Mrs. and Mr. Smith
Chapter 1369

Chapter 1369: Chapter 1369: The Innocent Freeman Brothers Chapter 1369: Chapter 1369: The Innocent Freeman Brothers “What's the matter?” Ethan Smith asked as he noticed something unusual.

The two brothers shook their heads, then laughed and said, “Nothing's wrong. As long as Grandpa is safe, we're relieved.”

Ethan nodded and said, “We can't stay here in Grandeous City. The Cloud Sect will surely send a lot of people to hunt us down.”

But Clay Freeman wasn't worried at all. He thumped his chest proudly and said, “We've been in Grandeous City for so many years, it wasn't for nothing! Don't worry, I, Clay Freeman, have many friends here–good brothers, even more!”

Ethan furrowed his brow and shook his head, saying, “I think it's better not to rely on them. They might have been your friends back then, but it's hard to say now.”

Guinevere Lee's recent behavior explained everything.

Clay Freeman dismissed the concern; he pounded Ethan's chest lightly and said, “What, you don't believe in my charm? Don't worry–he absolutely won't betray me.”

“Exactly, exactly! Back then, he had the same relationship with us as you do now,” Alfred Freeman chimed in.

Ethan, seeing their insistence, could only sigh softly.

*The Freeman brothers had simple hearts and had never experienced real setbacks.*

*So no matter what Ethan said, they wouldn't believe him.*

*”Let's just hope they won't sell us out for glory,” Ethan thought to himself.*

Afterward, Clay and Alfred Freeman led Ethan Smith to a prominent household in Grandeous City.

About half an hour later, the three of them arrived at the entrance of a courtyard.

The first thing they noticed was the grand and opulent gate, with the words “Miller Family” engraved upon it.

“This is the place,” Clay Freeman said.

He adjusted his hat and knocked on the Miller family's door.

Soon, a servant came out to meet them.

The servant looked the three over and asked, “Who are you here to see?”

“I'm here to see Gilbert Miller. Tell him his best friend is here to see him,” Clay Freeman said casually.

“Can you give me your name?” the servant asked.

Clay Freeman glared and said, “Why do you need a name? Just do what I told you and stop wasting time!”

The servant, unsure of Clay Freeman's status, didn't dare press the issue and quickly responded, “Alright, please wait a moment. I'll go inform him.”

A few minutes later, a well-dressed young man emerged from the courtyard.

This man was none other than Gilbert Miller.

Gilbert walked up to Clay Freeman, looked him up and down, and asked, “Who are you?”

Clay Freeman leaned in close to Gilbert's ear and whispered, “I'm Clay Freeman.”

Gilbert's face changed dramatically upon hearing this!

He immediately covered Clay Freeman's mouth and glanced nervously at the nearby servant.

“You may leave now,” Gilbert said calmly.

“Yes, young sir,” the servant answered respectfully before retreating.

Once the servant was far enough away, Gilbert spoke in a panic, “Clay Freeman, why are you here? Don't you know the Cloud Sect is searching for you?”

Clay Freeman rolled his eyes and said, “That's why we came to you–for a hiding spot. So, can you help us or not?”

Gilbert nodded and said, “That's not a problem. Follow me.”

Gilbert then took the lead and headed into the courtyard.

Clay Freeman flashed a smug grin at Ethan Smith and gestured, saying, “See? Didn't I tell you?”

Ethan nodded but didn't say a word. Deep down, he still didn't trust Gilbert Miller.

Gilbert led the three of them to a room deep inside the courtyard.

“You'll stay here for now,” Gilbert said. “I'll smooth things over in the next few days and get you out.”

“Alright, you go do that,” Clay Freeman said, waving dismissively.

Gilbert nodded and left the room.

Ethan glanced at the room and couldn't help but frown slightly.

“Something's off,” Ethan muttered solemnly.

“What's off about it?” Clay Freeman asked casually, lying comfortably on the bed.

Ethan pointed to the room and said, “This room is too clean; someone's clearly been living here.”

“And what's the problem with that?” Clay Freeman asked, confused.

Ethan replied gravely, “Think about it carefully. If you're hiding someone, you'd usually place them in an unused room. Why would you give us one that's already being lived in?”

Clay Freeman waved his hand impatiently and said, “Aren't you a little too paranoid? What, you think I can't make a proper friend?”

Ethan, seeing this, could only hold his tongue and reluctantly settled in.

By evening, Gilbert brought in food and two pitchers of wine.

As he entered, he quickly closed the door behind him.

“Brother, what's the situation outside?” Clay Freeman asked, hopping down from the bed.

Gilbert's face was grim as he replied, “It's bad. Word is Mr. Freeman has already fled, and the Cloud Sect is likely to wipe out everyone connected.”

As he spoke, Gilbert's gaze fell on Ethan Smith.

“If I'm not mistaken, this must be Ethan Smith, Mr. Smith, correct?” Gilbert asked.

Ethan cupped his hands in greeting and said, “A pleasure to meet you, Mr. Miller.”

Gilbert gave Ethan a thumbs-up and said, “Mr. Smith, you're truly accomplished at such a young age. It puts the rest of us to shame.”

“Cut the small talk; we're all brothers here. Come on, sit down,” Clay Freeman said as he pulled Gilbert over.

Gilbert nodded and unveiled the food, pouring four cups of wine.

“Since you've come to the Miller family, you trust me, Gilbert Miller. Stay here in peace; once things calm down, I'll think of a way to help,” Gilbert said as he raised his cup.

Ethan also raised his cup and said, “Thank you for your help.”

With that, the four clinked their glasses and drank them dry in one go.

As the wine flowed, the four of them ate and chatted, seemingly enjoying themselves.

But then, Clay Freeman suddenly furrowed his brow.

“What's wrong?” Ethan Smith immediately asked.

Clay waved his hand and said, “Maybe the wine's too strong; it's hitting me hard.”

“I feel it too–it's been so long since I drank; I'm a bit dizzy,” Alfred Freeman added.

Ethan's expression shifted slightly, and he instinctively looked at Gilbert Miller.

Gilbert's expression was perfectly calm, betraying no emotion.

Ethan narrowed his eyes and rubbed his temple, pretending to say, “Damn, I'm feeling a little dizzy too…”

Upon hearing this, Gilbert finally raised his head.

He put down his chopsticks and smiled faintly, saying, “Feeling dizzy is natural. I added something to the wine–it'll have you sleeping for an entire day.”

“What do you mean?” Clay Freeman's face turned unpleasant.

Gilbert sneered and said, “Randall Freeman is already gone; who would care about you two nobodies? Did you really think I'd offend the Cloud Sect for the sake of two useless fools?”
