Chapter 19: 19. Titus Zane felt that he was the superfluous one.
Ariana Evans specially arranged to take the day off with her colleagues today, knowing that her daughter was coming home, staying in the kitchen and busily working alongside the nanny.
Shortly after ten o’clock, a black Bentley slowly stopped in front of the Zane family’s villa gate.
The driver got out of the car, jogging around to the rear to open the trunk and retrieve a wheelchair, unfolding it on the ground, then quickly moved to the back passenger door and pulled it open.
Titus Zane also got out of the car, standing next to the Bentley and not in a hurry to go inside.
A breeze blew by, lifting her long hair and the beige trench coat. She tightened the open front of her coat, slightly turned her head, and although her long hair covered half of her cheek, it couldn’t hide the chill in her demeanor.
There was a time when the three of them came home together, and because she had entered the villa first, Nathan Moore later pinned her down on the bed and gave her a harsh lesson.
So, to avoid punishment, Titus Zane could only wait on the side.
Nathan Moore got out of the car, draped his coat over Olivia Zane’s body before picking her up and placing her in the wheelchair, his movements practiced and natural, and yet exceedingly careful.
Then he pushed the wheelchair through the villa’s gate.
Only then did Titus Zane follow behind.
The early spring breeze, always capricious and unrestrained, carried no warmth on the face but rather added a touch of coldness.
Olivia Zane, because of the trench coat draped over her by Nathan Moore and a blanket covering her legs, wasn’t affected at all.
Titus Zane couldn’t help but shiver and tightened her coat again. Ever since the blood loss, she had become particularly sensitive to the cold, and her already pale face looked even whiter.
"Mom, I’m back..." As soon as she entered, Olivia Zane called out happily, and Ariana Evans turned around to give an instruction to the kitchen, then came over to greet her.
"You’re all back, come in quick, it’s cold outside."
Nathan Moore nodded as a greeting and then continued to push Olivia inside.
Ariana Evans frowned subtly without a word, but when she saw her eldest daughter following behind the two, she quickly walked over, took her daughter’s hand, and looked her up and down, her brows furrowing.
"How come you’ve lost even more weight in just a few days?"
Titus Zane said with a smile, "Mom, didn’t you know? Losing weight is the trend now."
"Nonsense," Ariana Evans frowned disapprovingly, "You’re already so thin, what’s left to lose? You’ll be blown away by the wind if you lose any more."
"Wouldn’t that be great, a free trip," Titus Zane joked, a rare instance for her.
"This child," Ariana Evans affectionately tapped her head.
"Mom, where’s dad?" Olivia Zane didn’t see her father, Julian Zane, so she asked her mother.
Her father had always been exceedingly fond of her since she was young, and she was just as dependent on him.
"Your dad is upstairs in the study, he said he has a video conference going on," replied Ariana Evans, leading her eldest daughter into the living room and casually closing the door behind them.
"I’ll go up and have a look." Olivia Zane said and was about to move the wheels of her chair, but Ariana Evans stopped her.
"You child, it’s so inconvenient going up and down the stairs. Don’t bother Nathan with that."
"Mom!" Olivia Zane pouted, pretending to be unhappy, "Nathan doesn’t mind the trouble, why should you!"
"Olivia, uncle is talking about work, let’s not disturb him," Nathan Moore spoke up, and Olivia Zane didn’t insist anymore,
"Alright then."
Wherever she was, Titus Zane always felt like an extra.
Just like now, even though she was in her own home, where a few people could chat happily together, she was the one who seemed superfluous.
