Mr. Su's Love Investigation Report -
Chapter 229
Chapter 229: Chapter 229
From that point on, until they reached the newspaper office, Mr. Su didn’t say a single word, his face dark as a cloud.
Tu Hengsha felt very aggrieved. She was obviously so innocent; it was Mr. Su who misunderstood, so why should she take the blame?
The car stopped in the newspaper office’s parking lot.
With a dark face, he started to get out of the car, and the ointment on him rolled off.
Tu Hengsha hurriedly said, "The ointment!" and picked it up to hand back to him.
He glanced at her coolly, "As a mature woman, couldn’t you think that even if I had the ointment, I still couldn’t apply it?"
"..." She regretted it. Fine, she was an immature woman, okay?
Following behind Mr. Su into the newspaper office, he went straight to his own desk. She pouted and returned to her place, only to unexpectedly find several shopping bags on her desk. Upon inspection of each bag, there were women’s clothes, from innerwear to outerwear.
Whose were these? Were they placed here by mistake, or what?
She glanced over at Mr. Su, who ignored her...
It was a colleague who kindly informed her that yesterday afternoon after she left, Chen Qi put them on her desk.
Chen Qi?
It couldn’t have been a mistake, then. Why would Chen Qi give her clothes?
Soon, the chief editor arrived, and Su Ronggui went to the editor’s office. Immediately after, Chen Qi came, and Tu Hengsha hurriedly took the clothes to find Chen Qi.
"Why did you give these to me? These are for you!" Chen Qi said upon seeing the clothes in her hands.
"For me?" Tu Hengsha was bewildered.
Chen Qi sat down and opened her computer, "Yesterday, when Su Ronggui and I came back, we saw you and Hao Ren being splashed with dirty water at the entrance of the newspaper office. Su Ronggui turned around to chase one of those people and instructed me to prepare some clothes to bring to you. But by the time I brought the clothes, you were already gone. So I just left them on your desk. As for the money, Su Ronggui already transferred it to me last night, so you don’t have to pay."
Tu Hengsha was stunned; such a big incident, and he hadn’t mentioned it from last night until today.
"So, did he catch them or not?" she asked, puzzled.
"I don’t know," Chen Qi shrugged, "but don’t worry. No matter what others say, I believe you’re innocent. Since you’re innocent and someone is investigating, the truth will eventually come to light."
Tu Hengsha smiled, feeling flattered, as Chen Qi was usually cold and warm to her by turns, "Director Chen, you trust me so much?"
"It’s not trust in you," Chen Qi gave her a sideways glance, "neither your character nor your work has given me any reason to trust. I only trust the facts I’ve seen."
"..." Just as she thought! But she still smiled and asked, "Then tell me the facts you’ve seen, so I can get out of this storm sooner."
Chen Qi frowned, clearly unhappy.
Tu Hengsha assumed she didn’t want to speak and was about to give up, but then she heard her say, "That Liu Hong, I’ve seen her before, beaten very badly by her husband. He even beat her and her daughter in... public, and I recorded a video."
Tu Hengsha was greatly surprised, "Isn’t that too much of a coincidence?"
Chen Qi sneered, "What’s so coincidental? Every chance occurrence has its necessity!"
"..." That left Tu Hengsha without words, so she simply asked, "Could I have the video, please?"
Chen Qi pondered for a while, "Alright, I’ll give it to you."
"Thank you!" Tu Hengsha said happily.
After Tu Hengsha left, Chen Qi’s frown deepened. After a long time, she got up to make coffee, sighed, and said, "Fine, fine, I’ll just think of it as for the justice of a journalist."
Tu Hengsha gave the video to Hao Ren. With this, at least it could prove that there were no lies in their reporting, and that Liu Hong and her daughter were indeed victims of domestic violence.
"Keep it for now, don’t release it yet," Tu Hengsha told Hao Ren.
"Yeah, that’s what I think too. I’ll wait until I’ve thoroughly investigated everything, then release it all together," Hao Ren said.
Tu Hengsha fell into thought.
"What are you thinking about?" Hao Ren asked curiously.
"Hao Ren, have you offended anyone?" she asked, propping her chin.
Hao Ren thought for a moment, "In our line of work, over the years, how could I not have offended anyone? Maybe even without me realizing it!"
Tu Hengsha nodded and didn’t say more.
"I contacted Liu Hong’s mother last night; we’ve arranged a meeting for this morning. Let’s go," Hao Ren quickly drank a mouthful of water and urged her to get up.
Su Ronggui hadn’t come out of the editor’s office yet, and Tu Hengsha glanced at his seat, then left with Hao Ren.
Liu Hong’s family was in another place, more than two hours’ drive from Yanbei.
During the ride, she received a call from Su Ronggui asking where she went.
She told the truth, and after she finished speaking, there was silence on the other end.
"What’s the matter?"
"Nothing." His tone was sullen.
She laughed, "Come on, when people say ’nothing,’ they often mean there’s something! So, what’s the matter? Let me guess, hmm... still upset? Alright, wait for me to come back and apply the ointment for you, okay?"
"Then... don’t go back on your word." When he said this, he sounded a bit childish.
She was inexplicably touched by this childishness, feeling her heart soften, "I won’t go back on my word! Wait for me."
Only then did he let it go. After some small talk, they hung up, but Tu Hengsha held her phone, her expression growing heavier.
"What’s wrong?" This time Hao Ren asked her.
"Nothing," she smiled.
"Come on, when people say ’nothing,’ they often mean there’s something!" Hao Ren mimicked her tone.
This time she truly laughed, "There is something, but, also there’s nothing."
"That’s deep. Since when did you start learning Zen?" Hao Ren joked.
"Some things, if you don’t treat them as issues, even big issues aren’t issues!" She said softly, watching the scenes flash by the car window.
Hao Ren arranged to meet Liu Hong’s mother in a teahouse in the city, but even after waiting for an hour, she didn’t show up.
"Let’s go to her house!" Hao Ren decided after another half hour had passed.
The two immediately took a cab to Liu Hong’s family home and ran directly into Liu Hong’s mother, who was sitting at the door picking vegetables.
Seeing them, she hurriedly tried to retreat into the house and close the door.
Hao Ren rushed over, bracing the door with his arm and forcing it open with brute strength.
Liu’s mother was both angry and anxious, "What are you two doing? I don’t want to see you, have nothing to say, and you should stop coming to me. Just leave me alone!"
"Auntie, we’re not here to cause trouble; we want to show you something." Hao Ren played the video Tu Hengsha had given him for her.
Liu’s mother wanted to stubbornly avoid watching, but because it was her daughter and granddaughter, she couldn’t help sneaking glances. After only a few moments, tears started streaming down her face, and she finally pushed the phone away, "Why are you forcing an old woman like me? Stop pressuring me, please!"
"Auntie, we’re not pressuring you. I just don’t understand why, even though it’s your daughter being beaten, you still don’t want to stand up for her?" Hao Ren turned off the video, frowning.
Liu’s mother cried out, "What’s the use? After all, she killed someone. No matter who hit whom, she’s still a murderer! Doesn’t she have to pay with her life? Doesn’t she have to go to jail? What’s the point of saying more now? Better to let those alive live well!"
