Chapter 26: 026: You’d better not regret it
Along the way, Cen Jin made quite a fuss, and Jiang Baizhou kept a calm face, silently vowing in his mind that if anyone ever dared let Nie Cenjin drink again, he wouldn’t mind taking a knife to chop them up.
In the end, perhaps she was tired of causing a ruckus, or the true aftereffects of the alcohol had kicked in, making her head even more dizzy, she finally quieted down, obediently leaning against the seat back, half-opening her eyes in a daze.
Seeing her silent, Jiang Baizhou turned his head to glance at her, gazing at her delicate face flushed with a rosy glow. His lips pressed into a straight line, something unknown seemed to brush across his heart before he silently withdrew his gaze, focusing intently on driving.
The night sky after the rain looked very refreshing, a silvery crescent moon hung in the sky, surrounded by a scattering of stars.
When they reached the villa, Jiang Baizhou turned off the car, unbuckled the seatbelt, and just stared at her for about half a minute before opening the car door to get out. He walked around the front of the car and opened the door of the passenger seat, placing his large hand against the car frame: "Nie Cenjin, we’re here."
"Hmm, okay." Cen Jin responded, rubbing her eyes and sitting up, wanting to get out of the car, but she was restrained by the seatbelt and couldn’t move at all. She tugged at the seatbelt forcefully, but it wouldn’t budge, finally letting her temper flare: "Ah, why won’t it come off!"
Jiang Baizhou was speechless, letting out a silent sigh, grabbing her restless hand, and leaning over: "Don’t move, I’ll help you undo it."
Once the seatbelt was undone, Cen Jin looked down to see that the strap that had been binding her was gone, then she laughed, squinting her eyes, placing her hand on Jiang Baizhou’s arm, and slowly stepping out of the car. Due to the distance between the car and the ground, as soon as she got out, she missed her step, stumbled forward, and Jiang Baizhou’s pupils contracted, instinctively reaching out his long arm to support her slender waist, catching her right in his embrace.
Jiang Baizhou was momentarily stunned, his brows furrowing, as he lowered his head to look at Cen Jin in his arms, finding her staring back at him with those autumn-water-like soft eyes, her face blooming with a flower-like smile in his gaze.
For a moment, Jiang Baizhou felt as if his entire body was frozen, his Adam’s apple moving slightly, met with a soft and sweet voice: "Wow! Jiang Baizhou, you’re so handsome!"
The faint aroma of alcohol lingered around, yet to Jiang Baizhou, it was like a deadly poison, his lips moving until he finally found his voice: "Nie Cenjin, you better not regret this."
As his words fell, Jiang Baizhou slightly tightened his hold on her waist, lifting her whole body up. Cen Jin tiptoed, frantically clutching his shirt, her clear eyes filled with ’confusion’, and in the next moment, Jiang Baizhou lowered his head to kiss her tender cherry lips.
The night was hazy, with the originally cool evening inexplicably gaining a touch of warmth, as if it had returned to the youthful fluttering heartbeats of the past.
Towards her, he always felt a multitude of helplessness, just like now, this kiss left him completely without recourse, his usually disciplined heart suddenly becoming erratic, seemingly growing greedier.
Suddenly, memories of that high school year during a PE class flooded his mind. Everyone had gone to the playground for free activity, only she stayed, napping on the classroom desk. The summer breeze gently blew her hair, stirring his heart. If that kiss then was a promise, then this kiss was its eternity.
