My Cold-Hearted Husband Wants Me Back -
Chapter 110: A Moment Of Weakness
Chapter 110: A Moment Of Weakness
Eryx stood frozen for a beat, water still dripping from his hair. He had just opened the bathroom door, a towel slung low on his hips, steam curling around him like a silent veil. And there Lunara was, standing barefoot in front of the bathroom’s door, her eyes slightly puffy, her expression seemed confused.
"Did you just come back?" she asked quietly. "Did Mila already fall asleep?"
The question hit him like a punch.
Eryx’s hand tightened slightly on the towel at his waist.
Her voice hadn’t cracked, but her eyes, those wide, disoriented eyes were searching his face for an answer that didn’t exist.
He stepped closer, slowly, carefully. "Lunara..."
Eryx stepped forward, closing the gap between them. His voice dropped, gentle and warm. "Hey..." He reached out and softly rubbed her cheek. "Listen... I know you still can’t accept this. But, darling... Mila... She’s already gone to heaven. If you keep grieving like this, it’s going to wear you down."
Lunara’s eyes blinked slowly, dazed. She looked up at him as if trying to process his words, as if waking up from a dream she didn’t want to end.
Her lips trembled. "I really wish she was just asleep."
Eryx’s throat tightened. He gently pulled her into his bare chest, arms wrapping around her carefully. His skin was still damp from the shower, warm against the chill that clung to her like fog.
"I know," he murmured into her hair. "I wish she was too."
She stood there for a moment, frozen against him. Then her breathing shifted, sharp and shallow. One hand clutched at her chest, and the other gripped his arm for balance.
"Eryx..." she gasped, voice breaking. "I... I can’t breathe."
His hold tightened, concern flashing in his eyes. "Lunara... hey... look at me."
She wavered, her legs almost giving out.
Without thinking, he cupped her face with both hands, his towel rustling slightly at his waist. "You’re okay," he whispered, trying to calm her. Then, without giving himself time to think, he leaned down and pressed his lips to hers.
It wasn’t a kiss of romance, it was an act of desperation, grounding. A way to steady her.
She stiffened for a moment, but then slowly... her body started to relax. Her breaths began to steady.
When he finally pulled back, her hands were still on his arms, her eyes wide and wet.
"I’m here," he said quietly. "It’s okay, Lunara."
He leaned in again and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, letting his lips linger just a second longer. When he pulled back, their eyes met, silent.
Lunara’s lower lip trembled as tears slid down her cheeks. "I’m sorry," she whispered, voice cracking. "I’m so sorry..."
Eryx gently shook his head, brushing away one of her tears with his thumb. He didn’t speak. Instead, he leaned forward again, pressing a soft kiss to the corner of her lips.
Then another, closer this time.
She didn’t move away.
Her eyes fluttered shut, and her fingers tightened faintly around his arms, almost like she was holding onto him for air, for warmth, for anything that still made sense.
Only then did he lean in fully, capturing her mouth in a long, deep kiss. It wasn’t rushed. It wasn’t demanding. It was slow, tender, filled with unspoken grief and comfort, the kind that came from two people trying to hold each other together while falling apart.
Her tears didn’t stop. They slid down her cheeks, tracing the curve of her face even as his lips moved gently against hers.
Eryx pulled back just enough to search her eyes, his thumb brushing the tear-streaked skin beneath them. Then, without a word, he gently slid his arms around her waist and pulled her up with him.
"I know this isn’t the right time," he murmured, his voice low but tender. "But... Do you want to take a shower together? Just to freshen up. It might help, clear your head, help you breathe again."
He didn’t push her. His eyes stayed on hers, careful and warm, offering her a moment, not like he wanted her to completely forget, but of slowing down the weight pressing on her chest.
"Let me take care of you, just a little... hmm?" he said softly.
She gave the faintest nod.
Eryx gently shifted her in his arms and slowly turned back into the bathroom, the warm mist still clinging to the air. The sound of water echoed softly, steam curling along the tiles.
He helped her step inside, his fingers carefully pulling back her sleeves. Her movements were slow and slightly uncertain. He worried his actions might be misunderstood, but when he saw how her gaze stayed on him like she was holding on, he didn’t pull away.
When he undid the buttons of her top, she didn’t stop him. She only looked at him, as if still half-dreaming, floating in that space between sorrow and warmth.
Piece by piece, he undressed her, giving her time to breathe. There was nothing rushed in the way he looked at her. No pressure in his touch. Just presence.
Once they were both under the water, the warmth wrapped around them like a blanket. Eryx gently ran his hands over her arms, her shoulders, then up to cradle her face again.
Her skin was damp from the shower, but her tears hadn’t stopped entirely.
"Right here," he whispered, pressing a kiss to her temple. "I’m right here."
She leaned into him, arms wrapping around his waist, her cheek resting against his chest. He let her stay like that, running his hand down her back in slow, calming strokes.
Eryx pulled back slightly and tilted her chin up, his eyes watching her closely. She didn’t flinch. She didn’t look away.
Taking that as his answer, he leaned down and placed a gentle kiss right on the center of her top lip, lingering just long enough to feel her breath.
Eryx didn’t say anything. Instead, he shifted his hold, arms sliding around her waist before one moved lower, wrapping securely beneath her thighs. In one smooth motion, he lifted her, her legs instinctively curling around him as he held her close.
Their faces were now level. He kissed her again, this time on the right corner of her lips. Then, he pulled back just slightly, his fingers gently guiding her chin downward. He trailed kisses along the line of her jaw, slow and gentle, each one testing the space she gave him.
When she didn’t resist, when her fingers gripped lightly at his shoulders, he continued, brushing his lips over the soft skin just below her collarbone. Then lower.
Her breath hitched, and his hold on her tightened.
He paused there, his forehead resting against her chest for a moment, as if grounding himself. "Am I a jerk if I said I want you now?"
There was a pause in the air and her eyes blinked away, for a moment, he thought she might pull away. But instead, she gently tugged at the back of his neck, urging him closer. Her lips, still slightly parted from their earlier kiss, brushed against his ear as she whispered softly, "I... I want this too."
