Chapter 38 Bangbangtang
Chapter 38: Chapter 38 Bangbangtang
Bangbangtang was very excited about her owner’s return, squirming non-stop in Tu Hengsha’s arms. Shu Hui watched, tried to hold back, but eventually couldn’t, "Don’t keep holding it! Even though it’s already better, you still need to be careful! Didn’t we agree to send it off?"
Tu Hengsha paused her caressing of Bangbangtang, looking pitiful and pleading, "Mom, can’t we not send it? You see, I’m perfectly fine..."
"No!" Shu Hui was unwavering when it came to health matters.
Tu Hengsha, feeling helpless, said, "Let’s wait until my day off to send it. Fan Yue just moved, let’s wait until she’s settled."
Fan Yue used to be Tu Hengsha’s colleague and was a good friend.
As soon as she mentioned Fan Yue, her phone rang. To her surprise, it was Fan Yue calling.
"Little Sha! You said you’d come to my house and hang out, when are you coming over?" Fan Yue asked from the other end.
"How about next day off! I still have to bring Bangbangtang to you!" Tu Hengsha stroked Bangbangtang’s fur. When she first found it, it was dirty and ugly, but after these days of care, its fur was sleek and glossy and its little black eyes were irresistibly cute, even though it was just a mutt.
Bangbangtang, perhaps sensing something, was especially well-behaved and lay at her feet, nuzzling in her palm.
"Great, I’ll get prepared early! I’ll cook you a big meal myself!"
Tu Hengsha was reluctant to part with Bangbangtang.
She wasn’t someone who asked much of life and seldom pursued anything actively. The most important parts of her life were working well, being with her mom, and both she and her mom staying healthy. People came and went in her life, like leaves budding and falling. After joining Yincan Media and meeting Fan Yue, she gained a new word in her life: best friend.
As a child, she suffered from asthma. Although largely cured, she never kept pets.
On that rainy day, on her way home, she found Bangbangtang, all muddy, lying under the bushes. When it saw her approach, it whimpered. She stopped and saw the little ugly dog, and there on the ground beside it, mingled with the rainwater, was a hint of red. She realized then it was injured. Unable to resist, she squatted down, and it pawed at her pant leg with its forelimb. Its head’s damp fur was tousled, and its pair of jet-black eyes looked moist too, as if ready to shed tears, whimpering like it was crying.
In that instant, she suddenly recalled herself sitting on the steps of the Court when she was five years old.
She picked it up without hesitation.
But, there was no avoiding having to send it away...
"I will visit you often." Thankfully, Fan Yue was willing to take it in.
"Okay, okay, I can’t bear to part with it either. When you’re not home, it keeps me company, and it brings me a lot of joy, but we can’t keep it." Shu Hui said.
"Yeah, I know." Life was an irreversible ray that always spoke of farewells. She understood this long ago.
"Let’s go eat zongzi!" Shu Hui said, "Don’t you like sweets?"
"Okay!" She put down Bangbangtang and headed to the kitchen, with Bangbangtang tagging along at her heels.
She loved red date and eight treasure flavors because they were sweet. As she bit into the soft, glutinous zongzi, she suddenly recalled someone and a phrase: "I never eat sweets."
She didn’t understand, why stop eating sweets?
She found a paper bag and quickly packed a few egg yolk and salty meat zongzi.
"Where are you taking the zongzi?" Shu Hui happened to come in and ask.
"Oh... I’ll take them to the press office tomorrow to eat..." she stammered.
Shu Hui glanced at her, "Didn’t you say you don’t eat egg yolk and meat zongzi?"
"Ah? Hmm... I just suddenly felt like eating, can’t I?" She put down the paper bag and ran back to her room.
