Mr. Su's Love Investigation Report -
Chapter 127 Unfamiliar
Chapter 127: Chapter 127 Unfamiliar
It was just that he did not come forward to grab her wrist like at noon and say to her, "I have something to tell you."
Her steps hesitated slightly, but she did not stop and walked straight into the subway tunnel.
He did not call out to her; in fact, he did not even move a step, just watching as her figure disappeared into the subway.
The car he called also arrived, with hazard lights flashing in front of him, and he withdrew his gaze and got in.
The car drove in the opposite direction under the setting sun.
It was already late at night, and the Su family’s house was still lit; Su Ronggui had not returned.
Su Rongxing tossed and turned in bed, knocking on the mattress and kicking, unable to sleep, and kept calling Su Ronggui, but he never picked up, and finally, he even turned off his phone!
She regretted a little, knowing she shouldn’t have sulked with him and should have brought him back right after work!
Meanwhile, in the master bedroom, Su Zhen was already asleep, but Shang Qingmei was still wide-eyed, without a hint of sleepiness. Her son had never stayed out late without informing them, but she dared not let Su Zhen know. Su Zhen’s favorite saying was "A harmonious family brings prosperity," especially since they were such a complex family. Her biggest fear was a conflict among the children. In the afternoon, Su Rongxing came back to complain, which made her both frustrated and angry. She wasn’t just angry at her son, but also at Su Rongxing! After so many years in the Su family, they had treated Su Rongxing like a princess, but she never became close, and was always causing trouble arrogantly!
As a result, both women had a sleepless night because Su Ronggui was nowhere to be seen until morning.
During breakfast, Su Zhen asked, "Where’s Ronggui? Still not up?"
"No, he... went on a business trip." Shang Qingmei could only reply this way. But when had Su Ronggui ever gone on a trip without telling the family?
"Ronggui’s hand hasn’t even healed yet, and he’s already on a business trip?" Su Rongcheng pushed his empty bowl aside like a king, and Xin Wan picked it up to fill it with porridge.
"Who knows!" Shang Qingmei answered vaguely.
"That’s not right, second brother was saying just last night that he would buy a gift for sister today!" The naïve Su Rongyu bit into an abalone pastry, scattering crumbs all over the plate.
"Can’t he take a sudden business trip?" Shang Qingmei flared up, "Look at how you’re eating! Dropping crumbs everywhere! How old are you?"
Su Rongyu just felt wronged by the sudden scolding and mumbled to himself, lowering his head to quietly eat his breakfast.
Su Rongxing couldn’t even eat her breakfast, placed down her bowl, grabbed her bag, and hurried to the newspaper office. As soon as she stepped into the editorial platform, she saw him sitting among the crowded desks.
It was still early, and he was the only one there, having changed his clothes, yet still all in black, exuding a lonely and solitary vibe.
"Su Ronggui..." She choked up, walked over, and pushed his shoulder, "Where were you last night? I was worried sick!"
He ignored her.
So she rested her head on his shoulder, "I was wrong! Really wrong! Please don’t ignore me! I promise I won’t make the same mistake again! Will you forgive me?"
He squared his shoulders and gently pushed her head away.
"No!" She insisted, leaning against him, "Don’t push me away! Promise me you won’t stay mad at me! I promise to listen to you from now on!"
Voices came from outside the door; colleagues were arriving for work.
"Promise me first!" Su Rongxing’s tears were smeared on him.
He finally sighed, "Sit down first."
She was overjoyed, "So, you’re not mad anymore?"
"I said, just this once," his tone did not relax in the slightest.
"Alright!" She finally sat happily at her own seat.
When Tu Hengsha arrived at work, she unexpectedly found a gift box pressed under various drafts and newspapers on her desk. It was quite a surprise—if not for the attached letter addressed to her, she wouldn’t have believed it was for her.
A gift?
She was someone who rarely received gifts.
However, she was familiar with the handwriting on the envelope; it seemed to be from Su Ronggui?
She unfolded the letter but did not touch the gift.
The letter was brief, only a few lines, offering an apology, on his behalf as well as for Su Rongxing. So, was this box filled with a gift of apology?
Unfortunately, she didn’t care for it. She didn’t even want Su Rongxing’s face-to-face apology, so why would she accept this supposed apology gift? Especially from him?
She weighed the box in her hand—small and light—and tossed it aside.
Later, she found a chance, carried the box, and sought him out.
His eyes were bloodshot. This was the first thing she noticed when their eyes met, but she didn’t focus on it. She merely held up the box, "This... I’m returning it to you."
The box was intact, indicating she hadn’t even opened it.
He remained silent, but he didn’t take the box back.
Tu Hengsha directly placed the box on his arm cast, where it sat securely on the plaster.
"Did you read the letter?" he asked, and immediately realized it was a foolish question—of course, she read the letter, or else how would she have found him?
"I did," she said, "But I still don’t understand the reason for me to receive a gift, nor do I understand why you would give one. If it’s as your letter says, a form of apology, then I can’t accept it, because I absolutely won’t accept your apology, nor will I forgive you, whether you apologize or not. It’s the same result: I dislike you, and you dislike me. So there’s no need for unnecessary gestures."
His eyes narrowed slightly, catching the key point in her words, "You dislike me?"
"Yes! I won’t beat around the bush. I just dislike you and Su Rongxing." She appeared straightforward, almost nonchalant.
"You certainly get right to it..." A shadow passed over his face, "It wasn’t given to you as an apology."
"Oh? If not for an apology, then I understand even less the reason. We aren’t that close to be exchanging gifts, far from it. We’re more the type who would split the bill over a drink. So this gift I absolutely cannot accept! Goodbye, Mr. Su." Gift returned, mission accomplished—no need to say more.
"Wait!" He placed a hand on her shoulder, pulling her back.
"Is there something else, Mr. Su?" She smiled slightly, mocking, "Is it to teach me how to use others’ privacy to write high click-rate articles? Sorry, I don’t want to learn. You’ve already taught a capable disciple; that should satisfy you."
"You have quite the mouth..." He exhaled, "Are you really claiming not to know me?"
"Yes, we’re not familiar. We don’t interfere with each other outside of work hours and space." Her words flowed smoothly—she had rehearsed them many times. Speaking them brought her satisfaction, but inside, it felt like a jar of vinegar had overturned, sending waves of bitterness upwards.
