My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back
Chapter 119: A Step To Know You

Chapter 119: A Step To Know You

Lunara stood in front of her mother’s tomb. It had been a month since Lilith passed away. Her eyes lingered on the carved letters of her name, but her mind felt strangely blank.

Not much had changed since the day her mother left. She’d become someone who spoke only when necessary, retreating into a quiet world of her own.

A few steps behind her, Eryx waited in silence, never pushing, just staying close.

The wind sighed, tugging at the hem of Lunara’s coat, but still she stood, unmoving, as if time meant nothing here.

"I’ll come again, Mom," she suddenly broke the silence, her voice low. Then, without glancing back, she turned to leave.

She walked past Eryx without a word.

He didn’t call out, didn’t follow too closely. He simply waited a beat, then trailed after her with measured steps, keeping the distance she hadn’t voiced but clearly needed.

When they reached the car, he opened the door for her. Lunara paused, not looking at him, then slipped in with a quiet, "Thank you," barely above a breath.

It was the first thing she’d said to him since that morning.

Eryx closed the door gently, then circled to the driver’s side and got in. The ride back was cloaked in silence. Not cold, but perhaps careful. Two people balancing grief, guilt, and a relationship too bruised to speak freely yet.

"Do you want to get some lunch?" Eryx asked, eyes fixed on the road. Naomi had mentioned this morning that Lunara wasn’t feeling well. He didn’t want to press, but if there was even the slightest chance she was craving something like dessert, comfort or anything, he wanted to be the one to offer it.

Lunara shook her head, still staring out the window. Her fingers fidgeted in her lap before she slowly picked up her phone and opened it, more out of habit than interest.

She scrolled slowly, not really paying attention, until a short video caught her eye, thick chocolate oozing from a warm tart, melting slowly under a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Her mouth felt dry. Would it be shameless to ask him for that? Especially after saying no just now?

She locked her phone without a word and leaned her head against the window.

Eryx didn’t look at her directly, but his hands tightened just slightly around the steering wheel. After a moment, his voice came again, shaky, almost like he wasn’t sure if he should ask. "Would you like something sweet instead?"

Lunara didn’t reply right away.

He continued, "There’s a place nearby. I’ll take you there, if that’s alright."

This time, she nodded faintly.

The smallest shift happened on his face, subtle. A flicker of relief, of quiet gratitude. He smiled, not wide, just enough to show that he was happy as if that one nod meant more to him than she realized.

They drove in silence, not as tense as before but still careful, like two people who weren’t sure where they stood.

When Eryx pulled into a small dessert café, Lunara looked at the cozy lights from inside. She remained silent, but she didn’t show any protest either.

He got out first and circled to her side. But he was late, she opened the door before he could, stepping out just as he reached for the handle. Their eyes met briefly. It was awkward, but not cold.

Inside, the café was warm, filled with the scent of sugar and cocoa. They sat near the window, but Lunara didn’t look at the menu. Her gaze went straight to the counter, where the dessert sat behind the glass.

Eryx glanced at her and noticed her focus. "I don’t know what you like," he said, following her gaze. "But... I heard everything here is good."

When she didn’t respond, he immediately stood up and walked to the counter without another word.

When he returned, he placed the warm chocolate tart and vanilla ice cream in front of her, the exact one from the video.

"Is this...the one you stare at?" he said softly. "I’m not sure about the ice cream, but... I remember once, you chose vanilla." A warm smile formed on his lips.

Lunara stared at the chocolate tart for a moment, then at him. She couldn’t lie, she was quite surprised.

She didn’t say thank you but Eryx could see a flicker of excitement in her eyes.

Eryx put the tart in front of her and she just picked up the spoon and took a small bite.

The rich chocolate melted on her tongue, the sweetness cutting through the heaviness in her chest. The vanilla added just enough lightness, and for a moment, she forgot how exhausted she felt.

"This is so good," the words slipped out before she even realized it.

Eryx’s smile widened, not too much, just enough to soften his face. "Glad you like it."

Suddenly, Eryx stood up and headed to the counter once again. Lunara watched him curiously, wondering what he was up to. A few moments later, he returned with a slice of cheesecake, its smooth surface glistening with a raspberry topping.

"I thought... you might like this too," he said, placing the plate in front of her with a hesitant smile.

But she shook her head, "I don’t really like cheesecake."

"Ah, really?" Eryx slowly pulled back the plate as he took the seat, "Then, what kind of dessert do you like?"

Lunara hesitated for a moment, her spoon still resting against the edge of the chocolate tart plate. "Almost everything that’s sweet. It’s not like I won’t eat cheesecake, but... I just don’t like it much."

Eryx let out a soft chuckle. "Noted."

They sat there a while longer, not saying much. Lunara finished her dessert slowly, savoring each bite. When she was done, she set the spoon down gently and dabbed at her lips with a napkin.

Just as she was about to stand, Eryx moved first. He stepped in front of her and offered his hand. "Let’s go."

His hand hovered in the air between them.

Lunara paused, her gaze falling to it.

’Should I take it?’
