Chapter 121: Butterfly Hair Comb

Chapter 121: Chapter 121: Butterfly Hair Comb

Mr. Su from the small alley pocketed his phone and strode away.

Su family.

Late at night, everything was silent as Su Ronggui opened the door. Suddenly, a loud shout came from the darkness, "Hey!" Then a shadow rushed over, knocking him off balance.

"Ah? Su Ronggui, sorry! I didn’t mean to! Did it hurt your hand?" The light turned on, and Su Rongxing hurriedly looked at his arm.

"It’s fine." He steadied himself and walked toward the stairs.

"Huh? What’s this?" Su Rongxing suddenly said.

His expression changed, and he turned back to see Su Rongxing picking up a small hair comb from the floor.

"It’s so pretty! Is it for me? Can I have it?" Su Rongxing held the comb, unable to put it down.

"No!" He refused without hesitation.

Su Rongxing was shocked. She had never been denied a request by Su Ronggui since she was a child!

"This comb belonged to my grandma. It was a wedding gift from my grandpa to her." He explained upon seeing her reaction.

"Oh..." Su Rongxing felt a bit embarrassed to ask again but was unwilling to give up, "Well... I really like it... Su Ronggui, could you lend it to me for a few days?"

Su Ronggui’s brow gradually furrowed, "Rongxing, if you like it, I’ll buy you a new one next time. This one is really not an option."

Actually, what good things had Su Rongxing not seen? Such a small hair comb was really nothing, but the more she couldn’t get it, the more she wanted it. So she couldn’t bring herself to put it down, her fingers caressing it, "I just like this... This little butterfly design is so cute... Then I will buy Grandma a new one, a whole set. Can I keep this one? Su Ronggui..."

"Rongxing, you can’t have it?" Shang Qingmei’s voice rang out.

"It’s this..." Su Rongxing would habitually use Shang Qingmei, who would undoubtedly side with her.

She ran over to show the comb to Shang Qingmei, "I like this. Su Ronggui said it’s his grandma’s and won’t give it to me. I’ve said I’ll buy a whole new set to replace it for Grandma. Won’t that work? I really like this one!"

Shang Qingmei took a look, "What’s there to replace? Stuff like this, his grandma has plenty, several boxes of them! Just play with it if you like!"

"Thank you, Auntie!" Su Rongxing immediately felt triumphant and smiled at Su Ronggui.

Su Ronggui’s expression darkened slightly, and he walked straight up to Su Rongxing, "Hand it over!"

Su Rongxing’s expression changed, "Su... Su Ronggui."

"Su Ronggui!" Shang Qingmei was also angry, "How can you treat your sister this way? She wants something from you, and you refuse! Are you still a child? Aren’t you ashamed at your age? Growing up backward?"

Su Ronggui did not argue, he just stood firm with a stern face.

Su Rongxing looked at him pitifully, tears almost falling.

"Su Ronggui! Go to your room immediately!" Shang Qingmei was truly furious.

The commotion in the living room alarmed Su Zhen, who came out to ask what was going on, "What’s happened?"

Shang Qingmei didn’t want Su Zhen to know it was about the late grandma’s things, so she covered it up, "Isn’t it just Ronggui making his sister upset as a brother, nothing serious! I told him to reflect well! Ronggui? Aren’t you going to your room?"

Su Ronggui stood still without moving.

Su Zhen was a wise man, seeing through signs easily, so he straightforwardly asked the daughter, "Rongxing, tell me what truly happened."

Reluctantly, Su Rongxing took out the comb and recounted the incident, "Dad, I just like it... I know it’s Grandma’s... but can’t I replace it with a new one for her?"

Su Zhen’s face darkened, "Give it back to Ronggui!"

"..." Su Rongxing pouted, unwilling to comply.

"Still not returning it to Ronggui?" Su Zhen raised his voice too.

Su Rongxing bit her lip, her eyes reddening, and she threw the comb at Su Ronggui with a twist and then ran off.

The comb fell to the ground with a snap, and a bead popped out, spinning on the floor.

"This..." Su Zhen was exasperated, "That girl! Ronggui, I’ll talk to Rongxing about her temper! As for this piece, I know some old craftsmen, and I’ll take you to see them for repairs."

Su Ronggui picked up the comb and bead, spoke softly, "No need, Dad. I’ll buy a new one for Rongxing tomorrow. It’s my fault for upsetting her."

Su Zhen laughed, "You’re so sensible! Rongxing has everything, just loves excitement! Don’t mind her! Go, rest in your room! Take care of your arm!"

"Thanks, Dad. I’ll head to my room then." As he passed Shang Qingmei, he nodded, "Mom, goodnight."

Shang Qingmei kept a stern face, ignoring him.

He paused, then went upstairs.

Once Su Ronggui’s figure disappeared, Su Zhen said, "You too, let the kids resolve their own issues. They’re grown up, no need for you to interfere."

In front of her husband, Shang Qingmei was very coy, "Aren’t I just afraid of Rongxing feeling wronged? Ronggui is a boy, and can take a beating, but a girl is different. I’m the stepmother, even a bit of grievance makes me uneasy."

"You, you think too much! Let’s go, let’s rest!" Su Zhen patted her on the shoulder. The night at the Su family finally began properly.

The following day, as Su Ronggui opened his door, there stood Su Rongxing, her eyes swollen, evidently crying last night as her face was pale, looking quite disheveled.

She bowed her head, sniffled, "Su Ronggui, is it that... you don’t like me anymore?"

He was silent for a moment, "How could that be? Of course not."

"I thought you might... might hate me now..." Su Rongxing’s lips quivered, and she cried, her already beautiful face looking woefully pitiful like a tear-streaked blossom.

"No! It’s my fault. After work today, I’ll take you shopping to pick out a gift you like." He said gently.

"I don’t want a gift! Just don’t be mad at me!" Saying this, Su Rongxing threw herself into his arms, "Su Ronggui, it’s my fault. I know it was Grandma’s, so important to you. I didn’t mean to break it!"

"Mm, I know," he said softly, "Let’s go downstairs to eat, got to go to work."

"Alright! As long as you aren’t mad at me, everything is fine!" She smiled through her tears and walked arm in arm with him downstairs.

Seeing them come down hand in hand, Su Zhen teased Shang Qingmei, "Look, look how well the kids get along! You’re just worrying unnecessarily!"

Shang Qingmei smiled briefly, "Yes, yes, you’re always right! It’s all my fault!"

"See, still not convinced!" Su Zhen pointed at her, laughing.

Although Shang Qingmei smiled, her expression gradually turned pensive.

After breakfast, everyone left the house, Shang Qingmei asked the driver, "Take me somewhere."

The place she wanted to go was Yangrou Geda Alley.

By then, Fan Yue and Cui Pei had gone to work. Grandma Xu was home alone; hearing a noise, she came out to see and was surprised, "It’s you..."
