My Childhood Sweetheart Is a Crazy Beauty -
Chapter 106: His Fault Again?
Chapter 106: Chapter 106: His Fault Again?
"Brother, don’t make a mistake!!!"
Tang Chuxia urgently warned, rushing to Tang Chuxia’s side, suddenly throwing herself on top of Tang Chuxia, shielding her with her body, and turned her head to accuse Gu Beihuai.
"Isn’t it just a few embarrassing moments caused by Xiaxia? Brother, you’re being too petty, right? Taking advantage of nobody watching and you actually want to harm Xiaxia, where’s your conscience?"
She rattled off happily, but Gu Beihuai was fuming with anger.
"Gu Nanzhi, get up!"
He had seen that Tang Chuxia was showing a pained expression, guessing that the sudden pounce by Gu Nanzhi had indeed affected Tang Chuxia.
Thinking about it, it made sense; considering Tang Chuxia’s muscle spasms, it would be strange if a touch did not hurt.
But the more serious Gu Beihuai’s expression became, the more Gu Nanzhi believed her brother was being unreasonable.
"Brother, can’t you understand? Xiaxia isn’t your wife; you can’t just harm her as you please!"
After she finished speaking, she paused and then spit several times, "Damn my big mouth, how could Xiaxia become your wife!"
Realizing that wasn’t right, she slapped her own mouth, "Stupid mouth!"
"No, what’s wrong is you laying hands on Xiaxia!"
Finally saying it correctly, Zheng Duoqing, standing nearby, let out a long breath of relief. Dealing with someone whose mouth runs faster than their brain could be fatal.
He felt his lung capacity was insufficient, probably unable to withstand Gu Nanzhi’s bluntness.
Gu Beihuai couldn’t stand Gu Nanzhi’s nonsense either, and lifted his hand to pinch her mouth, manually silencing her.
"Gu Nanzhi, have I not disciplined you recently? Have you forgotten my temper?" Gu Beihuai warned in a cold voice.
Gu Nanzhi whimpered without making a comprehensible sound; furiously glaring at her big brother.
Gu Beihuai wasn’t afraid of her like this; his pinching made Gu Nanzhi’s lips somewhat swollen.
"Get lost!"
He released his hand, and Gu Nanzhi cowered.
In the face of absolute strength, Gu Nanzhi was very self-aware; she could see that Gu Beihuai was truly getting angry.
Zheng Duoqing, standing to the side, had a smile plastered on his face, ingratiating as could be; in front of Gu Beihuai, he was nothing but a pushover.
Gu Beihuai pointed to Tang Chuxia and explained to Gu Nanzhi, "Are you blind? Can’t you see she’s having severe muscle spasms and sweating from the pain? If I wanted to strangle her, would I be so despicable?"
Gu Nanzhi leaned in for a look, and saw Tang Chuxia’s face was painfully pale; she was clearly asleep, so why was she in such agony?
"She isn’t just sleeping; she has passed out from the pain, and her body is still convulsing."
Gu Nanzhi leaned over to lift Tang Chuxia’s arm and, seeing the condition of her arm, felt so heartbroken that tears fell.
"Brother, what happened here? How could such an incident befall Xiaxia?"
Gu Beihuai didn’t bother to respond, instead asking Zheng Duoqing, "How did you come together?"
"We ran into each other at the hospital entrance!"
Gu Beihuai nodded, acknowledging that Zheng Duoqing wasn’t the lying sort, and tossed a towel to Gu Nanzhi, "Wipe her sweat; I’ll step out for a moment!"
After he spoke, he signaled for Zheng Duoqing to follow him out.
Not until they reached the small garden behind the inpatient department did Gu Beihuai speak up, "I remember Aunt Zheng once mentioned that it was an old Taoist who sealed Tang Chuxia’s Divine Power. Do you know who that old Taoist is?"
Zheng Duoqing was stumped by his question.
He did actually know something about the old Taoist, but he had only overheard it when his grandmother casually talked about it with his parents.
"I only know that the old Taoist had some connections with Lin Qingchen’s master, but beyond that, I’m not clear. Moreover, that old Taoist hasn’t been seen for many years. Lin Qingchen used to say that the old Taoist enjoyed traveling around the world!"
Zheng Duoqing finished speaking, and Gu Beihuai gave a noncommittal grunt.
That was all he knew as well.
It seemed like Zheng Duoqing didn’t know much.
He could rely on his own strength to search.
"Brother Huai, does my cousin really need the old Taoist to get better?" He had just seen Tang Chuxia’s condition and could hardly bear the pain he felt from just one glance.
"I’m not sure, but the doctors don’t have a solution, they can’t even alleviate her pain!"
This was where Gu Beihuai felt rather frustrated.
If the doctors were of no use, what was the point of staying in the hospital?
Zheng Duoqing slapped his thigh: "Then I’ll go find Lin Qingchen. Although that little Taoist isn’t very powerful, he’s still a Taoist after all. Maybe he’ll have a solution."
Without waiting for Gu Beihuai to respond, Zheng Duoqing dashed off.
He, too, hoped his cousin would recover soon.
Gu Beihuai pinched the bridge of his nose and returned to reality, where Gu Nanzhi was still nagging on and on, mostly badmouthing him.
He suspected they must have been enemies in a past life because even as siblings in this one they couldn’t get along.
He didn’t go back inside, but instead headed to the director’s office.
"Why did you come here, kid?" His uncle teased him and gestured for him to take a seat.
Gu Beihuai glanced at the files that the director was frowning over and caught a glimpse of the information in just one look.
"Submitting applications again?"
His uncle dropped his pen, looking exasperated, "Exactly! Look how much the number of patients has increased, yet the production of medicine can’t keep up. I suggest buying some Western medicine, but they just won’t approve it!"
Being the director was distressing. Gu Beihuai remembered it wasn’t that they wouldn’t approve it; there was no way they could, given the current economic sanctions by other countries. Resources were in short supply; things had improved slightly after establishing relations with France a few years earlier, but it was still tough to meet demands.
His uncle needed supplies, and Gu Beihuai had seen at a glance many items on the list that were very difficult to obtain.
They had taken on similar missions, relying on transporting them back from Hong Kong, but the quantities were limited. If they were any larger, it would be easy to get caught.
So difficult!
The country was struggling!
The people were suffering!
So he had undertaken a mission in a time of crisis. And the result?
Their team members had either been killed or maimed, and even those without injuries were severely hurt. He had also returned with injuries to recuperate.
"Let’s not talk about this. Did you come here because your conscience struck? Do you feel sorry about threatening me earlier?" His uncle was in good spirits and joked with him.
Gu Beihuai snorted, clearly conveying his thoughts without needing to speak.
His uncle chuckled but then his smile faded: "Are you really thinking of helping that Tang girl?"
Gu Beihuai neither nodded nor shook his head, just looked at his uncle.
His uncle sighed: "That child has a hard life!" When she was admitted to the hospital, he had been informed of Tang Chuxia’s situation and had reviewed all her medical records, deeply moved.
If she were an ordinary person, she probably would have given up and ended her life by now.
"You, my boy, are heartless!" his uncle suddenly bellowed.
Gu Beihuai raised an eyebrow in retort: "And how am I being heartless now?"
His uncle huffed: "Look at how miserable the poor girl is, and yet you’re still making her life difficult. How could you be so cruel to a young girl every day?"
Gu Beihuai: ...Exhausting!
