Chapter 127: Revisiting Yeom
Chapter 127: Revisiting Yeom
A few days have passed and unfortunately something "bad" happened. First, I made progress. Yesheon and I continued cultivating every night for about 30 to 40 minutes, which was her limit.
We even tried to stay longer, but after an hour, she started feeling unwell and we had to stop. Even though she said she was fine, it was obvious she wasn’t. After studying a bit about cultivation, I saw how it can be harmful to the body.
So it’s something that must be done with a lot of moderation and caution. That’s why we went back to doing only 30 minutes, which was the recommended time between us without her getting sick.
And with that, I solidly achieved the formation of the core without any problems, becoming as strong as Lyuei. Although after that, my power didn’t have that many increases, after all, it’s just a few days of training.
And apparently, to increase my cultivation further, I must break my own limits. It’s as if there’s a wall holding me back, and I can only get stronger if I break that wall. Even if I continue to train hard, I won’t get stronger until I break that first wall.
And cultivation takes time. The members of the orthodox sect clearly have prejudice against me, with Lyuei being the only one who no longer has any problems with me, since we now always train together.
She’s definitely a cool person, although her friends clearly don’t like me, but I don’t care that they don’t like me. I’m more focused on learning on my own than caring about what they think of me.
Moreover, Lyuei probably doesn’t see as many problems in me because she has a huge admiration for Yesheon, which makes her not have such a disdain for my "past," which is great.
And that’s where the current problem comes in. Since I’ve been in the orthodox sect for many days now, Yeom decided she wanted to see me. She punched the sect’s defense formation, making everything tremble.
And when they went to see her, she said she wanted to see the progress in curing my curse. And that’s where I’m screwed. She’ll clearly notice my cultivation, but I have a good excuse for it.
I can say that my cultivation has increased due to various medicines, which is possible, since my current cultivation is low, so it increasing from eating certain things is totally plausible.
Lyuei, Yesheon, and I went down the mountain. Lyuei said she wanted to see the celestial demon out of curiosity, and Yesheon allowed it, so she came along. It took us a few minutes to descend the mountain.
From here, I can already see Yeom with her arms crossed and an arrogant expression. Since I’ve become stronger, I can sense the level of cultivation of some people, but I don’t feel anything from Yesheon and Yeom because they are far above me.
"Oh! Shizune!" Yeom waves excitedly at me, but her face soon closes in silent rage as she looks at Yesheon. The three of us approach the defense formation, but we don’t cross to the other side.
"As I can see, Shizune has not shown any improvement in her curse," Yeom says, looking disdainfully at Yesheon.
"That’s true, the curse on her is more complex than expected, but I’m taking good care of it, don’t worry. Besides, she’s not in life-threatening danger," Yesheon responds, while Lyuei looks curiously at the celestial demon.
"Incompetent..." Yeom mutters loudly enough for everyone to hear, making it clear how much she dislikes Yesheon. Lyuei seems to want to say something, but remains silent, perhaps out of fear of what Yeom might do.
"...Wait..." Yeom looks at me, obviously noticing my increased cultivation.
"...Shizune...I see you’re stronger...could you tell me how?" Yeom questions me, but looks at Yesheon. The thing is, I have so much Yin Qi that only someone extremely powerful with a lot of Yang could do dual cultivation with me.
Which obviously leaves the only suitable person to be Yesheon, who is right here now. If a cultivator who is not very powerful tries to do dual cultivation with me, they would turn into a block of ice due to my cold Yin.
"Yesheon, can you tell me how Shizune is cultivating?" Yeom ignores me, asking Yesheon this time, saying her name in a somewhat disturbing way.
"Well, of course I’m helping her. She and I are..."
"IT WAS MEDICINES!" I interrupt, looking incredulously at Yesheon. There’s a limit to naivety. She was really going to talk about what we’ve been doing! Is she crazy? Yeom would have destroyed this entire mountain and the three of us!
"Yesheon has been giving me some medicines to help try to remove my curse, and they’ve been strengthening me," It’s not entirely a lie, since Yesheon really does give me various medicines because of the constant training I do with Lyuei.
