Mrs. and Mr. Smith -
Chapter 1823
Chapter 1823: Chapter 1823: The Reason Behind the Destruction of the Immortal Slaying Sect Chapter 1823: Chapter 1823: The Reason Behind the Destruction of the Immortal Slaying Sect Dean Garner shook his head without offering an explanation.
“This young man, could he actually have a notable background?” the elder beside him asked, perplexed.
He couldn't see Ethan Smith as someone from an aristocratic family.
*Dean Garner's words today had him utterly bewildered.*
At that moment, Dean Garner slowly said, “I only recently learned about the child's lineage.”
“Is his father powerful?” the elder asked again, confused.
Dean Garner glanced at him, opened his mouth as if to speak, but ultimately said nothing.
Just then.
The peak master, accompanied by Ethan Smith, had already arrived at the first main peak.
“I'll tell you this–I've done what I could, but in cases like these, there's about a ninety-nine percent chance Dean Garner won't agree,” the peak master said in a solemn tone.
Ethan Smith gave a slight nod and said, “Thank you, peak master.”
*The peak master harbored no hope deep down, as in Thunder Courtyard, anything related to the Immortal Emperor Tomb was treated with extreme caution.*
*It wasn't just a matter of approaching it–even mentioning it was considered an act of profound disrespect toward the Immortal Emperor.*
*As a result, the peak master felt particularly uneasy at this moment.*
But the commitment had already been made, so he could only steel himself and proceed.
“Dean Garner.” The peak master stepped forward and gave a slight bow to Dean Garner.
Dean Garner looked at the peak master and asked, “Ethan Smith is outside, isn't he?”
The peak master nodded and replied, “Yes, Dean Garner, he's waiting outside.”
Dean Garner remained silent. His eyes narrowed slightly, and his gaze pierced through the walls, directly landing on Ethan Smith.
After inspecting him thoroughly, Dean Garner furrowed his brows slightly.
Soon, he withdrew his gaze and turned to the peak master, asking, “How has Ethan Smith been performing lately?”
The peak master froze momentarily; evidently, he hadn't expected Dean Garner to take such an interest in Ethan Smith.
“He's been performing quite admirably. There's a tenacity about him, and he's fearless of both heaven and earth,” the peak master answered truthfully.
Afterward, the peak master relayed the recent events to Dean Garner.
Dean Garner chuckled after hearing him out.
“Very good,” Dean Garner said lightly, stroking his beard.
Hearing Dean Garner's words left the peak master even more baffled.
*What was going on with Dean Garner today? Why was he being so generous with praise?*
“Speak, why have you come to me?” Dean Garner asked, looking at the peak master.
The peak master swallowed nervously, seemingly hesitant to speak.
“If you have something to say, then say it plainly. It's fine,” Dean Garner said in an even tone, noticing the peak master's apprehension.
The peak master gritted his teeth and spoke, “Dean Garner, I know this matter is impossible, but I've already given my word to Ethan Smith; I could only come to ask for your decision. If you disapprove, I ask you not to hold it against me.”
“Go on,” Dean Garner said flatly.
The peak master took a deep breath and said, “Ethan Smith… Ethan Smith said he wishes to cultivate at the Immortal Emperor Tomb…”
Though it was just a short sentence, the peak master's voice grew increasingly faint, demonstrating just how little confidence he had in his request.
Perhaps fearing the dean's anger, the peak master hurriedly added, “Because of Ethan Smith's special physique, he requires dark energy for his cultivation. I know this young man's request is sheer delusion, but–”
“I've agreed,” Dean Garner interrupted before the peak master finished his justification.
“I knew it–you wouldn't possibly… Wait, what? You… you said you agreed?” the peak master was stunned, his eyes widening in disbelief as if he had just heard the most absurd thing in the world.
Dean Garner calmly replied, “Go back and tell Ethan Smith that in a few days, I will personally escort him to the vicinity of the tomb.”
The peak master hadn't yet recovered from his stupefaction. He stood there motionless, unable to utter a word.
Dean Garner didn't waste much time discussing further; with a wave of his hand, a gentle force sent the peak master straight to Ethan Smith.
The peak master now stood before Ethan Smith, seemingly frozen like a statue.
His jaw nearly hit the ground, and his brain buzzed loudly.
“Hey, peak master, are you okay?” Ethan Smith asked curiously.
Only then did the peak master snap back to reality. He shook his head vigorously before facing Ethan Smith.
“Ethan… Ethan Smith, what exactly is your background?” the peak master asked, swallowing hard.
Ethan Smith frowned and replied, “What background could I possibly have? Peak master, what's going on? Did Dean Garner approve or not?”
The peak master painstakingly scrutinized Ethan Smith from head to toe, confirming that he didn't appear to be lying. Only then did he cough and casually say, “The dean has granted you special permission to cultivate near the tomb. Three days from now, he will personally escort you there.”
Ethan Smith was overjoyed upon hearing this.
“Thank you, peak master!” Ethan Smith said, bowing gratefully.
The peak master chuckled and said, “No need for thanks. If you truly want to express gratitude, fulfill your promise.”
“Absolutely!” Ethan Smith nodded resolutely.
The two of them didn't linger long and immediately departed from the first main peak toward the eighth main peak.
*On the way, the peak master felt deeply unsettled.*
*Having spent years on Demon-slaying Peak, he naturally understood the gravity of the Immortal Emperor's tomb.*
*It wasn't just Ethan Smith–even those from Monohorse Hall could only dream of approaching it.*
*Because buried there were the Immortal Emperor's secret treasures!*
*It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that these secrets had the potential to establish a sect that would dominate an era.*
*Yet this time, Dean Garner had agreed so decisively, which undoubtedly indicated Ethan Smith's extraordinary identity.*
“By the way, peak master, have you ever heard of the Immortal Slaying Sect?” Ethan Smith suddenly asked.
The peak master was pulled out of his thoughts and nodded, “I've heard of it. Supposedly, it was an incredibly dominant sect during its time.”
Ethan Smith nodded in turn and asked, “Do you know much about the Immortal Slaying Sect?”
“Know much… I wouldn't go that far,” the peak master said, rubbing his chin.
“From what I've gathered, at its peak, the Immortal Slaying Sect oppressed the Monohorse Hall to the point of suffocation, forcing them to retreat. But later, for unknown reasons, the sect suddenly vanished,” the peak master said gravely.
“Vanished suddenly?” Ethan Smith paused, then silently pondered, *Could it have something to do with Clare Richardson?*
The peak master sighed and added, “I've heard rumors about a remarkably audacious idea they held–that very notion supposedly led to the downfall of the once-thriving sect in a single night.”
An audacious idea?
*Ethan Smith had indeed heard that the Immortal Slaying Sect was known for its audacity, but he had no clue what they had actually attempted.*
“Obadiah Heptinstall, have you heard of it?” Ethan Smith inquired.
Obadiah Heptinstall snorted coldly, “How could I not? But this person's claims aren't entirely incorrect. I've heard whispers about it before; the Immortal Slaying Sect was rumored to have devoted generations to it.”
Ethan Smith scratched his head and continued to probe, “Wasn't the sect's downfall related to that masked woman?”
“She was merely one of the causes,” Obadiah Heptinstall replied coolly.
Ethan Smith pressed further, “Explain more clearly–what exactly happened?”
