And that’s what’s strange, because in around 230 to 368 years, there is no magical girl named Flora, so she must be even older.
’Her body was preserved by the crystals... so it’s impossible to know her exact age... but even so, that’s too much time...’ I decide to search for the Mausoleum where Flora’s body was found.
After all, I think it’s easier to get information about a building than a person, because buildings require local records and such.
I start searching for photos of the city, either from events or places near the Mausoleum. In the present day, the Mausoleum is in a remote area without guards, but the security inside the Mausoleum consists of traps and resistant structures.
Magical girls like Azuli wouldn’t be able to bend the metal bars of that place, showing the colossal resistance of the Mausoleum.
"I found it... but according to the records, this photo is from about 489 years ago..." I murmur, seeing the photo of the Mausoleum where I found Flora’s body.
The photo also has a series of records about the location, apparently made by magical girls from some previous generation.
I start searching for more information about the oldest magical girls that have any records.
"Generation 43" I find something that might be what I’m looking for. Generation 43 was from 430 to 688 years ago, which matches the age of the Mausoleum.
I’m calculating the generations by increasing the number by 1 each time, as it makes it easier to calculate the correct years.
"...An informant can sell me the information... but the cost is quite high..." The cost the informant, who claims to have information about this, is asking for is 2% of my current budget.
’Combining with the price of the other things, I’ll only be left with 3% of the money stolen from the bank... but it’s worth it.’ I pay the informant, who has good reviews and an approval seal from the platform, and he arrives shortly.
"Okay... the information is from 44 generations ago," I start reading the records.
"The most tragic incident in history, a missing magical girl and 3 gravely injured ones. The 3 found lived only 3 to 5 days and said nonsensical things, showing severe signs of paranoia," I read what is written.
"Their injuries ranged from cuts, burns, bullet holes, poisons, drugs, explosions, lacerations, and perforations." It seems to have been extremely serious, which explains why they died.
I start searching more about the girls rather than the way they died.
"Yulia, a magical girl with crystal powers, Iylierta, a magical girl with telekinetic powers, and Lucia, a magical girl with the power to manipulate inorganic matter."
’Crystal...’ The remaining information is not as good, just describing that they had extreme paranoia about something related to the Mausoleum created by Lucia.
Apparently, Lucia created that Mausoleum when the magical girls were fighting a powerful "enemy."
The Mausoleum was locked, and everything around it was demolished and cordoned off. The authorities don’t know what’s inside, and the government has completely restricted access to the site since magical girls died to create that place.
"Hmm... Magical girl teams are normally formed by only 3 girls... but precisely because I’m the fourth magical girl, I was the villain..."
Almost 100% of the teams I’ve seen were only 3.
"But this team from 44 generations ago also had an extra one..." It seems like it’s fate that the fourth magical girl is the evil one.
’Is this the Generation of Flora? There are no images, names, or statements about the fourth girl, but the fact that two abilities align with how I found Flora is suspicious.
After all, the Mausoleum was built by this girl named Lucia, who manipulated inorganic matter, which explains the resistance of the place, and this Yulia had crystal magic, which fits with the coffin I found Flora’s body in.
I bite my finger and try to think.
"But that doesn’t explain much. If Flora is from this team, why does she have more awareness than the other dead ones? And what is her magic? Was she really detained by other magical girls for being too problematic?"
I spend the next few hours researching magical girls, their generations, and powers, but in the end, "Flora" simply doesn’t exist, as if she’s been erased from history.
"Why does Flora just not exist? There should be more information a magical girl can’t just disappear like that."
’If I knew her magic, it would be easier...’ I decide to stop researching this, as there’s nothing more useful. I send a final message to the informant, saying I’ll send the last information as soon as he finds it in his archives.
I turn off the computer and stand up from the chair. As soon as I unlock the door to leave, I see Flora standing in front of the door.
"Mistress, everything is ready."
"O-Okay... please avoid standing in front of doors silently..."
"Of course, mistress, I’ll avoid that from now on."
’How did she get here without making any noise?’ Each thing leads me to believe that Flora is different from everything I thought, and it disturbs me. If my crazy Yandere wasn’t enough, now I have this suspicious undead who can disobey me.
"Flora, can we talk a little?" I say to Flora as I exit the room.
"Of course, mistress," she agrees enthusiastically as we go to the kitchen, which is small since I’m the only one who eats.
I sit down in a chair, and Flora sits in another. I prepare to test Flora’s reactions.
"Flora... I’m dying," I say that I’m dying.
"That’s a lie," she denies without believing it.
"I hate you," I say that I hate her with a disdainful expression.
"That’s also a lie," she denies it again without believing it.
"..." Of course, I never expected much reaction from these statements.
"So, I love you," I say that I love her to see how she reacts.
"...Well... it’s a lie," she says it’s a lie, but she did react.
"...Flora, could you tell me the best plan to quickly get money? It doesn’t matter if it causes deaths, we really need the money," I say as I toss some old projects onto the table.
She gets excited and starts citing various plans, all of which involve so many deaths that it’s simply ridiculous.
’Wait...’
"Flora, tell me something, what is 1+1?" I ask something completely out of context, given our conversation.
"It’s 2, why?"
"Flora, what is 2+2?" I think I’m about to discover something I didn’t want to.
"...? It’s... 4?" She hesitates in her answer due to my seriousness.
"Flora, 1+1 is equal to 4. Now tell me, what is 1+1?" She cannot get it right the dead simply take anything as an order, and the moment I said that 1+1 is 4, she should accept it as an absolute truth.
"4? Mistress, is this some kind of joke? 1+1 is 2."
"...Flora, how could we have robbed the bank more efficiently?"
"Well, we could have set up explosives in more strategic and efficient locations, and not cared about the workers."
"Flora, why did you think of that?"
"Well... because you asked?"
"Wrong, Flora, why did you correct me?"
"...!!!" She seems to realize something.
What I’ve just noticed is that Flora’s body is under my control... but I don’t have any control over her brain. In other words, Flora’s brain is the real problem here.
That’s why she can think, has free will, and can disobey me, because her brain is alive.
Somehow, her body is truly dead, but her brain has survived for over 440 years. My ability allows me to control the corpse, but the point is that what is considered a corpse is only the body.
If another part is still alive, I can still control it as long as the body is in a dead state.
