Chapter 1235: Chapter 1235: You Can’t Leave Without Saying a Word Next Time Chapter 1235: Chapter 1235: You Can’t Leave Without Saying a Word Next Time On the other side, Qiao Yin struggled to get up from the bed after Lu Lingche left.
The breakfast Lu Lingche had prepared was lavish, but unfortunately, she had little appetite and could only eat a few bites before she couldn’t eat anymore.
A fever, a stuffy nose, a sore throat, and aching bones throughout her body.
Having spent so long in the icy seawater the night before, the aftereffects were beginning to show. She had caught a severe cold and her brain felt foggy.
Qiao Yin wasn’t used to such a severe cold; under her grandmother’s meticulous care, she had always been in good health. She couldn’t even remember when she last had a serious cold.
After breakfast, she left Lu Lingche’s villa, hailed a taxi, and went back to her own home, with no intention of waiting for Lu Lingche to return.
Once home, Qiao Yin made herself a bowl of ginger soup, adding some ephedra, schizonepeta, and angelica to drive out the pathogenic factors and ease her symptoms.
Then she gave herself a few acupuncture treatments.
Soon, she broke out in sweat, and her stuffy nose and headache were much relieved.
Today, she decided not to go to the hospital for work. She changed into a warm cashmere sweater and put on a thick, long down jacket, before taking a taxi back to the scenic small town where she was raised.
Her mother was buried in the small town.
Even though it was winter, the town was still bustling with activity. The market was crowded, with all kinds of snacks and daily necessities available. The hawkers’ cries and children’s laughter could be heard from afar.
Qiao Yin got out of the car, entered the market, bought paper money, pastries, and lilies, and then headed towards Shen Family Cemetery.
As it was not a holiday, the cemetery was deserted. Carrying her purchases, Qiao Yin walked to her mother Shen Tang’s grave and laid everything out.
“Mom, I’ve come to see you. This time, I’ve finally found some confidence. I’ve found the culprit who hurt you—it was Hou Jinhua, and she’s now in prison. She’d better be sentenced to death. If not, and she ever gets out, I’ll make sure she knows what it’s like to suffer worse than death.”
“Actually, even if she dies, it won’t dissolve the hatred in my heart, after all, we can’t go back to the past, nor can we bring you back to life. But the evil doer has at last received her deserved punishment, and I’m sure you can find some comfort in that!”
Qiao Yin sat in front of the grave, looking at her mother’s gravestone and chattered on.
After an unknown amount of time, snowflakes began to drift from the sky. She reached out to catch them: “Mom, it’s snowing. I remember you always loved snow. Whenever it snowed, you would build big and small snowmen for me. The snowy times were among your few joyful moments, so I liked the snow then too, because it meant more smiles on your face.”
“Now, I still love the snow, because whenever I see it fall, I feel as if you’re still by my side, never gone, just accompanying me in a different way.”
“It’s a pity that the snow falling now is too light, otherwise I’d build a snowman for you too. You would certainly like it.”
As she was talking to herself, a large black umbrella suddenly appeared above her head.
A familiar voice came through: “Even if you love the snow, you can’t sit out here forever. You’re already down with a cold and fever; staying out in the cold like this will be too much for your body to handle.”
Qiao Yin turned around, her eyes not hiding her surprise and shock: “Lu Lingche, how did you get here? How did you know I was here?”
Lu Lingche reached down to pull her up from the ground, covering her hands with his to warm them: “After I got home and saw you were gone, I guessed you might have gone to your place. But when I went to your house and didn’t find you, I checked the surveillance of your neighborhood and saw you got into a taxi. I had someone get in touch with the driver, and he said he dropped you off at the town.”
“Even if you managed to find the town, how did you know where my mother’s grave was?”
“I didn’t know for sure, but I could ask, couldn’t I? When you suddenly headed back to the town alone, I figured there wouldn’t be many other places you would go.”
Lu Lingche held her hand tightly, his voice betraying a hint of panic: “You can’t just leave like that without saying anything next time. When I got home and found no one there, I thought you might have been kidnapped again.”
That sense of fear nearly made his blood freeze. He was terrified something had happened to her; if she came to harm, he wouldn’t be able to forgive himself.
