My Childhood Sweetheart Is a Crazy Beauty -
Chapter 127 Favorite
Chapter 127: Chapter 127 Favorite
Gu Beihuai definitely couldn’t get a good night’s rest this evening, and still had to go over to his uncle’s place. He wasn’t worried about Jin Haidong’s situation, but he needed to report on things.
Wu Haipeng’s leg didn’t seem to have a major problem, but he couldn’t overexert it. Gu Beihuai told him to go back and rest.
Only Gu Beihuai and his uncle knew what was said between them, but by morning, Gu Beihuai came out with a frosty face.
There was no time to rest, he washed his face and rushed to the hospital, where Wu Haipeng and the other brothers were already waiting outside the operating room, and Qin Zhan was trembling.
He took Qin Zhan outside for a smoke to ease his nerves, and he needed to perk up as well.
"Brother Huai, I only have my mom left!"
Qin Zhan’s tears started to flow.
His father had been away for years, and Qin Zhan was raised by his mother alone, so he cared for her deeply. The chances of success in this surgery were low, but rather than facing immediate death, he chose to proceed with it.
Needless to say, the psychological pressure was immense.
Gu Beihuai patted his shoulder, "I understand!"
For these men, who doesn’t live with their lives on the line, it’s their family that keeps them going.
Qin Zhan smoked another cigarette, and Gu Beihuai didn’t stop him.
Usually, he kept a check on them, but at moments like this, he couldn’t help but let go.
They smoked half a pack, and Qin Zhan’s shaking began to subside while Gu Beihuai also regained some spirit.
"I heard from Haipeng that you lost control last night?"
Qin Zhan was the most meticulous in their team, always catching details others overlooked to provide them with leads.
Gu Beihuai nodded, "That Tomb Guardian looks a lot like the groundhog!"
Qin Zhan paused, then smirked bitterly, "The groundhog is dead!"
Gu Beihuai said nothing.
"The groundhog deserved to die, but he had his reasons. Besides, that Tomb Guardian must have his own reasons too. You don’t need to stay stuck like this, your brothers are still alive!"
Qin Zhan patted Gu Beihuai’s shoulder, knowing he had a knot in his heart, so severe that he was considering not returning from this leave.
Who was the groundhog?
Gu Beihuai didn’t want to remember, but Qin Zhan knew if it weren’t for the groundhog’s betrayal and misleading, Gu Beihuai wouldn’t have suspected him at all, and the mission wouldn’t have been compromised.
The last mission had heavy casualties, and the groundhog bore a lot of responsibility.
But... the groundhog was dead now.
His family suffered as well!
When a person dies, all grievances are extinguished.
"Yeah, still alive!"
Being alive is even more painful.

The next day, when Tang Chuxia woke up, she overheard Tang Jianjun talking about Qin Zhan’s mother’s surgery today.
They all grew up together, and even though the original host and Gu Beihuai didn’t get along, there were no grievances with Qin Zhan and Wu Haipeng—often, they’d speak well of the original host to pacify Gu Beihuai.
"Should we go and take a look as well?"
Tang Chuxia suggested after some thought, while Tang Jianjun gnawed on a dough stick, pointing at the things on the table.
"Everything’s ready, we’ll go after breakfast!"
Madam Tang told them that Qin Zhan’s mother might be in a dangerous situation this time, so to check the situation first and be careful with their words.
Tang Chuxia and Tang Jianjun, having nothing to do, took the items and headed to the hospital. On the way, Tang Jianjun asked about Tang Wanqiu.
"I always feel something’s wrong with Tang Wanqiu’s head!"
Tang Jianjun sighed, "Even though we don’t have much feeling for her, we see each other a few times a year. I didn’t know she wasn’t born of our mom before, but now she’s changed so much?"
Tang Chuxia looked her older brother up and down.
"Second brother, go talk to Bai Yingyue more often!"
Tang Jianjun didn’t understand, looking quite inquisitive.
"Bai Yingyue’s an actress, she understands people well, she’s a good teacher!"
Tang Chuxia thought she’d made her point clear, but Tang Jianjun still looked puzzled, "What’s it got to do with Bai Yingyue?"
Tang Chuxia held her forehead.
"Second brother, are you pretending to be dumb?"
"No way, Xiaxia, what are you trying to say?"
Tang Jianjun felt a bit mentally inadequate, why else would his sister speak to him like this?
"I think your emotional intelligence is concerning, you can’t even analyze such simple things, how have you lived up till now?"
Tang Jianjun: ...
He sensed Tang Chuxia was definitely mocking him.
Tang Jianjun tried to mess with Tang Chuxia, but then he heard her say, "Tang Wanqiu was taken by our grandparents since childhood, though it was convenient to care for me due to my poor health, you four didn’t leave either. Besides, our grandparents surely resented us, and if I’m not wrong, mom must have said some harsh words back then!"
It could be understood, Tang Jianjun nodded.
"Big brother mentioned it, mom had no choice but to acknowledge Tang Wanqiu after being pressured by dad and our grandparents, but mom couldn’t understand why they protected Tang Wanqiu too. She resented them for a long time, even after they died, she didn’t understand why!"
Not only Tang Jianjun, even Tang Chuxia was curious about what their grandparents were thinking back then.
Could it be that Wen Wenqing saved their grandparents’ lives?
Otherwise, why abandon their real grandchild to raise someone else’s child?
Tang Chuxia suddenly had a flash of inspiration, "Second brother, is it possible that dad isn’t our grandparents’ biological child, but Wen Wenqing is?"
Her wild idea earned her a smack from her brother.
"What nonsense!"
Tang Chuxia stuck out her tongue, wasn’t it just a bold hypothesis to be followed by careful verification!
How come he hit her?
Not gentlemanly at all.
When they arrived at the hospital, they just caught sight of Gu Beihuai and Qin Zhan who had finished smoking. The four of them noticed each other, and Tang Chuxia grinned brightly, addressing Gu Beihuai, "Brother Beihuai, you’re here too!!"
Gu Beihuai felt his ears start to burn again, but he was wearing a hat so it wasn’t visible.
Tang Jianjun greeted Qin Zhan, and they walked together talking, while Tang Chuxia walked with Gu Beihuai behind them.
"Why are you ignoring me?"
She wasn’t playful but asked in a lowered voice.
Gu Beihuai glanced at her, "I’m not!"
The terse reply elicited a "tsk" from her.
After a long silence from Tang Chuxia, Gu Beihuai turned to look at her, and saw her gaze fixed not far ahead, where stood a girl she vaguely remembered.
"Brother Beihuai, impressive yeah!"
Tang Chuxia’s voice held a bit of gritted teeth.
Gu Beihuai: ...
Following her gaze, he saw the girl standing not far away talking to Wu Haipeng.
"No wonder my flirting went nowhere, you’ve got a sweetheart!"
Tang Chuxia finished with a cold laugh, not giving Gu Beihuai a chance to speak, she caught up with Tang Jianjun, coming up to the girl, "Brother Haipeng, care to introduce us?"
The girl glanced at Tang Chuxia, recalling that she was the one looking for Gu Beihuai that day.
"Hello, comrade, I am Gu Beihuai’s..."
