Chapter 241: Captain Xiao Hua of the 244th Naval Marine Assault Team
"Bang! Bang!"
Gunfire and bullets shrouded a small island in the South Sea in smoke.
The island, known as Jiangsong, only had one village, which had now become a battlefield. The native residents all hid in their homes, not daring to breathe a word.
The sounds of gunfire shifted from continuous to sporadic.
A few individuals who had crossed the border illegally were spotted by the patrolling naval fleet. After three warnings, instead of surrendering, they took a mother and son hostage on Jiangsong Island.
The situation was urgent.
The Naval Command dispatched a Marine Assault Team for a rescue.
The investigation revealed five armed illegal crossers on Jiangsong Island. Upon landing, the Marine Team immediately commenced the rescue of the hostages.
After the engagement, two special forces members entered the hostage location, found the mother and son, one of them leading the hostages out of the enemy camp while the other member covered their escape.
"Qin Haozi, I’ve got someone on me, can’t get out!"
The special forces member escorting the hostages was Song Yangling, once an officer-in-reserve at Xilin Military Region.
"Location!"
His partner was a sniper from the special forces team, named Qin Shu, now lying in ambush at a hidden spot.
"East, eighty degrees."
Song Yangling responded.
On one hand, he had to be vigilant of the enemy aiming at his position, on the other, he had to protect the frightened hostages, all the while being wary of enemy accomplices potentially flanking from other directions.
Of the five illegal crossers, two had been captured by other team members, another was injured and fled deeper into the island’s rainforest, leaving one aiming at his position, and the whereabouts of the last unknown.
"East, eighty..."
Qin Shu, prone at his sniping position, frowned,
"I need to move. Song Yangling, hold tight."
Qin Shu said, starting to shift his position when, unexpectedly, a gunshot sounded—the bullet whizzing by his ear, the shell casing even striking his helmet!
"Damn... nearly met the King of Hell..."
Qin Shu cursed. He was lucky he had reacted quickly.
Not only was someone targeting Song Yangling, but someone was targeting him as well!
"Qin Haozi, are you alright?"
"Just barely."
"Report to the boss for backup."
There were only five team members that landed on the island, leaving only the two of them stranded, watched and unable to move. The situation was at a stalemate.
"Got it! Keep the hostages safe!"
"Roger."
Qin Shu thought bitterly how he was supposed to be the sniper, yet he couldn’t even precisely locate the enemy; he felt like a complete failure.
He raised his sniper rifle, removed his helmet, and placed it to one side as a decoy.
Using his high-powered scope, he scanned the area...
There, on a slope directly in front of him, he spotted someone also prone on the ground, aiming at him. Qin Shu squinted, aimed, and immediately fired his gun!
What he didn’t expect was that as soon as he fired, bullets came flying at him from another direction!
Qin Shu was hit in the leg!
"Damn..."
He spat out angrily.
Looking to the east, a dark-skinned man holding a gun was approaching him. Just as the enemy was about to fire a second shot, the dark-skinned man suddenly fell!
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
Two shots rang out, crisp and clear.
"Two enemy combatants, eliminated."
A calm sentence from the captain came through the radio.
"One that fled has surrendered."
More good news came from the other end.
"Xiao Lingzi, bring the hostages out."
"Roger, Captain Xiao Hua!"
Tang Xiaohua leaped down from a tree behind, a sniper rifle slung across her back.
She adjusted her helmet and walked over to Qin Shu, pulling him up,
"Can you walk?"
"Captain..."
"Save it for when we regroup."
Tang Xiaohua said to him with a stern face.
