My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back
Chapter 193: My Husband Died

Chapter 193: My Husband Died

Their heavy breaths echoed in the tight space of the car. Eryx pulled away just enough for air to pass between them, but his hands remained firm on her waist. Lunara blinked up at him, dazed and warm, the tipsiness still clouding her gaze but she could see him clearly.

Her lips parted slightly as she gasped for air, then slowly, unconsciously, she ran the tip of her tongue across her dry bottom lip.

Eryx’s eyes darkened. He stiffened, his throat bobbing as he swallowed hard.

"Don’t do that," he murmured, his voice low and strained.

"Hm?" Lunara tilted her head, resting her hands against his chest. "Do what?"

He clenched his jaw. "That thing with your lips. You’re not helping."

"I’m just thirsty..." she mumbled, trying to stand up from his lap.

But Eryx pulled her right back down, his arm tight around her waist. "Stay."

With his other hand, he flipped open the armrest and retrieved a bottle of mineral water. He twisted off the cap with a crack and held it out to her. "Here."

Lunara took it with both hands and drank, her throat working with each sip. She didn’t realize he was leaning closer until she felt the warmth of his breath near her neck.

"Ah—" she flinched, startled by the sudden contact.

The bottle tipped in her grip, and cool water splashed down her chin and onto his shirt.

Eryx flinched at the cold. "Lunara—"

She blinked at him, wide-eyed and slow, like her brain needed extra time to process what just happened. Then her brows furrowed, and she looked at him as if he’d just committed a serious crime against her very soul.

"Sneaky brat," she muttered, squinting at him like she was furious—though to Eryx, she just looked unbearably adorable.

"What?" He chuckled. "You’re the one who splashed the water..."

He leaned in and gently wiped the stray droplets from her chin with his thumb, his smile softening. "Still blaming me for everything, huh?"

Lunara rolled her eyes, trying to wriggle off his lap again, but he tightened his arms around her, refusing to let her go.

"No," he murmured, pulling her closer into his chest. "Let’s stay like this... just for a moment longer."

She felt him rest his head on her shoulder, his voice low and honest. "I really, really miss you."

But instead of the soft reply he was hoping for, Lunara reached up with both hands, held his face between her palms, and pouted.

"I am not," she declared.

"Why?" Eryx asked softly. Her answer stung, but he still smiled, although it didn’t quite reach his eyes. "Are you angry at me for not contacting you?"

Lunara stared at him for a moment, like she was trying to remember if she was angry. Then, with an exaggerated frown, she poked his chest with her finger.

"You disappeared," she mumbled. "Poof. Like magic."

He caught her hand gently, threading his fingers through hers. "I didn’t mean to vanish. I just... thought you didn’t want to see me."

She leaned in, eyes narrowed in a tipsy squint. "You’re not very smart for a genius businessman."

He chuckled under his breath. "Yeah. That’s probably true."

"So...!" Her voice suddenly rose, sharp and dramatic. "I’ve decided to walk a—"

She didn’t get to finish.

Eryx kissed her.

It wasn’t soft. It wasn’t tentative. It was immediate, firm, almost desperate, like he already knew the rest of her sentence, and he refused to let it exist.

Caught off guard, Lunara tried to pull away, her brows scrunching as her hands pressed against his chest. But he didn’t let go.

So she bit him.

Eryx winced in pain, immediately letting her lips go. "Where did you learn to bite?"

Lunara narrowed her eyes, swaying slightly as she lifted her chin. "Since my husband died," she said with a slow, sarcastic drawl, pressing the back of her hand to her forehead like a dramatic widow in an old film. "May his annoying soul rest in peace."

Eryx blinked. "I’m right here."

"Oh?" She gasped in mock surprise, eyes wide. "Then who have I been mourning all this time?"

He groaned and let his head fall back against the seat, muttering, "She’s taking revenge."

"Dead husband says what?" she said sweetly, poking his shoulder.

"Stop calling me dead, Lunara."

"Well, stop stealing kisses from the widow," she countered with a proud little smirk.

Eryx didn’t smile. He didn’t tease. He was just looking at her with something unreadable in his eyes.

"Are you really okay... if I’m really dead?" he asked, his voice quiet but firm.

The car suddenly felt too still. The playful haze between them lifted just slightly, like a curtain being tugged open.

Lunara tilted her head, staring at him for a second, then squinted. "Ah, you are not fun."

"I’m serious," he said, his fingers tightening slightly around her waist. "You said it like it didn’t matter. Like losing me wouldn’t mean anything."

She paused. Her lips parted but no words came out right away. Then finally, with a tiny shrug, she muttered, "People die all the time."

"Lunara." His tone dropped, deep and low. "Don’t do that."

Her eyes flickered to his and lingered there, a brief glimmer of emotion surfacing before she looked away.

"You left me first," she whispered. "Whatever..."

For the third time, she tried to escape his hold, but this time, Eryx swiftly lifted her and flipped their positions.

At that moment, her eyes widened. The drunken haze began to fade the instant she saw the seriousness in his eyes as he stared down at her.

"Mr. Eryx, it’s too cramped here. Can you move away?" she said, pushing against him a little too hard. He hit the steering wheel behind him with a light thud.

But he didn’t flinch.

Instead, he leaned in closer, his voice low and rough. "Do you know how hard it was not to call you?"

Lunara’s breath caught, her hands still against his chest, unsure whether to push him again or pull him closer. He brushed his fingers along her jaw, eyes locked on hers like he was memorizing every inch of her face.

"Tell me to stop," he said, lips hovering just above hers.

She didn’t.

And in that hesitation, he closed the distance, kissing her again but this time slower and deeper.

As the night started to go silent, inside, everything was about to explode.

Lunara’s fingers tightened around the fabric of his shirt, her breath caught somewhere between surrender and confusion. She wasn’t sure if it was the alcohol or the way he kissed her but her body responded before her mind could argue.

He deepened the kiss, one hand slipping behind her neck, the other trailing down her side, possessively.

Just when she thought she’d melt into him completely, he pulled back, barely, his lips brushing against hers as he whispered, "If I go any further, I won’t stop."

Her eyes fluttered open, dazed. "Then don’t."

And that’s when Eryx snapped the seat down, flattening it beneath them in one swift motion.

Lunara gasped, clutching his shoulders as the sudden shift sent them both sliding slightly. His body hovered over hers, his gaze dark and unrelenting.

And that’s how their night blurred, between heated kisses, tangled breaths, and the kind of silence that said everything they weren’t ready to admit.

Outside, the city slept.

Inside, neither of them did.
