Chapter 34: Breakfast at the Village.

Rashin and Eri settled down at the dining table, where Seriphina was also seated.

On the wall was a large image of Seriphina during her younger days, and even then, her face was covered. A long table stood at the back, filled with various expensive materials and artifacts.

The room wasn’t big, and it wasn’t small either.

After their brief discussion outside the mansion, they followed Seriphina back to her mansion, where she led them to the dining room.

Apparently, she was the village chief. Lagona Village was considered one of the biggest in the whole nation due to the fact that it was formerly owned by a Baron.

This was pretty convenient for the people who lived there, as they all loved Seriphina with unwavering loyalty.

Seated close to Rashin, Eri couldn’t help but look around the room nervously, trying to make sure there was no one in the area planning to ambush them.

Seriphina caught on.

"If you’re worried about my people doing anything, I assure you they won’t. I already made it clear that no one is to get close to my mansion until you are gone," she uttered calmly.

Eri glared. "Who’s to say you’re not just lying to get us to drop our guard? Your people have tried to attack us out of nowhere before."

"I should point out that you snuck into my village first. I do believe that is trespassing," Seriphina replied.

Eri was dumbfounded.

"And besides, your handsome friend doesn’t seem to mind. Does he?"

They both looked at Rashin.

"I don’t think she means any harm, at least not right now."

That was Rashin’s response.

Truthfully, he hadn’t been paying attention to anything they had been saying. His mind was occupied by something else—two things, to be exact.

One was the fact that he still hadn’t figured out why he wasn’t able to use his white cell aura when being touched by Rouga. The second was the urge to try out the (Playground) feature the system had given him.

It was like his body was itching to try it out.

"As you’ve heard, your friend does not mind it. I think you should too. If I indeed wanted to try something, I would have already," Seriphina jested.

This not only made Eri feel a bit irritated but also relieved.

She knew better than to dismiss Rashin’s judgment.

’He did say for now. Does that mean we should still keep our guard up?’ she thought to herself as she gently pressed her forehead against the table.

Silence took over the entire place for a while.

And then, two maids walked into the dining room.

"Breakfast is ready," they announced.

One by one, they began placing the food on the table for the guests.

For a small village, it didn’t seem like they were lacking anything.

The food was five-star at best—grilled meat, cheesecake, wine—the table was filled with so many delicacies.

Eri, who had only been stuffing her stomach with roasted meat, could not help but drool.

Rashin was not far from doing the same.

’It’s been a while since I’ve seen food this good,’ he thought to himself.

Seriphina was most definitely satisfied with the reaction she saw.

"I’m glad to see you are as eager as I am. Please, eat as much as you want. This is a thank-you for saving my people."

Eri immediately clapped her hands excitedly. "Don’t mind if I do."

Before she could take a bite, Rashin held her hand.

"Hold on, Priestess," he said in a quiet voice.

Eri stopped, though she was confused as to why Rashin would create a rift between her and the sexy drumstick in front of her very eyes.

[Appraisal.]

Rashin used his skill on the food, which turned out to be safe for eating and not poisoned or corrupted with any type of spell.

It was weird to begin with that Seriphina offered them food, he was only being cautious.

"Sorry, you may continue." He released her hand.

"What’s up with you? You good?" Eri asked as she stuck the meat into her mouth while looking at him.

"I wanted to make sure it was safe. You always told me to be careful, no?" He smiled at her.

"You can think about that even though there’s so much food in front of us? I’m impressed." Eri kept stuffing her mouth with the grilled meats.

"Should I not?"

"Don’t ask me. Eat..." Eri handpicked a small portion of the food and stretched it toward him.

"Ah... t-thank you." Rashin opened his mouth, allowing her to shove it in nicely.

The meat settled on his tongue, which he then gently allowed his lips to close around her fingers before he moved his mouth away.

Gasp!

For a second, Eri’s face turned beet red. She never expected him to actually eat from her fingers—she was simply teasing him like she always did.

"Forgive my prying, but... are you two by any chance lovers?" Seriphina asked. Even with her face covered, it wasn’t hard to tell she was smiling.

Hearing the question, Eri choked on her food, only calming down after she chugged some wine that had been perfectly set on the table..

"S-sorry. Was that an inappropriate question to ask? I... I only just felt left out, so I thought I should start up a discussion."

At this point, Rashin chose to ignore whatever they were going to be discussing afterward. Instead, he focused on his food.

"Lovers? No, do we l-look like one?" Eri blushed.

"I mean, you were just feeding him with your hands," Seriphina replied.

"Yha! Yha! Yah!" Eri waved her hands frantically. "I only did that out of habit."

Seriphina gasped, covering her mouth with her hand. "Oh my, so you two really are lovers."

"No, we are not! We are traveling together! TRA—VE—LING!!!" Eri shouted.

"Traveling?"

"Yes. We are headed to the Orion Kingdom. It’s our whole reason for coming to this village in the first place. I heard there’s a border here that can be crossed without security or guards."

"You mean the border to the east?"

"Yes, that one. I don’t know which side exactly, but I’m pretty sure it’s east."

Seriphina giggled.

"Are you sure you heard right?" she asked.

"Ahnnn? What do you mean?"

"While it is true that Vergino Kingdom is in charge of the border, it is still under the rule of the Orion Kingdom. They do have guards there," Seriphina explained.

"Oh?"

"Would it be too much to ask why you want to go through a border without any security?"

"It’s kind of a long story."

Seriphina stared at Eri for a while.

"If you wish to go to Orion without the risk of getting entangled with the Kingdom’s forces, then I have a place you can go."

Eri’s eyes widened.

"There is a hidden underground lair somewhere close to the borders. This was said to be used by the Heroes during the countdown to travel faster from one place to another. As years passed, people forgot about it since Orion now had a church and their own heroes."

Eri listened.

"I know where that underground lair is."

Eri jerked up from the chair. "Bingo! That’s our way out, we can just—"

"But right now, the entire place is swarming with magic beasts from the B-rank dungeon breakout. Knights and adventurers have surrounded the place. It should take some days before they can fully exterminate the monsters and leave."

As quickly as it came, Eri’s excitement died, and she sat back down on the chair.

"I do have a suggestion..." Seriphina played with her fork. "You can spend a few days here, at least until the knights are done clearing the area. Once they are done, I will personally escort you to where the underground lair is located."

Eri suddenly questioned, "Why would you do that for people you just met today? What’s your gain in this?"

"You’re right. It’s obvious you both are running from something in this kingdom. Perhaps you’re fugitives. I could get in trouble if you are indeed bad people."

"But?..."

"But..." Seriphina looked at Rashin, who was busy eating his food without a care in the world.

"Something in my gut tells me that if I let you leave so quickly, I could regret it for the rest of my life. It’s a new feeling for me, so pardon me if I can’t explain it well."

All while she was speaking, Seriphina did not once let her gaze leave Rashin’s form.

’What the hell am I witnessing right now? Don’t tell me... she’s in love with him already!!!’

Eri raged.

’You freaking womanizer!’

Without any warning, Eri sent a powerful kick directly at Rashin’s leg.

"Ahhhh!" Rashin screamed, slamming his hand on the table.

"Oh my, are you alright?" Seriphina moved closer.

"He’s perfectly fine! Are you not? Rashin..."

"Why did you kick-"

Nak!

He was kicked again

"Ouch!"

"Dear goodness, it happened again, are you sure you’re alright, Traveler?"

"Ahhhh?! Why are you touching him all of a sudden?"

"I’m trying to make sure he’s alright."

"I already told you he’s alright! Hands off!"

"Look at his face, I don’t think he is ..."

"Hands off!!!!"
