Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Willingly Marry Me

"Hello, Uncle Meng, it’s been a long time."

Meng Tian, still holding her glass of juice, stiffened upon hearing this voice.

She hurriedly took out her phone to message Ye Yan.

Ye Yan had a patient with a sudden emergency, and she had rushed to the hospital at the first opportunity.

There was no reply to her message; she must have still been dealing with the patient.

Meng Tian scanned the room and realized the only place to hide was the restroom, but she couldn’t stay in there forever.

"Indeed, it has been a long time," Meng Yusheng and Tang Jingyao walked into the private room side by side. "The last time I saw you was at Martha’s charity gala."

Mrs. Meng also stood up and welcomed them with a smile.

She noticed Meng Tian still sitting there stunned and immediately started giving frantic eye signals.

"Tiantian," Mrs. Meng called out, "Jingyao Brother is here."

When she was little, that was indeed what she called him.

Their grandfathers had been comrades-in-arms, and back when the elderly were alive, she had visited the Tang Family.

She was only seven or eight years old at the time, and Tang Jingyao, being older, was already a young lad.

She chased after him, playing and calling him Brother Jingyao. In her memory, he was a very cheerful, sunny young man.

Meng Tian suddenly snapped back to reality and confronted Tang Jingyao’s gaze as she turned around.

He was still smiling, appearing much like the friendly boy next door, but his smile was only superficial, and she could feel the chill seeping from him.

Despite the air conditioning already on, she couldn’t help shivering.

If only Ye Yan were here, she could at least cuddle with her for "warmth."

"What are you spacing out for? Call him already," Mrs. Meng reminded her with a smile, "Haven’t seen your Jingyao Brother for a long time, don’t you recognize him?"

"It hasn’t been that long," Tang Jingyao’s smile was polite, even doting as he ruffled Meng Tian’s hair, "I just saw you recently, and Tiantian was very good."

Meng Tian’s eyes widened.

Recently? Was he talking about the time at the hot spring resort?

Subconsciously, she touched her elbow. Though the injury had long since healed, it started to ache faintly at the sight of him.

The Meng couple, realizing the younger pair were familiar with each other, smiled and invited them to take their seats.

Meng Yusheng brought the menu for Tang Jingyao to order.

However, the latter passed the menu directly to Meng Tian. With only four seats, they inevitably had to sit close to each other.

Looking at that slender, cold, and pale hand, Meng Tian thought of how firm and strong it felt when grasping her chin. She had no doubt that if he wished, he could easily crush her bones.

"What would Tiantian like to eat? I remember you liked sweets as a child, do you still like them?" The man’s voice was warm and pleasant. If you didn’t know what a cold-blooded creature he was, you would truly be bewitched.

"Jingyao is talking to you," Mrs. Meng noted her daughter’s prolonged silence and couldn’t help but remind her, "What’s gotten into this child, becoming so impolite? You shouldn’t be hanging around with those brutes every day."

Mrs. Meng was naturally referring to Meng Tian’s colleagues, who were criminal police, working through wind and rain and certainly not focused on appearances.

Meng Tian took the menu, speaking in a lazy tone, "They might be brutes, but they are righteous and kind, unlike some people who look like fallen immortals but have a viper’s heart."

Tang Jingyao’s eyebrows twitched slightly, but the smile on his lips remained, "Tiantian is right."

Meng Tian glanced at him, puzzled. Was something wrong with him today? He seemed off, agreeing with everything she said as if he were an extremely considerate big brother.

Mr. and Mrs. Meng watched the scene unfolding before them with secret delight.

It seemed that the young man from the Tang Family took a bit of a fancy to their daughter. If the two children could truly come together, it would be a beautiful thing.

The generations before them were bound by life-and-death situations, and if the younger ones could fall in love and unite in marriage...

The fantasizing Mr. and Mrs. Meng certainly didn’t know that the two opposite them were secretly at strife.

Meng Tian felt a warmth on her thigh as a hand covered it, with slender knuckles, and a palm warm with heat.

She was wearing a gown today and when she sat down, the hemline shortened significantly, exposing half of her bare thighs.

Her body jolted as if electrocuted, unbelievably glaring at the instigator.

He actually touched her thigh in front of her own parents, his hand clearly performing indecent actions, but his face remained gentle and polite, betraying no flaws.

Yet, Meng Tian dared not move a muscle.

She cared about her face, too. Standing up now to claim that Tang Jingyao had taken liberties with her, her parents would definitely not believe her, after all, he had always behaved like a "good big brother".

Meng Tian’s body grew stiffer and stiffer, and her right hand couldn’t help but cover the man’s hand, attempting to push away that despicable hand.

But his strength was too great, something she had always known.

Her pure strength was simply not enough to halt his malicious progress.

He even lifted her skirt, his hand reaching towards a certain area.

"Excuse me, I’m going to the restroom," Meng Tian abruptly sprung up, startling Mr. and Mrs. Meng across from her.

"This child, becoming more and more unruly, always so jumpy," Mrs. Meng shook her head helplessly, "It seems we need to find time to properly teach you some manners."

Now she was in the police station, out of her own control; once she’s married, she wouldn’t be able to carry on without manners.

Meng Tian fled to the restroom.

"Did Tiantian just drink? Why is her face so red?" Meng Yusheng didn’t dwell on the matter, instead ordering dishes with Tang Jingyao.

"Uncle Meng, auntie," Tang Jingyao’s smile was charming to both young and old, "Actually, I’ve liked Tiantian since I was young."

Mr. and Mrs. Meng were greatly shocked.

Mrs. Meng asked, "I remember Jingyao was engaged before, right?"

They hadn’t attended the engagement banquet, only hearing that it had been called off due to some incident.

The affair was tightly concealed by the Tang Family, known only by a handful of people.

Tang Jingyao, to protect Jiang Ying’s reputation, would certainly not let the public know about her murdering someone and getting caught.

Tang Jingyao’s hand tightened around the cup, a stormy emotion flickering across his eyes, but it quickly returned to a sunny scholarly demeanor.

"Because I was rejected by Tiantian in my pursuit, I had no choice but to just find some woman to marry. But on the day of the engagement, I regretted it," Tang Jingyao’s countenance displayed a sorrowful emotion, "Because I realized that besides Tiantian, I truly didn’t want to marry anyone else."

Mr. and Mrs. Meng exchanged a glance, seeing the disbelief in each other’s eyes.

That Tang Jingyao liked Meng Tian, the news was almost too well-hidden.

"Uncle Meng, auntie, I have sincere feelings for Tiantian, and I hope you two will consider it."

Meng Yusheng came back to his senses from the shock: "Marriage is something for which we will definitely respect Tiantian’s own wishes. Jingyao, if Tiantian doesn’t agree, we won’t force her."

"Don’t worry, Uncle Meng, she’s the little sister I’ve watched grow up since childhood. Perhaps in her eyes, she has always seen me as a brother, but I will move her with my true heart and make her willingly marry me."

He emphasized the words "willingly".
