Chapter 42: 42, Titus Zane is injured

Titus Zane fell ill and wasn’t taken to the hospital; it was a private doctor who came to see him at home.

In his room on the fourth floor, Titus Zane leaned against the bed, his usually clear, cold eyes now swollen and lifeless as he stared ahead, while the doctor treated the injury on his forehead.

In fact, the injury on his forehead wasn’t serious, but his right leg was badly hurt. The muscles in his shin were strained, and he couldn’t move freely; there was no miracle cure, and all he could do was lie in bed and recuperate.

The devil’s curse still echoed in his ears, "Titus Zane, now you can experience the taste of being unable to move freely..."

Uncontrollably, Titus Zane shuddered. Deep down, he feared Nathan Moore, this demon.

Nathan Moore was the same age as Titus Zane, actually half a year younger than him.

During the time Olivia Zane was hospitalized, Titus Zane held deep guilt and apologies towards Nathan Moore, so even when treated coldly, he felt he deserved it.

However, the guilt transformed into hatred at the moment he was possessed by him—a bone-deep loathing. But now, that hatred somehow got replaced by fear, one that stemmed from deep within the heart.

Sometimes Titus Zane truly hated his own cowardice.

If he could have been stronger, if he could have been more selfish, if he could have been braver, perhaps he would have freed himself long ago.

Doctor Li finished applying the last strip of medical tape and began packing his medical kit, reminding while doing so.

"The bandaging is done. Do not get the wound wet before it heals, otherwise, it will scar. The strain in your right leg tendon is severe, and there’s also a slight dislocation of the hip bone. It’s been corrected, but you should not walk about for the near future, as it may dislocate again."

"How soon is the near future?" asked Titus Zane, turning his gaze, his face pale as paper, as he looked at Doctor Li somewhat blankly.

Doctor Li, still packing his medical kit, glanced up at him, his brow tightening imperceptibly for a moment before returning to his task.

"At least a half-month, but it varies from person to person. Someone with good physical constitution might recover fairly well in ten days, while for those with weaker constitution, it might not heal even in a month."

"Thank you." As Doctor Li shouldered his medical kit and was about to leave the room, Titus Zane mechanically said his thanks and then turned his vacant gaze back to the front.

Nathan Moore stood in the hallway of the fourth floor, a cigarette pinched between his fingers, leaning against the wall; the curling smoke stung his eyes, his downcast glance concealing his emotions.

"You went too far," said Doctor Li as he walked past him, patting him on the shoulder with a meaningful tone.

Nathan Moore looked up, his gaze following Doctor Li until he disappeared around the stairwell corner, then slowly lifted his hand, pulling on the cigarette between his lips, his dark eyes narrowing slightly.

Auntie Liu came by carrying a small bowl of chicken soup, politely greeting the man smoking in the corridor.

"Sir."

Nathan Moore glanced indifferently without responding, but as Auntie Liu entered Titus Zane’s room, he flicked the cigarette butt onto the Marble floor and followed her in.

"Young Miss, I’ve stewed some chicken soup for you. It’s got ginseng and a few other medicinal herbs, all good for your health. Have it while it’s hot, it’ll help you recover quicker," said Auntie Liu.

Titus Zane turned his head to look at the housekeeper standing by the bed, his gaze dull. After a long while, he reached out to take the soup bowl and said softly, "Thank you," then lifted the bowl to start drinking the soup.

"Take this first," Nathan Moore spoke up aptly, just before the chicken soup touched his lips.
