My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back -
Chapter 34: Mommy
Chapter 34: Mommy
Eryx leaned in, his gaze dark and unreadable, the air between them thick with tension. Lunara’s chest heaving heavily as she moved back, pressing herself against the headboard. Looking around, she had nowhere to escape when Eryx’s hands rested in between her, caging her in.
"You’re not stopping me," he murmured, his lips hovering dangerously close.
Lunara’s heart pounded so loudly she swore he could hear it. Her fingers curled into the sheets, torn between shoving him away and grabbing onto him. Her breath came in short, uneven gasps as she forced herself to meet his gaze.
"I—" Her voice caught in her throat.
Eryx’s smirk deepened. "What? Lost your words, wifey?" His voice was husky, teasing, but there was something else too.
He tilted his head, brushing his nose against hers, and her body tensed at the electric sensation. "Tell me to stop," he murmured. "And I will."
"Then stop!" She immediately replied, breathing so fast.
Eryx chuckled lowly, his breath fanning against her skin. "Ah, you’re too easy to tease," he mused. "But now that you’ve called me a pervert, maybe I should start acting like one?"
Lunara’s eyes widened, and she shoved at his chest. "Stay back!"
He let out an amused hum, his arms bracing against the headboard to keep himself steady. "Relax, wifey. I was just proving a point."
Before she could snap back, a sharp knock on the door interrupted them.
"Daddy! Open!"
Lunara stilled. Her breath caught in her throat.
Did she hear that right?
Her eyes darted to Eryx, expecting some kind of denial, some kind of explanation. But instead, he let out a long, slow sigh, rubbing the back of his neck.
Another knock, more impatient this time. "Daddy!"
Lunara’s lips parted in shock. "You... have a daughter?" she whispered, barely believing the words as they left her mouth.
Eryx didn’t look the least bit guilty. If anything, he almost seemed amused by her reaction. "You sound surprised," he drawled.
"Surprised?!" she hissed, still frozen in place.
Ignoring her, Eryx straightened and walked toward the door. When he pulled it open, a little girl stood there, her round eyes blinking up at him. She had soft curls framing her chubby cheeks, and her tiny hands clutched the fabric of her dress.
And beside the little girl, smirking like she had just caused the greatest chaos, stood Naomi.
"You—" Eryx gritted his teeth in frustration, realizing that Naomi had used his daughter to interrupt their moment.
Lunara rushed to the door but froze when she saw the tiny, adorable girl. What truly caught her attention, though, were the child’s deep, piercing eyes, the eyes that looked exactly like Eryx’s.
"So, you have a daughter?" she asked, her voice laced with surprise.
Eryx met her gaze with an unreadable expression. "And what about it? Can’t handle a man who has a daughter?"
Lunara rolled her eyes, "That’s not it. I don’t care since I won’t have anything to do with you anymore starting today." She said, trying to walk past everyone.
"Where do you think you are going?" Eryx’s cold eyes that she didn’t see since earlier, seemed to be back. He held onto her wrist and looked at her without a word for a few seconds before shifting towards Naomi, "I don’t want to use my ’card’ one more time, but let me talk to my wife peacefully for at least one hour."
Naomi raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "Oh? Using your ’card’ again? Should I be scared?"
Eryx shot her a warning glance before focusing back on Lunara, his grip firm but still gentle. "You owe me at least that much," he said, his voice low.
"Nope, I don’t want to sacrifice my best friend just to hide my secret. Go on, tell mom. I am not a coward like you." Naomi said, mocking with all her expression.
Eryx’s jaw tightened, his patience visibly thinning. "Naomi," he warned, his tone sharp.
Naomi smirked, crossing her arms. "What? You think I’m scared of you? No, Eryx. You’re the one who’s scared... scared of yourself. You act like you’re doing everything for everyone else, but the truth is, you’re just protecting yourself."
Eryx’s sharp eyes darkened, his glare cutting through her. "And is it wrong to protect myself?"
Naomi fell silent. She wanted to argue, to throw another jab, but she couldn’t. Because he wasn’t wrong.
Eryx had endured everything alone.
His entire life had been a battle against control of his mother’s suffocating influence, the expectations forced upon him, the tragic loss that shattered whatever innocence he had left. He had spent years building walls so high that even he had forgotten what it felt like to let someone in.
And yet, here he was, holding onto Lunara’s wrist like she was the only thing keeping him from falling apart.
"Fine! I’m sorry." Naomi sighed, looking down on the floor as guilt crowded in. "I didn’t mean to sound that harsh but Lunara, she had been through so much. I just don’t want you to use her to go against mom."
Eryx’s grip on Lunara loosened slightly, but his expression remained unreadable. "Use her?" he repeated, his voice colder now. "You think I would drag her into my problems just to spite mom?"
Naomi looked up, hesitation flickering in her eyes. "Wouldn’t you?" she challenged, though her tone lacked the sharpness from before. "You push people away, Eryx. And when you do let them in, it’s always on your terms."
Lunara, who had been silent, finally pulled her wrist free. "I don’t need anyone deciding things for me," she said, her voice firm. "Not you, Naomi. And definitely not you, Mr. Grantham." She took a deep breath before continuing, "Now, if you can please, let me go?"
Eryx’s eyes darkened at the way she addressed him. His fingers twitched, but after a moment, he let his hand drop to his side.
"Fine," he said, his voice unreadable.
Lunara took a step back, steadying herself. But before she could walk away, a tiny voice called out.
"Mommy."
