Chapter 102: 106 luggage, don’t need it for now

In the military command room, more than ten computers simultaneously displayed the situation of the new recruits enduring their wilderness hike, each computer showing six to twelve split screens.

Eighty new recruits, right out of the gate, five of them had their luggage monopolized by their mates. They were still persevering, but this kind of perseverance seemed hopeless.

By three o’clock in the afternoon, ten and a half hours since the start, the proctors sitting in the command room already had a rough idea of the standing of each group.

Lu Ziqing sat with his arms crossed, in the front row, next to him was Qi Yong. Unlike Ziqing, Qi was holding a clipboard, diligently recording the performance of these recruits during their trek.

When Duan Chen entered the room, complete silence fell. Everyone shared the same expression, eyes wide, holding their breath and focusing intently on the scene displayed on the second surveillance screen.

The two female soldiers in the footage were none other than Song Lili and Lin Xinglan.

Duan Chen squinted his eyes. Why weren’t those two carrying their luggage?

He casually tapped a young communications officer nearby, "What’s the situation?"

The officer, tense with attention, was startled by Duan Chen’s touch, didn’t turn his head and said, "Wait a sec!"

Duan Chen raised an eyebrow, shrugged his shoulders and didn’t take it amiss, his tone casual as he asked again, "Where’s their luggage?"

Even though the young officer was focused, he now had no choice but to look back at Duan Chen. On seeing him, he quickly exclaimed, "Commander!"

Duan Chen patted his shoulder, "Answer my question."

The officer hurriedly reported, "Oh, Commander, Lin Xinglan and Tang Xiaohua’s luggage was taken by Luo Shengnan and Qiu Huai, who were walking in front of them."

"Stolen?"

The officer scratched his head, "I wouldn’t call it stealing, more like taking advantage of someone’s vulnerability. After all, Lin Xinglan was so careless she fell asleep on a rock, and Luo Shengnan just walked by and took the luggage without her noticing despite the noise!"

Duan Chen wore an expression that seemed to say he had expected as much.

When Tang Xiaohua came back and saw her luggage was gone, and Lin Xinglan was completely clueless, her expression was truly hilarious! The young officer pointed at the central screen, "Tang Xiaohua has spotted Luo Shengnan."

In the footage, Luo Shengnan washed her face by a creek to cool off and filled her emptied water bottle with clean stream water. Not far behind her in the woods, Song Lili leaned against a tree, her eyes peering out, watching leisurely.

Lin Xinglan approached from another direction, her hands now holding a few pears. She was about to call out to Song Lili when she saw Lili signal to her to be silent, before beckoning her over.

As Xinglan drew close, following Lili’s gaze, her eyes suddenly widened. She pointed in Luo Shengnan’s direction, about to shout, but was quickly pulled back by Song Lili,

"Don’t shout!"

"Isn’t that our luggage right beside her?"

Song Lili nodded.

"Let’s hurry over and steal our luggage back!"

Xinglan’s words echoed what most of the onlookers were thinking. Everyone was eagerly waiting to see how Lili would reclaim their dignity. But at that moment, Song Lili shook her head,

"We don’t need the luggage, for now."
