My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back -
Chapter 75: His Weaknesses
Chapter 75: His Weaknesses
Lunara stood frozen as Eryx’s car disappeared down the road.
The moment the red taillights were out of sight, her knees buckled, and she squatted down on the gravel.
’He really left me.’
A shaky breath escaped her lips before the tears started falling. She bit down hard on her lip, trying to stop the sobs, but it was useless. The pain in her chest felt unbearable.
She didn’t even know what hurt more the fact that he left or the fact that, deep down, she never expected him to.
Minutes passed. Maybe five, maybe more. She barely managed to calm herself, wiping her damp cheeks before pulling out her phone. Her hands trembled as she tapped on the screen, searching for a ride.
’Forget it. Just leave.’
She booked a Grab car and waited. When it arrived, she slipped inside without hesitation, giving the driver the address of a nearby hotel. She didn’t know what else to do. She just needed to be alone.
Meanwhile, Eryx was still there.
Not there exactly. He had driven a little further up the road, about five hundred meters ahead. He had seen her walking toward the front when he left, so he decided to wait. Let her cool down. Give her a moment. Then, he’d go back and talk to her properly.
Except she never appeared.
His fingers drummed impatiently against the steering wheel. He checked the mirror. Still no sign of her.
A bad feeling crept up his spine.
"Where did she go?"
Instinct kicking in, he instantly turned the car around, speeding back to the spot where he had left her earlier.
But when he got there—nothing.
The empty road stretched before him, isolated and silent, with no sign of Lunara anywhere. His chest tightened. His eyes darted around, scanning the area, searching for any hint of where she might have gone.
His hands clenched around the wheel as he cursed under his breath. ’What am I doing?! Damn!’
Pulling out his phone, he quickly dialed her number. It rang once. Twice. Then, "The number you have dialed is unavailable. Please leave a message after the beep."
Eryx shut his eyes briefly, jaw tightening as frustration and panic battled inside him. He tried again. Same result.
"Where the hell did she go?" Eryx slammed his fist on the steering wheel, his frustration boiling over. Without wasting another second, he stepped on the gas, heading straight home.
The moment he arrived, he strode through the front door, his eyes scanning the living room, then the kitchen and even the maid’s room. Nothing.
His heart pounded as he rushed upstairs, checking the bedroom to be just empty. The guest room, nothing. Even the bathroom door was open, proving she wasn’t there either.
A deep frown settled on his face. ’Where else would she go?’
Frustrated, he rushed to Naomi’s door and knocked sharply. "Open the door."
A few seconds later, Naomi opened it with a frown. "Can you at least wait after knocking once? Mila is sleeping."
Eryx didn’t care. "Where’s Lunara?" He asked without wasting a second, his patience wearing thin.
Naomi blinked, taken aback. "Isn’t she with you?"
His jaw tightened. "No. Call her. Now."
Naomi, sensing the urgency in his tone, didn’t argue. She immediately pulled out her phone and dialed Lunara’s number. Eryx listened as the faint ringing echoed in the silence. Then, "The number you have dialed is unavailable. Please leave a message after the beep."
Naomi sighed, lowering the phone. "Her phone’s off."
She looked up at Eryx, now more concerned than confused. "What happened? Why are you looking for her like this?"
Eryx exhaled sharply, raking a hand through his hair. "She got out of the car earlier. I was going to bring her back after she calmed down, but when I went back, she was gone."
Naomi’s eyes widened. "You left her alone? Where?"
"Somewhere near the highway."
Naomi’s expression instantly turned into disbelief. "You left her there?!"
Eryx clenched his jaw. "I didn’t just leave her. I was waiting ahead to give her time to cool off. She was supposed to walk forward, but she never showed up."
Naomi folded her arms, her concern now mixed with frustration. "And now her phone is off."
Eryx didn’t respond, but his silence spoke louder than words.
Naomi sighed and shook her head. "Great. Just great. Now what?"
Eryx had already made up his mind. "I’ll find her." Without waiting for a reply, he turned with a deepened frown and stormed out.
Naomi watched him go, exhaling sharply as she shut the door behind her. Typing a message to Lunara, she decided to support her if she needed some space.
"Call me back after you calm down. Eryx is going crazy looking for you. Serves him right."
She hit send and sighed, hoping Lunara would at least check her phone soon.
In the meantime, Eryx drove through the streets, scanning every sidewalk, every waiting area, anywhere she could have gone. His mind kept replaying the way she had looked at him before stepping out of the car, hurt and disappointed.
He ran a hand through his hair in frustration. ’She wouldn’t have gone far... right?’
Just as he reached an intersection, his phone rang. He immediately grabbed it, but his chest tightened when he saw the caller ID. It wasn’t Lunara. Instead, it was his grandmother, Matilda. The last person he wanted to talk to.
He ignored the call, gripping the wheel tighter. A few seconds later, his phone rang again. Then again.
Eryx clenched his jaw, refusing to answer. But this time, instead of calling, Eleanor sent a message:
"Come to the mansion. Immediately."
Just as he decided to ignore it, another message appeared.
"If you don’t come now, I’ll take your silence as your resignation from the position of heir. Let’s see how long you last without the family name protecting you."
Eryx’s grip on the wheel tightened, his jaw clenching. He should’ve known she wouldn’t just let him ignore her.
He didn’t care about the title itself, but Matilda wasn’t just threatening to strip him of a name. It was more like she was reminding him of everything that came with it. His position, influence, power, and everything he had built under that legacy. To protect his weaknesses, he knew he needed all of it.