"Oh, I see...that’s okay, I was even thinking something different..." Yeom says relieved, while Yesheon looks at me without understanding why I interrupted, but leaving it at that.
’Fortunately, she can’t notice that I’m cultivating...’ There’s no way she can know with whom I’m doing dual cultivation or if I’m doing dual cultivation, because my Yin completely covers any Yang that may remain in my body.
"I want to talk to her alone. Could you please leave?" Yeom speaks to Lyuei and Yesheon as if she were their master, and they were obliged to obey.
"..." Lyuei was going to say something, but Yesheon politely just nods her head and starts climbing the mountain.
"Shizune, I’ll wait for you at the top of the mountain," Yesheon says, taking Lyuei with her, while I’m left here alone. Without permission, Yeom can’t enter the formation without breaking it, so she just stays on the other side, observing me.
"Shizune, how’s your stay in this place? They’re not treating you badly, are they?" Yeom asks worriedly.
"No, I’m being treated quite well. Yesheon doesn’t let anyone do anything to me," I can’t call Yesheon my master in front of Yeom.
"Yes, I figured she would do that. She is very ’righteous,’ always keeping her word. That’s at least what makes her reliable for the duty of curing you."
"But I notice she hasn’t made any progress...how disappointing...It’s good that you’ve become a little stronger. Have you learned something new from it?"
"No...actually, I learned a new technique. It’s ice-based," I thought about lying, but I gave up. I think Yeom would notice if I tried to lie, and I don’t want to risk her getting angry or suspicious.
"Ice...yes, it fits your affinity. It seems Yesheon is not all bad for a fifth-category cultivator. I’m glad to hear that no one has messed with you."
"If you have any problems, let me know, and I’ll destroy this place entirely...Besides, don’t try to cultivate with anyone else. You can only cultivate with me."
"What have you been up to, Yeom?" I ask curiously, wondering what she’s been doing while I’m busy.
"Not much. I’ve just been camping here in the forest. I’ll only leave here with you, so all I have left to do is look at this place, but I have time. I’ve been cultivating during the time I’m not doing anything."
"This mountain is very rich in Qi, which is much more than I expected. They found a good place to establish their sect."
Now that Yeom brings up the subject, I remember the books I’ve read in the last few days. They explain that the tops of mountains are pure locations, excellent for constant training, as they are very rich in Qi.
So it is the duty of the leader of a sect to find a good location full of Qi to establish their base, so that the cultivators living there don’t have any problems with it.
"Yeom, I’ll be going back, okay? They might suspect...that I’m spreading information I shouldn’t, and they might expel me if I take too long," I use an excuse to leave.
"...You’re right, you can go back...but first, take these papers with you. Promise you’ll use them every night from now on. These papers will form a small temporary barrier to prevent surprise attacks," She says, a bit disappointed, while handing me some papers.
I stand up and take the papers, checking them. I don’t know what’s on them, but if it’s something for defense, I think I’ll use them. Someone might really try to attack me because they don’t like me.
I stand up and turn my back to leave.
"Shizune, don’t get attached to anyone in the orthodox sect. Don’t forget that they are our enemies. I’m worried you’ll be deceived by these dirty, filthy rats," Yeom says to me as I start climbing the mountain.
’They are your enemies, not mine...’ I would like to say that, but obviously I don’t have the courage. So I just decided to keep going silently. It is a fact that no one here is my enemy.
We’re just on slightly different sides, but it’s not so bad that it’s irreparable.
As I climb the mountains, I check the papers. They are identical to some I already have, so it must just be a basic barrier formation that is harder to notice if someone tries to attack me.
If I don’t use them, Yeom might know. And since she gave me a lot of these papers, I can use them every night. I store most of them in my storage ring, while using one on myself.
A small barrier is formed around me, but unlike what I thought, even though I’m using it on myself, the barrier is not mobile. That explains why she asked me to use it in my room, as the barrier doesn’t follow.
It seems to only be useful to use in a place where I’ll be exposed and will be there for a good amount of time, making it suitable for a room.
