Chapter 283: Chapter 273 Trouble Occurs

She clearly remembered, Cui Pei had even promised her to divorce Fan Yue and marry her!

Although she had no feelings for Cui Pei, she always believed that Cui Pei had fallen in love with her! So, was the game she played actually a joke? Who played who?

"Cui Pei!" She nodded bitterly; within that bitterness was the humiliation of being trampled by Cui Pei and the crisis currently faced by the Su family, which she believed Cui Pei was the instigator of! "Why did you approach me?"

Cui Pei didn’t want to answer. He settled the bill with the waiter and tossed out a remark, "It certainly wasn’t because you’re beautiful and cute!"

"What about divorcing Fan Yue to marry me?" Su Rongxing clung to this sentence as she saw he was about to leave.

Cui Pei ignored her and left.

He wasn’t a good person, even quite vile. He didn’t want to divorce Fan Yue to marry Su Rongxing, but if there truly were this opportunity, if reality hadn’t developed as it did, perhaps he really would have done so. He couldn’t leave Fan Yue, so for a while, his plan was to be the Su family’s son-in-law but still keep Fan Yue on the side. This was his way of having the best of both worlds, his fantasy of a peak life. However, things developed beyond his expectations. He hadn’t anticipated Yueyue would suddenly discover his affair with Su Rongxing, didn’t expect her reaction to be so extreme upon discovering it, didn’t anticipate uncovering the company’s secret, or that the secret would end up in Yueyue’s hands. Then everything spiraled out of control, beyond his command.

If he could start over, he would never do it again; he just needed Yueyue, to have her back.

He glanced back at Su Rongxing with disdain, just as he loathed his vile self...

Su Rongxing stared at his back, filled with nothing but hatred and anger in her eyes, yet she could do nothing!

She stormed into her car, ready to start it, but noticed a fleeting silhouette in the rearview mirror. She leaned out for a clearer look but saw no one...

Train Station.

Tu Hengsha waved goodbye to Fan Yue’s parents as they entered the security checkpoint.

Fan Yue’s case was not yet concluded, but Mr. and Mrs. Fan decided to return home. Their intention was, knowing who the culprit was, what then? What of the court’s verdict? Could their daughter come back? They asked for nothing but the return of their daughter, yet since it couldn’t come true, they preferred to take her home sooner...

They said it sufficed to call them once the case was judged.

The elderly couple gradually vanished into the throng of the station, disappearing from sight. Tu Hengsha lingered at the entrance for a long while, her mind preoccupied with the Fan parents’ slow steps and graying hair. She remembered the video call between Yueyue and her parents last year, when both of them still had dark hair and spirited demeanor, and they were not yet sixty. In such a short span, they had aged so swiftly.

Once the information was submitted, chaos erupted at the Su family, while online media tirelessly commented and reported on it, from societal, financial, to entertainment sections. Everyone’s attention was on Su Zhen and his company, yet Tu Hengsha, as a pivotal figure in this affair, had found calm and focused on her work.

Her conflict with Su Rongxing escalated to its peak. Su Rongxing’s eyes brimmed with hatred every time she saw her, though no longer did she jump around the way she used to, targeting her. It was as if she suddenly matured overnight, becoming quiet and reticent, making this version of Su Rongxing even more unsettling, as if a pair of sinister eyes watched her from behind.

This attitude wasn’t exclusive to Tu Hengsha; she changed in Su Ronggui’s presence too. The sister who used to cling to him disappeared, replaced by a quiet person with a strange gaze sitting beside him, eyes forward as if he wasn’t even there.

Tu Hengsha didn’t mind. She and Su Rongxing were naturally incompatible, and no matter what she did, she couldn’t turn hostility into friendship. Still, she felt regret for Su Ronggui. He chose her, disregarding that she was the daughter of his father’s killer, and sacrificed so much for her, including family and kinship, things invaluable to anyone.

It was deep winter and nearly the end of the year; despite the cold, the atmosphere was festive with New Year celebrations, so out of place with recent events.

On the way home, Shu Hui called Tu Hengsha, asking her to bring back some salt.

Su Ronggui then parked the car at a spot on Hongliu Intersection and accompanied her to the corner store to buy salt, walking a bit of the way back home with her.

In the winter chill, her fingers interlocked with his, tucked in his coat pocket, warm, with a trace of sweat seeping out between them.

"Xiao Xu..." she gently scratched his fingers, "Am I important to you?"

He found her question somewhat silly, "What do you think?"

She knew, of course, but still wanted to ask, "Why? To what extent? Would you give up everything?" Yet, after asking, she felt even sillier, comparing herself to everything he had was indeed foolish.

"Yes." His reply came almost without thought, "You are most important."

She sighed, "But, I guess all I do is upset you, nothing really worthy of making you sacrifice everything for me, right? Unlike you, you’ve saved my life at least twice!"

"So tell me, why is a fool who always annoys me so important to me?" He asked her back.

She felt a weighted gloom these days, her heart oppressed more heavily than the smoggy weather, so she took a deep breath, then sighed, even if inhaling smog, she needed to breathe deeply!

"It must be my beautiful exterior and wise soul, right?" She raised her head, asking him.

Only after Fan Yue’s passing did he see a bit of vibrancy and mischief in her eyes, and for the first time since the Su family’s incident, he broke into laughter, "Yes, because you’re the little tyrant of Hongliu Road!"

Life kept moving forward, and no one should sink into sadness...

Shu Hui cooked hotpot again, and the three of them sat around it on the cold winter day, eating steaming hot meat, the warm vapor hitting their faces, soon turning them flushed.

They were in the midst of lively eating when Su Ronggui’s phone rang.

At that moment, Su Ronggui had just placed some cooked lamb into Tu Hengsha’s bowl. When his phone rang, he whispered, "I’ll take this call."

He stood up while answering, but before he could step aside, he paused, then quickly put on his coat after hanging up, "Little Sha, something happened to my mom; I need to go immediately."

"Oh..." Tu Hengsha quickly put down her chopsticks, "Then you should go quickly, drive safely!"

"Okay! Aunt Shu, take your time eating; I’m off!" He left in a rush.

Tu Hengsha furrowed her brow, pondering over what could have happened.
