Mr.President, Let's Get a Divorce -
Chapter 95 - 099 Grandfather
Chapter 95: 099 Grandfather
Wen Nian sat on the sofa to the right of Wen Liangyu, proactively refilling his grandfather’s tea,
"But it’s just rumors from outside. I can’t believe it has alarmed Grandfather."
"This past month, you’ve made such big moves; Grandfather couldn’t ignore it even if he wanted to."
Wen Liangyu picked up the delicate, blue and white porcelain cup and took a sip before he sighed.
Wen Nian just gave a faint smile.
"Xiaonian, let’s not touch Xilin for now, alright? It’s not a bone you can chew on at the moment."
"..."
"You should also try to put a stop to the outside rumors in a timely manner. Most people in this world are opportunists; a little wind from your side can startle them into a huge commotion."
"Yes, Grandfather, I understand."
Wen Nian responded.
Wen Liangyu glanced at Wen Nian, only to see Wen Nian’s gaze indifferently fixed on an unnamed point on the marble table.
His mouth said yes, but his heart did not.
Wen Liangyu saw through it but didn’t point it out. He was too fond of this grandson, but ever since the grandson became President, many things had changed.
This grandson who had always followed his every command had started, at some point, to act in ways that Wen Liangyu couldn’t understand at all.
This made Wen Liangyu feel uncomfortable, as if a young eagle had hardened its wings and no longer needed the protection of an old eagle like himself.
"Xilin borders Luosi Country, which has a brash national character. After establishing diplomatic relations with them, marriage and trade interactions have been intense, mostly occurring in Xilin. Hence, the local customs there have become somewhat rough and backward. Moreover, with its vast lands, many mountains, and few plains, Xilin is certainly not the best place for economic development."
"When I was in power, I also had the intention to develop Xilin vigorously and made a firm resolution. However, I encountered numerous obstacles and ultimately had to give up. Eh..."
Wen Liangyu sighed deeply,
"I have told you before that since you’ve become President, you should accomplish something significant, with the aim of having your name go down in history. That’s the only way to not let down the legacy of our Wen Family ancestors."
"But what I meant by taking action was not for you to recklessly do things that others dared not, but to possibly do things that benefit more people, that the majority of the common people would admire and praise you for! How to improve your performance, that is the urgent matter at hand. Being as smart as you are, how can you not understand?"
Wen Nian picked up the teapot, refilled Wen Liangyu’s cup, and then suddenly said,
"Grandfather, someone reported that the Mayor of Xilin City has embezzled a huge amount of money and secretly colluded with the high-level politicians of Luosi Country."
"Oh? The Mayor of Xilin City, if I recall correctly, his last name is Lin, right?"
"Grandfather has a good memory. When you were in power, he was just a Deputy County Head of Tanjin County."
"Then... is the report true?"
"They are still investigating below, but it is mostly likely true."
Wen Liangyu lifted the teacup to his nose, swirling it as if appreciating the fragrance of the tea,
"If it’s true, then proceed with the prosecution. No wonder Xilin hasn’t seen any improvement for all these years."
Wen Nian nodded in agreement.
"By the way, you replaced the Ministers of Finance and Foreign Affairs, as well as the Director of the Office of the President all at once. That’s quite the bold move."
"When Grandfather took office, you almost replaced two-thirds of the Cabinet members. Compared to Grandfather, my actions can hardly be considered bold. Besides... the newly appointed Minister of Finance, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Director of the Office are all people Grandfather once trusted. It was only right for me to rely on them again."
Hearing Wen Nian speak like that, Wen Liangyu felt much more comfortable and at ease.
He smiled, stood up, and patted Wen Nian’s shoulder,
"Grandfather is proud of you. Alright, I won’t disturb your work. You go on with your business; I’ll be heading back now."
"Let me see you out."
