My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back
Chapter 85: New & Fragile

Chapter 85: New & Fragile

"I don’t want to be just a secret," Lunara murmured after a few moments of silence, her words quieter than she intended. "But I also don’t want to be thrown into something I’m not ready for." She gently pulled her hands from his, unsure how to navigate the complexities of their situation.

Eryx gave a small nod, his fingers grazing the back of her hand as he let go. "I’m sorry I dragged you into this mess," he began, his voice laced with regret. "But something happened overnight, and I think you deserve to know." He paused, taking a deep breath before continuing. "The media is a mess right now, and I’m trying to fix it. But I need you to bear with me while I do my best to protect you."

Lunara looked up at him, her expression was confused.

Eryx continued, his gaze steady. "Take your time to think about what you want. If you want to be known, to stand by my side and face everything with me, I will do everything in my power to protect you from the chaos. But if you choose to stay hidden, if that’s what you feel more comfortable with, I’ll make sure you stay out of the spotlight, away from all this mess."

He took a step closer, his voice softening. "Whatever you choose, Lunara, I’ll respect it. But know that I’m here, and I’ll always have your back."

Lunara looked down at her hands, her thoughts swirling. She had never expected to be in a situation like this, torn between wanting to be part of Eryx’s world and the overwhelming pressure of being thrust into it so suddenly. After a few moments of silence, she met his gaze, trying to find the words to express how she felt.

But just as she was about to speak, the sound of the doorbell rang through the room, cutting the moment short.

Eryx sighed, a brief flicker of irritation crossing his features. He turned toward the door and moved to answer it, his thoughts still lingering on Lunara’s words.

When he opened the door, Callum stood on the other side, holding a neatly folded set of clothes in his hands. "Mr. Grantham," Callum said with a nod, "I’ve brought Miss Lunara’s new clothes as requested."

Eryx glanced at Callum, his gaze sharp. "Callum," he said, his voice steady but firm. "From now on, you’ll address her as ’Madam,’ not ’Miss Lunara.’"

Callum blinked in surprise but quickly recovered. "Understood, sir."

Eryx nodded briefly, then took the clothes from Callum’s hands. As Callum stepped back, Eryx turned to Lunara, offering her a soft smile. "I guess you need to change again."

Lunara smiled, then nodded. After all, it would be better to change into something fresh, considering the clothes she was wearing had been on since yesterday. She had never been one for lingering discomfort, especially when things felt as chaotic as they did now.

"Thank you," she said quietly, taking the clothes from him. She paused for a moment, her gaze lingering on Eryx. "I won’t be long."

With that, she stepped toward the bathroom, closing the door gently behind her.

Eryx turned back to Callum, who was still standing silently just outside the room. His tone dropped low, laced with urgency. "Sunglasses, a hat, and a face mask, bring them to me as fast as you can. We need to slip her out of this chaos right away."

Callum blinked in surprise but nodded swiftly.

Eryx’s jaw tightened. "I don’t have a good feeling. Valerie... She’s planning something. And I’m not going to let Lunara be caught in the middle of it."

Callum didn’t waste any time. "I’ll get them right away," he said and quickly walked off.

Eryx closed the door and sighed. He looked at the bathroom door. Lunara was still inside. Even with everything going on outside, she was the only one he wanted to protect. Valerie showing up like that didn’t help. He couldn’t trust her, not fully.

A few minutes later, the bathroom door opened.

Lunara stepped out, now dressed in the clean clothes Callum brought. Her hair was tied up, and she looked more put together than before.

Eryx’s face immediately lit up as he walked towards her, "It seems like the food is taking longer to arrive than I expected." He took her hands, "Can we eat after we check out from here?"

Lunara blinked in surprise at his sudden shift in tone but smiled softly. "Sure," she said. "I’m okay with that."

Eryx gave her fingers a gentle squeeze. "Good. I want to get you somewhere safer first. Somewhere quieter."

She nodded again, her eyes searching his face. "Is there something wrong?"

Eryx hesitated for a moment, then shook his head slowly. "Nothing... it’s just—" he paused, knowing that explaining everything to Lunara now might be overwhelming. "There’s a lot going on at the moment, and I promise I’ll tell you everything. But for now, if there’s anything that feels unclear or confusing, please come to me and ask. It would be better for both of us if we stay on the same page, since..."

He trailed off, unsure how to say what he really meant.

Lunara’s grip on his hand tightened gently. "I understand. I’ll try my best to trust you."

Eryx looked at her, his expression soft but conflicted. He wanted her trust, no, he really needed it but asking for it so soon felt unfair, especially when their relationship was still so new and fragile. Still, her words eased something in him, even if just a little.

Just then, a knock came at the door. Eryx opened it to find Callum holding a paper bag. Without a word, he handed it over, giving a subtle nod before stepping aside.

"Sunglasses, a hat, and a face mask," Callum said calmly although his forehead was sweating, probably from running around to get his job done. "As requested, sir."

Eryx took the items and turned back to Lunara. "Come here," he said gently.

She stepped closer, and he carefully placed the hat over her hair, then helped her put on the mask and sunglasses. His movements were quick, but his hands were gentle, brushing a few loose strands of her hair behind her ear.

"You look like a movie star now," he murmured with a small smile, then opened the door.

Without waiting another second, Eryx took her hand and they slipped out of the hotel room, keeping close as they headed for the elevator, not knowing what was coming for them just a few minutes later.
