My Creation Came to Life on an Island in Another World -
Chapter 23: A Visit to the Desert
Chapter 23: A Visit to the Desert
Lilith, after hearing what I had just said,
"There’s not much to do there anymore. Ever since the barrier went up, the creatures inside have been pretty dumb—they just attack anything they see."
Hearing that, I thought,
Is it really necessary to go there after what she just said? What am I even going after?
Thinking a bit deeper, an idea came to me.
Why don’t I test the scythe there? Maybe it’s the safest place to use it, since I don’t know its full capabilities in this world. And I could take the opportunity to see what kind of creatures the bugs have turned into... or should I be calling them the Corrupted now?
With that in mind, I said,
"I’d like to run a few tests and see what kind of creatures they’ve become."
Lilith looked thoughtful, and after a moment she replied,
"Okaaay~, I’ll guide you to the desert."
With that, she stood up and walked toward the balcony of the tower, asking with a teasing tone,
"Still remember how to fly?~"
Hearing that, confused, I tried to come up with an answer.
"Still know how to fly?" What did she mean by that? Some skill I used before?
Digging into my memory, I could only recall one skill: Wings of the Night.
A skill that grants me four wings—two large black ones and, beneath them, two smaller white ones.
Answering Lilith’s question,
"I’d say I do." But I immediately regretted giving such a confident reply.
Damn confidence... With a quiet sigh, I continued my thoughts. Now I just have to try...
Opening the script folder and finding the skill Wings of the Night, I quickly compiled it and stood up.
Now on the balcony with Lilith, she said,
"Let’s see if you really remember~"
She was teasing me again...
Without waiting for a reply, Lilith spread her black wings, which extended from her lower back. With a powerful flap, she soared into the air. Seeing that, I activated the skill. I felt a bit of discomfort on my back, but I quickly understood what to do and followed after her.
Heading southeast on the island, we flew over Castle Town—the city built around the castle—then passed over a dense forest.
After a bit of flying, we spotted several signs of campfires, likely from adventurers.
The forest ended and gave way to a zone filled with buildings. This was Lilith’s territory: the City of Puppets.
On the streets, I saw countless succubi and incubi trying to lure in customers. But the city wasn’t only that—I also saw steam rising from bathhouses, well-built streets lined with shops, and a cheerful population.
At the center of the city stood Lilith’s Puppet Mansion, but we didn’t stop there and simply kept flying.
We passed through another forest. This one showed no signs of life—no smoke, no movement.
After a while, we finally saw the desert ahead.
It was surrounded by a faint bluish barrier. Looking at it, I thought,
So that’s what the barrier looks like... Interesting.
As the desert came into view, Lilith said,
"We’re almost there. There are guards stationed around the edges to prevent any outsiders from getting in~"
Seeing the pride in her tone, I replied,
"Good job, Lilith." I simply praised her for the effort.
Hearing that, she smiled lightly, and we continued.
We landed near the barrier. A guard approached but quickly recognized us, gave a simple greeting, and returned to his post.
"See~? They’re pretty competent," Lilith said, proud of herself.
"I noticed..." I replied flatly, trying not to feed her ego any further.
...
With a brief silence between us, she dropped the mature woman act again, puffed her cheeks, and muttered sideways with crossed arms,
"Seriously... Is it that hard to just give me a little praise?"
Hearing that, I could only think,
Didn’t I just praise her?
Ignoring her sulking for now, I opened my inventory and pulled out the scythe.
Seeing it in my hands, Lilith stopped complaining and said in a serious tone,
"You’re really going to use that thing?"
A bit thrown off by the question, I answered,
"I figured the desert was the best place, right?"
She shrugged and replied,
"Just know... If Azathoth finds out you used that scythe, she’ll strangle you~"
Hearing that, I wondered,
What kind of memory do they have of me using this thing?
"I doubt it’s that serious..." I paused, then shifted the subject. "Shall we?"
Lilith looked at me, then returned to her usual tone.
"Okay~" she said, stepping closer.
And just like that, we entered the barrier.
After walking for a few minutes, we saw a mass of sand heading toward us.
"Looks like someone already noticed us~" Lilith teased.
Hmm... Should I use the scythe now? What about the range?
As I pondered, the creature came closer.
When it got near, it dived into the ground and emerged again, revealing a tar-colored body, multiple arms on each side flailing blindly, and eyes scattered all over. Its front was a gaping circular mouth lined with jagged teeth and fragments of human skulls.
Looking at it, I thought,
What the hell is this?...
The Corrupted Worm stood still, half-buried in the sand, its many eyes glowing in different colors.
Upon spotting us, the skulls across its body twisted into grotesque expressions of disgust.
It dove back into the sand. Lilith said seriously,
"Here he comes."
At that, I thought,
No more time for hesitation. I’ll wait until it rises a bit before I strike.
With that in mind, I waited.
Feeling the ground beneath us give way, we took to the air as the Corrupted Worm lunged at us.
Now that part of its body was exposed, I slashed horizontally in front of me and activated the scythe’s ability: Reality Cut.
The worm vanished.
In its place, a massive rift split the desert—starting as a thin slash that suddenly widened, pulling everything around it inside.
Sand and air were sucked in violently.
I looked at Lilith, who was doing her best not to get pulled in as well.
Since I was handling it fine, I flew over and grabbed her.
Feeling me behind her, Lilith stopped resisting the gravity pulling at her.
After about ten seconds, the rift disappeared with a loud burst.
Lilith looked at it and asked,
"You sure you still want to use that thing?"
I stayed quiet for a moment before answering,
"Maybe..."
The problem with the scythe is... it doesn’t deal damage. It just deletes. And it doesn’t distinguish allies either.
I made it to be absurdly overpowered—and now that it’s real, it’s kind of a problem...
After a moment of thinking, I came to a decision.
I’ll only use it when absolutely necessary...
I stored the scythe in my inventory and looked at Lilith. She was sweating.
"Why are you sweating so much?" I asked her.
"Hm?, oh, it’s just hot" she replied, clearly mocking the question.
She really is something sometimes...
Sighing at her answer, I let go of her waist and asked,
"Wanna head back?"
"I’d love to~ But don’t we have more tests to run?"
I paused to think.
Hmm... Nothing else to test, really. Just a bit of curiosity about the Corrupted, but we took a long time to get here, and the sun’s already setting...
With that thought, I said,
"Let’s go back. I want to see how your city’s doing."
Lilith didn’t expect that. She froze for a second before teasing me,
"Oooh~ You want to see how my city’s doing, huh~?" she said, as if I had some hidden motive.
Another sigh escaped me, and I played along.
"You know I’d be going after you, right?" I said jokingly, though my tone didn’t help make it clear.
Lilith turned slightly red.
"T-That’s..." She didn’t finish and just looked down at the sand.
Amused by her internal fluster, I thought,
Her reactions are kind of fun... If I did this with Livia, she’d throw herself at me without hesitation...
Wondering how the others would react, some time passed before Lilith snapped out of it and broke the silence,
"Shall we go now?~"
"Sure."
And once again, we flew back toward the City of Puppets.
