Mrs. and Mr. Smith
Chapter 1987

Chapter 1987: Chapter 1987: The Furious Ethan Smith Chapter 1987: Chapter 1987: The Furious Ethan Smith All the books of the royal family were tainted by personal sentimentality, rendering them useless for reference.

Everything had been deliberately obscured.

“No wonder the royal family's library has been forgotten. Perhaps our ancestors have long sensed this.” Ethan Smith thought to himself secretly.

He had scanned most of the library and found it covered with dust, a clear sign that no one had visited it for a long time.

“I think… perhaps the radical transformation of the Immortal Slaying Sect is somewhat related to royal propaganda,” Ethan Smith pondered.

No matter how he looked at it, Matthew Burke seemed more like an audacious youth breaking free from the royal family's repression, rather than the Demon Emperor they had imagined.

“Stop daydreaming… The Immortal Slaying Sect is evil,” retorted Obadiah Heptinstall coldly.

Ethan Smith scoffed at his statement and replied, “The era you are in may not be the same as the first generation of the Immortal Slaying Sect. The passage of time, the royal family's propaganda, and their unique status can certainly reshape the Sect.”

Obadiah Heptinstall snorted and retorted, “Are you an outsider claiming to know the Immortal Slaying Sect better than I do? Have you ever read the records within the Sect?”

Ethan Smith pondered for a bit. If he made conclusions based purely on his speculation, then indeed he could be accused of partiality.

Subsequently, Ethan Smith didn't linger, paying no homage to matters of the Ancient Times.

Upon returning to his dwelling, although he gave the place a quick once-over, he didn't spot Salena Carpenter.

“Hm? Where could she have gone?” Ethan Smith furrowed his brows, but it didn't take him long to spot the demonic egg left on the table.

“That rascal, she didn't even take the demonic egg with her? Did she encounter some sort of trouble?” Ethan Smith murmured to himself.

Just then, the Prince entered the room from outside.

“Mr. Smith, have you already finished reading?” The Prince asked, looking slightly surprised.

Ethan Smith gave a soft laugh and said, “I've read part of it, I'm slightly tired so I'm about to take a rest. By the way, where is Salena Carpenter? How come I didn't see her?”

The Prince glanced around, his brow furrowing as he murmured, “That's strange, she was here earlier.”

“You don't know her whereabouts either?” Ethan Smith's brows furrowed, and a sense of foreboding arose in his heart.

Could it be that someone had made a move on Salena?

That seemed unlikely. If someone had acted against her, why would they leave the demonic egg behind?

Before Ethan Smith had the chance to make sense of it all, a burly man strolled in.

He walked straight up to Ethan Smith with derision and a cold smile on his face.

“Who are you? What brings you here?” The Prince inquired.

The burly man paid no attention to the Prince. Instead, he focused on Ethan Smith, scoffing coldly, “Ethan Smith, someone is waiting for you outside Sky City.”

“Someone is waiting for me?” Ethan Smith scoffed back, “Well let him come and look for me then. What, does he want me to leave the city?”

The burly man showed no sign of impatience, he casually replied, “I'm not here to negotiate with you, only to give you a message. Within an hour, you must leave the city.”

Ethan Smith responded coldly, “You're sure full of yourself. A member of the Wilson family, or perhaps the Green family?”

A grotesque smile appeared on the burly man's face. He squinted his eyes and said, “If you don't leave the city within an hour, I'm afraid you'll never see your friend again.”

Ethan Smith's expression changed and he urgently asked, “You took Salena Carpenter?”

“Of course not. Salena Carpenter is Dean Garner's direct disciple. We wouldn't dare touch her,” the burly man replied indifferently.

At this point, his tone changed, and he sneered, “You have two friends, one named Clay Freeman and the other Alfred Freeman, right?”

“Freeman brothers?” Ethan Smith's face turned pale instantly.

He quickly reached out, grabbed the burly man by the collar and hissed, “Who did it?”

“What, you're going to act against me within the city?” The burly man didn't answer, opting instead for a ridiculing retort.

Ethan Smith gritted his teeth, shouting in anger, “Less talk, where are the Freeman brothers?”

“You will naturally see them as soon as you leave the city. Of course, you only have an hour,” the burly man said coldly.

The Prince next to them quickly intervened, “Mr. Smith, please don't be impulsive.”

Ethan Smith clenched his teeth, glancing at the Prince. Ultimately, he let the burly man go.

A smug smirk appeared on the burly man's face as he spun around and said, “Remember, if I don't see you in an hour, you'd better start arranging their funerals.”

He then turned and left, leaving his words hanging in the air.

Without any hesitation, Ethan Smith stood up immediately, intent on leaving the city.

The Prince tried to stop Ethan Smith, shaking his head in disapproval, “Mr. Smith, the outskirts of the city are likely already filled with ambushes. If you go out now, wouldn't it be akin to suicide?”

“I cannot stand here indifferently while my friends are in danger!” Ethan Smith retorted coldly.

The Prince replied in a solemn tone, “Mr. Smith, keep your cool. If there is a Semi-Saint out there, you will most certainly die! Moreover, even if you do go out, would they really let your friends go?”

Ethan fell silent.

Indeed, the Freeman brothers were insignificant in their eyes. They were likely to just dispose of them at will.

Ethan paced back and forth in his room, his mind in a tumult.

“Someone must have drawn away Salena Carpenter in advance.” Ethan Smith finally understood.

No wonder Salena Carpenter had mysteriously disappeared. It was all a plot!

“Prince, do you have any Saint Weapons in your possession? Could you lend one to me?” Ethan Smith asked.

The Prince shook his head, giving a bitter smile, “The Monohorse Hall confiscated all the artifacts from the royal family long ago. They didn't leave the royal family with the slightest opportunity.”

At present, Ethan Smith had no time to listen to the royal family's history, as his mind was consumed with how he could save the Freeman brothers, and how he could break the stalemate.

Time ticked away with each passing second and Ethan Smith could not think of any strategy.

Outside the city, Marc Fraley was standing idly with his hands clasped behind his back.

The cultivator standing next to him couldn't help but frown, saying, “So much time has passed, are you sure he'll come out?”

He then glanced at the badly tortured Freeman brothers and muttered under his breath, “Would he risk his life for these two good-for-nothing characters?”

Marc Fraley smiled faintly and said, “Rest assured, he will come out. He will definitely come out.”

Upon hearing these words, the cultivator let it go and continued to wait.

In a blink of an eye, less than five minutes were left of the one hour timeline, and Ethan Smith still had no strategic plan.

“It seems I'll have to take a gamble,” Ethan Smith rose from his seat, his voice cold and resolute.

Having left these words behind, Ethan Smith turned and headed for the palace exit.

“Mr. Smith, do you really intend to leave Sky City?” The Prince asked in concern.

Ethan Smith responded affirmatively, “Even if I die, I will do it.”

Having said that, Ethan Smith stopped hesitating and shot out of the city gate.
