Chapter 398: Chapter 398 Let’s Get Married (20) Chapter 398: Chapter 398 Let’s Get Married (20) “I’m not going,” he said as he rubbed her hair, without a hint of hesitation.

Her raspy voice tightened his embrace a little more.

“You don’t need to go to the company?” Lu Wanwan was surprised.

Would Gu Annan really set aside company matters for her?

“I’ve been so busy the past few days, but now I have some time,” his voice was soft and his speech measured, “after Madam Ye’s funeral, we’ll head back to Gu Mansion.”

Even though their world in the apartment was better and it was convenient for him to go to Gu Corporation, it didn’t suit the current situation.

Returning to Gu Mansion, she would be taken care of better, and most importantly, she would be safer.

Perhaps, the death of Madam Ye was aimed at her.

Just the thought that someone he had yet to identify might want to hurt her made him unable to relax.

“Gu Annan, what’s wrong?” Lu Wanwan suddenly felt suffocated, and when she looked up, the bone-chilling coldness and sternness in his expression even frightened her.

“It’s nothing,” he pulled his thoughts back, his thumb gently stroking around her swollen eyes, “Madam Ye’s affairs are being handled by someone. As for before the burial…”

“I want to bring her home,” Lu Wanwan said with a tightened brow, insisting, “She should be brought back to her own house.”

Lu Mansion, as it stands now, was once Ye Mansion.

How ironic. Initially, her father’s family was ordinary, and his marriage to her mother was not considered an equal match. To make things easier for him, apart from letting him enter the top echelons of the Ye Corporation, life was made to resemble that of an average family, allowing him to be the head of the household.

Who would have thought, in the end, everything belonging to the Ye Family changed its surname, and even the people living in the old Ye Mansion had nothing to do with the Ye Family anymore.

Grandmother had a dispute with her father in the past and never returned to that place she had lived in for decades after falling ill.

“Eat something first, we’ll go over when they are ready.”

Lu Wanwan had assumed he would have a subordinate bring up lunch, but instead, she saw him make a call and then walk into the kitchen.

Four years ago, when her mother passed away, she felt her entire world was plunged into darkness. She still can’t quite remember how she got through those days, even refusing a psychologist.

It took a while before she slowly accepted the reality, but she still dared not reminisce about that time.

Seeing her grandmother’s corpse still left her somewhat dazed. Her mind was cluttered, and as soon as she was alone, the extreme fear and pain in her heart would overwhelm her.

She always felt that she could only find a bit of peace in places where she could see him, at least then, she didn’t feel all alone.

“Go outside and wait,” Gu Annan said when he saw her enter the kitchen, that pale little face of hers still devoid of any sparkle.

Lu Wanwan shook her head, stubbornly standing by, her eyes red.

He turned his head, gazing deeply into the insecurity hidden in the depths of her eyes.

She wasn’t having hysterical outbursts; instead, she maintained a quiet demeanor, and only through her eyes could one see she wasn’t strong.

After eating, Lu Wanwan was sent to the front gate of her home, and just as she entered the yard, she heard an argument coming from the gate.

“What’s going on? Why would you bring Old Madam’s body to our house?” Lu Kexin stood at the doorway, speaking rudely, “You all didn’t even ask for our family’s consent!”

Lin Yu was about to speak when her gaze suddenly caught Lu Wanwan.

She jerked her daughter to her side, as Lu Kexin was still indignantly saying, “Is this meant to bring us bad luck on purpose? This is too much, how can they do this!”
