Chapter 81: Warning : Finally
Chapter 81: Warning : Finally
Lunara lay stiffly on the bed, her back turned to Eryx, regretting every word she had said earlier. She could feel the weight of his presence beside her, the warmth of his body radiating just inches away.
This was fine. Completely fine.
Except it wasn’t.
Her heartbeat was erratic, her breaths shallow. She dared him, but now she was the one drowning in her own nerves. Meanwhile, Eryx lay on his side, one arm tucked behind his head, completely at ease.
"Regretting your big words now?" His voice was amused, and she could practically hear the smirk in it.
Lunara’s grip on the blanket tightened. "Shut up."
Eryx let out a low chuckle. "Thought so."
Silence settled between them, thick with unspoken tension. Lunara squeezed her eyes shut, determined to fall asleep. But how was she supposed to when the man she had spent two years trying to hate was right beside her, making it impossible to think straight?
Lunara barely had time to react before she felt the bed shift. A moment later, warmth crept closer, she could feel Eryx had moved.
Then, his voice, low and teasing, brushed against her ear. "You should at least let me see your face if you want to keep me up all night."
Her breath hitched. Before she could stop him, his hand gently grasped her shoulder, coaxing her to turn toward him.
"What are you doing?"
Eryx’s gaze was intense, unwavering as he leaned in closer. His voice was barely above a whisper, but the weight of his words hung heavily in the air. "I’m just making sure I stay awake," he said, a slight smirk playing on his lips.
Lunara’s heart raced, the proximity between them making everything feel ten times more intense. "You think I’ll just let you stare at me all night?" she asked, trying to sound nonchalant, though her voice wavered slightly.
Eryx’s thumb brushed gently against her jaw, tilting her head slightly to meet his eyes. "If I’m going to lose sleep, I might as well have something worth losing it for." He teased with his eyes, winking just to see her reaction.
Lunara closed her eyes and frowned, regretting everything she had said earlier. Honestly, in that moment, being so close to him made her heart race uncontrollably. She didn’t know why, but the conclusion she reached, given her nerves, was that she was simply damn attracted to him. "I’m just being normal," she mumbled to herself and took another deep breath.
"What is it?" Eryx asked, inching closer to her face. "You are not cursing me, right?"
The moment she opened her eyes, their gazes locked. His proximity made her almost forget to breathe, and the intensity in his eyes only heightened the tension between them. She could feel every inch of her body reacting to his closeness, the warmth spreading through her veins.
"Breath honey," Eryx chuckled, finding her adorable.
Lunara blinked rapidly, trying to steady herself, but the sound of his voice, warm and teasing, only made her heart race faster. His presence was consuming, every part of her drawn to him. She could feel the heat radiating from his body, and her mind kept messing up with her, ’Why am I wanting him right now?
Lunara shook her head, trying to push away the overwhelming desire clouding her thoughts. ’Get a grip, Lunara, get a grip!’ she scolded herself, but it was like her body wasn’t listening. Desperation crept into her chest as she tried to turn away, to break free from the magnetic pull of Eryx’s presence.
But before she could move, his arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her back against him.
"Please," he murmured, his voice low and teasing, "allow me to hug you until morning. I promise, just a hug."
She scoffed. "You’re a pro, right? ’Promise, just a hug...’" She mocked his words, trying to mask her nerves.
Eryx’s lips curled into a knowing smile as he pulled her even closer, his breath warm against her ear. "I’ve always been a man of my word," he said softly. "But if you need reassurance, I can make it even clearer: just a hug. No more, no less."
Lunara stiffened, feeling the heat of his body against hers. Closing her eyes again, she completely lost herself in the moment.
"Sleep," Eryx’s deep voice reached her ears, smooth and calming. "About our marriage, I’ve already decided to announce it. I guess I was late. Don’t worry, I’ll make it clear that I’m not playing any games with you."
His words made Lunara slowly open her eyes, her breath catching. "I really wanted to believe you," she muttered unconsciously.
"Please do it then," Eryx whispered, caressing her hair softly.
Lunara turned her head slightly, meeting his gaze with a quiet intensity. "Then do you promise me that you will never leave me again the moment I decide to believe in you?"
Eryx’s expression softened, a rare vulnerability flickering in his eyes. "I promise, Lunara," he said firmly, his hand gently brushing her cheek. "I’ll never leave you."
She let out a sigh and unexpectedly asked the question that was out of nowhere, "So, am I really not looking any different than two years ago?"
Eryx chuckled softly, a low, almost playful sound that rumbled through his chest. His fingers brushed through her hair before slipping under her head, pulling her closer. He leaned in just enough for their faces to be mere inches apart, his breath warm against her skin.
"You really have no idea, do you?" he murmured, his voice thick with desire. "I’m going crazy holding myself back from doing anything to you." His hand caressed the back of her neck, his thumb grazing the soft skin beneath her ear. "You’re so beautiful, Lunara, it messes with my mind."
Lunara blinked, her heart racing from the intensity of his words. She tried to steady her breath, but it was becoming increasingly difficult. Without thinking, she muttered, "It’s a relief then."
Eryx smiled under the dim light, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. The sight of it made Lunara freeze for a moment, unsure of what to do next. But before she could think, she leaned in, her lips brushing lightly against his in an innocent peck. "Thanks," she whispered, almost too softly for him to hear.
The simple gesture, however, seemed to be all Eryx needed. Feeling like he had received a silent invitation, he moved slightly closer, his body pressing gently against hers. He shifted his weight, his hand slowly sliding behind her neck, pulling her even closer. The warmth of his chest against hers made her pulse quicken.
"Can I?" His voice was low, thick with desire, yet still carrying a hint of gentleness, as if waiting for her to give him the word.
Lunara, caught in the heat of the moment, answered without words. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer. In that instant, their lips collided again, this time without hesitation.
Eryx responded immediately, his hands moving to her waist, pulling her against him. He didn’t waste a second. His kiss deepened, his lips pressing harder, as though he couldn’t get enough. His tongue brushed against hers, and Lunara instinctively responded, matching his urgency.
Eryx groaned softly into her mouth, his breath quickening as he slid his hand to the small of her back. His movements became more urgent, a signal of how much he wanted her. Lunara’s fingers tightened in his hair, pulling him even closer, unable to get enough of him.
He pulled back just enough to trail his lips down her neck, leaving soft kisses along her skin. His hands slid to the edge of her shirt, his fingers brushing lightly against her skin. "Ah shit," he muttered under his breath, halting briefly. "I don’t think I can stop now, so please don’t say you’re going to regret it tomorrow."
Lunara blinked, her chest rising and falling rapidly. She shook her head after a few seconds, her eyes locked with his.
"Then..." Eryx whispered, his voice dark with desire as his fingers slid under her shirt, pulling it up slowly, inch by inch. Just as it passed over her shoulders, the fabric fluttered across her face, momentarily obscuring her eyes.
The sudden darkness heightened the intensity. She couldn’t see him, couldn’t read his expression, but she could feel him, closer than ever, the air thick with the unspoken tension between them.
Eryx leaned in, his lips grazing hers before moving to her ear. His breath was hot, laced with urgency. "Are you sure?"
Lunara’s voice was steady, though her pulse raced and every part of her body felt tense. "I’m sure."
And just like that, Eryx’s lips began to explore every inch of her body, each kiss leaving a burning trail of sensation. The world outside seemed to fade away, and the air between them thickened, heavy with anticipation as time itself seemed to stand still.
