My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back -
Chapter 57: He Is Worried
Chapter 57: He Is Worried
The quiet hum of the hospital filled the room as Lunara rested against the pillow. Naomi sat beside her, scrolling through her phone, waiting.
Then, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed in the hallway. Naomi barely had time to react before the door swung open, revealing Eryx, who panic was all over his face.
His usual composed demeanor was gone and his sharp eyes scanned the room, landing immediately on Lunara.
"What happened?" His voice was tight and a bit shaky, but Naomi could tell he was barely holding back his emotions.
She leaned back in her chair. "A small head injury. The doctor said—"
But Eryx wasn’t listening. He took a step closer to the bed, his gaze locked onto Lunara’s bandaged temple. His jaw clenched. "How did this happen?"
Naomi sighed. "Look, it’s a long story, but the important thing is she’s okay. She just fell asleep a little while ago."
Eryx ignored her again. He crouched slightly, resting his palm gently against Lunara’s arm as if to reassure himself she was really there. His brows furrowed. "She didn’t wake up after passing out?"
"She didn’t pass out, she was just exhausted," Naomi emphasized. "The doctor said it’s normal. You’re acting like she’s on her deathbed."
Eryx exhaled sharply but didn’t argue. Instead, he stayed quiet, watching Lunara’s sleeping face. For a long moment, he just stood there, his hand lingering on the edge of the bed.
Naomi tilted her head. "Are you seriously worried?"
Eryx shot her a look. "She’s my wife and hurts. Of course, I’m worried."
Naomi chuckled. "Honestly, it’s been a while since I saw this kind of expression." She pointed at his face, making a circle with her finger.
Eryx swatted her hand away and sent her his glare sharp. "Tell me what happened."
Naomi sighed, crossing her arms. "Long story short? We were at the boutique, and there was this girl called Eloise. I tried to snatch something from her, I mean just to confirm something. In the struggle, Lunara got pushed and hit her head on a rack. That’s how she ended up like this."
Eryx’s eyes darkened. "Eloise? Who is that? And seriously, you tried to snatch something? Are you a kid?"
Naomi rolled her eyes. "Oh, come on. It’s not like I did it for fun. I had a reason."
Eryx folded his arms, his expression cold. "And was that reason worth Lunara getting hurt?"
Naomi flinched but quickly masked it with a scowl. "She was using a card that I believe was stolen from Lunara." She crossed her arms and rolled her eyes before shifting her gaze away, sulking.
Eryx’s eyes narrowed. "And you thought snatching it was the best way to handle that?"
Naomi huffed. "I didn’t plan to get into a fight! But Eloise wouldn’t let go, and then things just... escalated."
Eryx clenched his jaw, his gaze flickering to Lunara’s sleeping form. "And where is this Eloise now?"
Naomi hesitated. "She ran away."
His expression darkened. "Great."
Naomi crossed her arms tighter. "Look, I get it, alright? I messed up. But what matters now is that Lunara is okay."
Eryx exhaled sharply, rubbing his temple as if trying to rein in his frustration. He crouched beside Lunara again, his fingers brushing gently against her bandage. The anger in his face softened, replaced by something else, something that Naomi couldn’t quite place.
She watched him for a moment before sighing. "You’re really worried about her, huh?"
Eryx didn’t respond right away. His gaze remained on Lunara. Finally, he muttered, "Of course, I am."
Naomi smirked slightly. "Guess you’re not as heartless as you act."
Eryx shot her a sharp glare. "Get lost."
Naomi chuckled but didn’t push further. Instead, she stood up and took a step back. "I’ll go see if I can get an update from the doctor."
As she walked to the door, she suddenly stopped and glanced back at him. "Oh, and just out of curiosity," she drawled, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Did you, by any chance, give Lunara’s dear father a card...our family black card as a token of appreciation?" She rolled her eyes dramatically.
"A card? When did I ever do that?" Eryx frowned, his brows knitting together.
Naomi watched him closely, trying to gauge his reaction. "So, you’re saying you didn’t?"
His frown deepened. "Of course not. Why would I give him anything, let alone a card?"
Naomi clicked her tongue, crossing her arms. "Well, that’s interesting. Because Eloise was flaunting a card, claiming you gave it to her as some grand gesture."
Eryx’s expression darkened. "Eloise? Who is she again?" His voice was dangerously low.
"Ah, Lunara’s half-sister. And guess what?" Naomi tilted her head, her tone dripping with amusement. "She made it sound like you were interested in her."
Eryx let out a short, humorless laugh. "She’s delusional." His gaze flickered toward Lunara, still fast asleep.
Naomi smirked. "Well, I’d love to see her face when she finds out you don’t even remember her." She leaned against the wall, arms crossed. "Oh, I’m guessing you were the one who blocked the card?"
Eryx gave a light nod, his gaze flicking toward her briefly before settling back on Lunara. "I found out last night that the card I gave her was stolen, so I blocked it right away."
Naomi let out a low whistle. "Damn. No wonder Eloise panicked the moment she realized it stopped working." She tilted her head. "So, what’s the plan? Gonna let this slide, or are you going to make someone regret it?"
Eryx’s expression remained cold. "What do you think?"
Naomi chuckled, shaking her head. "Figured as much. You’re not the type to just let things slide."
Eryx didn’t respond, his gaze fixed on Lunara’s sleeping face. His fingers twitched slightly, as if resisting the urge to touch her. He didn’t know why, but only one night didn’t see her, he felt like he almost went crazy.
Naomi watched him for a moment before sighing. "Well, try not to make too much of a mess."
