Chapter 39: 039: Do you want to strangle me?
Jiang Baizhou arrived, and Cen Jin, who was attending to customers in the shop, immediately spotted him and waved with a smile. She nodded to a nearby customer and hurried over to greet him: "You’re pretty quick to arrive!"
Jiang Baizhou looked around at the people inside and outside the shop, furrowing his brow slightly: "What event is going on?"
"Discounts and reductions, see!" Cen Jin pouted and pointed to the glass with recruitment information: "Ms. Qin is urgently hiring right now, so since we’re short on staff she pulled me in to make up the numbers! Ah, but I’ll tell you more about this later. Come on, help me, follow me." With that, Cen Jin took hold of his arm and led him inside.
Jiang Baizhou was dragged into the shop by her, glancing around the surroundings as he let her lead him.
The shop’s space was quite large, with a dedicated area for relaxing, reading, and having drinks. But there were hardly any empty seats, even at the checkout where there was a long queue, and plenty of customers were browsing outside too.
Ms. Qin’s bakery was an established brand on this street, having been open for thirteen years, named ’Time Inn’, thus it had many loyal customers. Especially since there’s a university at the end of this street, the majority of customers here were university students and couples.
Ms. Qin was making pastries in the inner room. Cen Jin pulled Jiang Baizhou in to greet her, and upon seeing him, Ms. Qin was understandably happy and chastised Cen Jin lightly.
To avoid further nagging from Ms. Qin, Cen Jin quickly interrupted her: "Mom, you go on, I’ll take Jiang Baizhou outside! We’re attending a class reunion later, probably leaving around five!"
Not waiting for Ms. Qin’s response, Cen Jin dragged Jiang Baizhou to the staff room, found a brown apron, faced him, trying to help him put it on but realized she wasn’t tall enough, so she gestured to him: "Lower your head."
Upon hearing her, Jiang Baizhou’s brow moved slightly as he bent down without changing his expression, letting her fasten the apron. But as he lowered his head, the distance between them dimished instantly, startling Cen Jin, her heartbeat sped up as she looked at him blankly.
"What’s the matter?" His lips moved slightly, his deep gaze fixed on her momentarily, with a hint of teasing and smugness in his words.
"Noth... nothing." Cen Jin snapped back to reality, awkwardly shifted her gaze, pushed his shoulder to turn him around, and clumsily tied the apron strings at his waist.
Jiang Baizhou lightly huffed, squeezing out a line of words, almost gritting his teeth: "Are you trying to strangle me?"
"Ah... sorry, sorry." Cen Jin froze for a moment, realizing she had tied the apron strings too tightly, awkwardly chuckled, loosened them, and let go: "I can’t control the force well, you tie it yourself! I’m heading out first, you come out quickly to help too."
Jiang Baizhou stood there, tilting his head watching her leave, a hint of unclear intent flashing in his eyes.
With Jiang Baizhou’s help, Cen Jin and the others managed to catch a breath, but as he stood at the entrance, said nothing and with a cold expression, a merely indifferent glance attracted a bunch of young ladies, making the shop even more crowded.
Finally, Cen Jin dragged him to become a waiter, and the girls sitting there were swooning over him.
As he carried three cups of cappuccino, milk tea, and mocha coffee along with three desserts over to a table, one of the long-haired ladies with exquisite makeup held her phone and asked: "Um... sorry, handsome, could you add me on WeChat or share your number?"
