My Childhood Sweetheart Is a Crazy Beauty -
Chapter 154: Holding Hands
Chapter 154: Chapter 154: Holding Hands
Hu Mingcheng was beaten so badly he almost croaked before they let up on him.
People hoisted him up and hung him on a tree branch, then someone pinched Hu Mingcheng’s face and slapped him twice, forcing him to open his eyes.
"Who the hell are you?"
Hu Mingcheng coughed twice before he felt as if he had come back to life, terrified beyond measure.
In the dim night, a man was smoking, his leather gloves gleaming under the faint streetlights, looking eerily abnormal.
The man exhaled a puff of smoke, "Yang Family!"
It was just three words, but Hu Mingcheng started to struggle, "You’ve got the wrong person, I am Hu Mingcheng, the one who was in contact with you!"
The man chuckled coldly, his laugh devoid of any warmth.
He patted Hu Mingcheng’s face, "We didn’t get it wrong, it’s you we meant to beat! Did you really think you could just sleep with our Yang Family’s little demon and get away with it?"
Hu Mingcheng: ...
He had forgotten this point.
What scared him even more was the man’s gaze moving down to his lower body, "Can’t control your own third leg, huh? Maybe you should have it cut off?"
Hu Mingcheng struggled frantically, "No, it wasn’t like that, it wasn’t me who initiated it, it was Wanqiu who insisted on sleeping with me, I was thinking certainly not before marriage, but that day Wanqiu said she was drugged with some kind of herbal potion!"
The Yang Family allowed him to finish speaking before kicking him in the stomach.
Hu Mingcheng was kicked so hard he almost gasped his last breath, "You expect me to believe that?" the man spat out coldly.
After another round of beating, Hu Mingcheng was left nothing but wailing, and the Yang Family threw their finished cigarette on the ground and snuffed it out before pulling off their gloves and slapping Hu Mingcheng’s face, "Thinking of becoming our Yang Family’s son-in-law? You’re far from qualified!"
Hu Mingcheng vomited blood.
The Yang Family left.
Leaving Hu Mingcheng hanging in the tree branch.
Only after the person vanished for five minutes did someone in the shadows come out.
After making sure Hu Mingcheng wasn’t dead, they too left.
Perhaps they couldn’t bear to watch someone freeze to death in the night, they kicked a gate where a dog was kept and shouted "Thief!" before disappearing.
Gu Beihuai returned home and went to find his father.
"If the Yang Family is so formidable, why would they leave their child at the Tang Family and not care?"
Gu Beihuai was indeed curious, but Father Gu lit a cigarette, "Why? You can’t figure that out?"
Gu Beihuai shook his head.
Father Gu handed him a newspaper, the latest edition, and published in the capital too.
Father Gu pointed to a section for Gu Beihuai to see, it was an announcement for the new mayor of Quan City.
Gu Beihuai didn’t see the new leader, but under the list of new leaders, there was the name of a secretary, surname Yang, name Yingjie!
He looked up sharply at Father Gu, "What is the Yang Family planning?"
Who was Yang Yingjie?
He was Yang Chao’s nephew, and also the default successor of the new generation of the Yang Family.
Yang Chao hadn’t returned yet, but Yang Yingjie had already been arranged to enter the upper echelons of Quan City. If there was no connection, Gu Beihuai simply wouldn’t believe it.
Father Gu nodded, "I suspect the young man you saw today was Yang Yingjie. Since he has acted against Hu Mingcheng, it’s likely he will soon visit the Tang Family. You could remind the Tang Family lads to be a bit more discreet for now and not to fixate on Hu Mingcheng and Tang Wanqiu!"
Gu Beihuai acknowledged the information.
Father Gu’s concern wasn’t without reason.
"Oh, and about the Yang Family matters, it doesn’t have much to do with us, but what about you? What are you thinking exactly?"
Gu Beihuai shook his head, "I haven’t decided yet. If I can’t guarantee my absolute say in matters, I won’t go back. Maybe I should look for something to do or seriously consider going out to make money!"
Father Gu chided with a laugh, always unworried about how his son would get by since he wouldn’t starve anyway. But recalling his wife’s words, he couldn’t help but remind, "Making money isn’t urgent, but you should find a wife first!"
With the New Year approaching, his wife was getting anxious.
Gu Beihuai thought of Tang Chuxia and vaguely acknowledged.
This was the first time his son didn’t vehemently oppose the idea, so Father Gu suspected there was something going on but didn’t pry further.
"You know what you’re doing, but your mom will definitely set you up for some blind dates!"
Father Gu patted his son’s shoulder and went off to rest.
Gu Beihuai sighed; he really didn’t want to look for someone, not because he wasn’t interested in women, but because he dreamed of only one woman lately, and couldn’t fathom why.
They were clearly incompatible, yet why was it always the alluring little demon in his dreams?
Gu Beihuai lay in bed, his mind filled with the way Tang Chuxia had looked in his room yesterday, his gaze unintentionally sweeping over the bedsheet hanging in the room before pulling the blanket over his head.
He had entered into a dream again last night.
He hoped it wouldn’t happen tonight; otherwise, he’d soon struggle to differentiate dreams from reality.
This night was restless for Gu Beihuai, as it was for many others.
Like Dangdang and Wu Haipeng, who were shoulder to shoulder, walking back from the cinema.
"You don’t have to walk me home!"
Dangdang cocked her head to glance at Wu Haipeng, her face blushing furiously, thankful that the scarf concealed most of it.
Wu Haipeng couldn’t help but grin foolishly at the petite woman brushing against his shoulder.
"I’m walking you home, definitely!"
It would be foolish not to seize such a good opportunity!
Dangdang was not as tall as Wu Haipeng’s chin, and with a tilt of his head, he could see her three large hair buns; he hurriedly pinched his nose, genuinely afraid of a nosebleed.
Dangdang was clueless about how tempting she appeared to Wu Haipeng, wondering if she was being too shy.
She recalled what Tang Chuxia had told her, ’Strike when the iron is hot,’ and tentatively poked out a little finger.
After several attempts, she still didn’t reach out.
A girl needed to remain reserved, after all.
Wu Haipeng was preoccupied with the bouncing hair buns on Dangdang’s head and totally missed her subtle gesture.
Both of them walked the entire way, each caught up in their own rich inner dramas, arriving at the courtyard without taking any action.
As they turned into Hu’s alley, they almost collided with someone, and Wu Haipeng quickly shielded Dangdang in his arms, yelling at the person who had almost hit them, "What, chased by a ghost in the dead of night?"
The person glanced at Wu Haipeng, tugged his hat down, and vanished into the night.
Wu Haipeng watched the retreating figure, frowning, feeling something was off.
Before he could ponder what exactly was amiss, he realized he was still holding someone in his arms.
"You can let go now!"
Dangdang’s voice was quite soft, and Wu Haipeng quickly released her.
"Were you hit?" he asked eagerly, and Dangdang shook her head, "I’m fine, don’t worry!"
Wu Haipeng grunted and grabbed Dangdang’s hand, not really letting go, and came up with a perfectly reasonable excuse, "I’ve got you covered, in case another reckless ghost comes along!"
Dangdang’s face flushed with embarrassment, and she hummed in agreement.
She inwardly rejoiced, finally holding hands.
If they didn’t hold hands, her fingers would freeze stiff.
As she considered going for an intertwined fingers hold, Wu Haipeng pulled her into his embrace once more.
Dangdang was so thrilled she thought she might take flight.
"Brother Haipeng, aren’t we moving a bit fast?"
