Chapter 67: Her Parents’ Inspiring Story

(Karsten)

She can’t be serious but her expressions said she was. My lips flatlined as I stared at her and the shorts she held in disbelief and asked.

"Don’t you have anything else?"

She innocently blinked at me but there was nothing innocent about the mischievous expressions she held.

"I do, but they won’t fit you. It’s just for the night, not like you have to wear it to the office. They are pretty comfortable."

With a hefty snort, I snatched them from her hand and closed the door. I swear I saw her snickering as she turned around.

Shedding my clothes, I picked up the shorts she had lent me. The fabric was soft and stretchy; they smelled nice, they smelled like it, her.

Pulling them on, I adjusted them against my waist and they snugly fit. Drawing the drawstrings, I fastened them and slipped into the comfy bed with a frilled bedspread.

I felt like a frowning Disney Princess.

Everything in her apartment screamed girlish and smelled like flowers.

Taking out my phone, I sent instructions to Olphi to bring my car in the morning along with a fresh pair of clothes. I also instructed him to install new cameras in the parking lot so every inch was visible.

Taking out the folded note, I read it again and wondered if the real blood had been used to write it.

The writing, although seemed shaky, had been penned down with a very steady hand and had been articulated to look scarier.

After going through the note, I decided to run a search about Arata’s parents.

With how disturbed Arata had seemed and the way she had stopped herself from revealing anything about her parents, I knew there had to be some dark history attached to them.

Searching through some articles, I was baffled to learn the secrets behind Zyair Kincaid. From a forced pornstar and male escort to the CEO of the most successful clothing brand in Angel City. The man was a legend in himself.

Not only that, his wife Skyla Adam, now Skyla Zyair, had a very unique life story as well. From an abusive relationship, she had emerged to become not only a successful businesswoman but had earned herself a name as a writer and philanthropist as well. She ran an organisation which rescued women in abusive relationships.

That must have been the organisation she asked me to donate to. I decided to anonymously donate more money in the future.

The more I read about Skyla’s parents, the more my respect for them doubled and I wondered why I had not collaborated with them until now or learnt more about their story before.

No wonder they had raised a strong, beautiful daughter who knew how to make her own decisions and take a stand for herself. She wasn’t even as spoiled as a rich girl of her status would be.

I was still reading their story from the old newspaper articles—the time when newspapers used to be a thing. Now everything has been digitalised.

The vibration of my phone alerted me that my secret account of "Twisted Rider" had received a message, and I knew in my bones that it was from Arata.

I was using a secure app for that account and had disabled pop-up messages so no one would even accidentally read them.

Putting in my password, I opened the app and clicked on the message icon and there sat her name on top, amidst thousands of messages I had received. I had never opened any other messages apart from a few women who I had invited in the past, but I had never furthered conversation with anyone.

I clicked on her message and read it. {Hey! Are you available?}

My thumbs quickly typed back.

{I am here. How have you been, Phoenix?} I hit send and reduced the volume to mute so no sound from my cell phone could be heard. But I heard a faint ding coming from her room as my message was delivered.

I smiled to myself and waited patiently to see what she would write back. The three dots appeared, meaning she was typing. I had purposely dedicated a video to her last time and knew she must have loved it.

{I had a rough day...} Her message flashed on my screen.

I quickly typed back.

{Talk to me. What’s wrong?} I wanted to see if she would trust me enough to speak about the note.

{Firstly, my boss reprimanded me because I was slightly late saying goodbye to my parents. I don’t understand his mood swings, they are worse than a teenager going through puberty.}

Phew!

Ouch!

Arata never held back but I kind of enjoyed having these insights about me from her. I got these unfiltered views where she didn’t hold back.

{Why are all the bosses the same? Are you sure he is not a teenager? (^_ °)} I sent a winking emoji with it.

I heard her giggle through the wall; they didn’t seem very thick and I couldn’t hold back my own smile. At least I made her laugh, one way or the other.

{He is not a teenager; he just acts like one at times. By the way, he is staying at my apartment today; something happened, and he totally acted like a gentleman. Brought me home and offered to stay so I felt safe.}

{Woah! Really??? That’s nice of him to do. So is he sleeping on the couch?} I asked, excitement spreading through me to see what she would reveal.

{No, I offered him the guest room and also my favourite strawberry-themed shorts.}

So these were her favourite shorts. I glanced at the purple material stretched so tight against my skin and had to stifle a laugh. My member was straining against it.

No woman had made me do what this creature had accomplished. A part of me wished to keep them just to rile her up. She looked cute when her cheeks puffed.

{You did what? Don’t tell me he accepted and wore them.} I typed back, hoping she would smile reading it again.

{I am not sure but he did accept them. Not that he is going to show me.}

If she saw me like that, I knew she would never stop laughing.

{Valid. So what else happened if you would like to share?} I was testing her now, wanting to see how much she would reveal to me.

This time, she took her time replying, and I couldn’t help but stare at my screen in anticipation. Her message finally came through.

{Someone tried to scare me at my workplace by sending me a threatening note. My parents have a lot of enemies and people have tried to hurt us in the past. I think it’s related to that. I can’t talk about it with my family or friends. They will get extremely worried and I don’t want to worry them. But my boss knows and now you do.}

I liked how she trusted me but also didn’t reveal anything about where she worked or who her family was. She found someone to speak with, and at the same time, she kept her confidentiality, and I wasn’t going to probe her. That was the only way to make her keep trusting me.
