Mr. Bigshot Is Obsessed with His Hidden-Marriage Wife
Chapter 41: It’s Definitely Not Nostalgia

Chapter 41: Chapter 41: It’s Definitely Not Nostalgia

Lin Yihang sat in front of his office desk, the drawer on his right open, a tiny sealed bag in the corner holding a very common black hair tie.

Lin Yihang couldn’t possibly use such a small accessory; it clearly belonged to a girl.

His thoughts drifted to an art class years ago, where she had to paint with ink and thus removed the black hair tie from her wrist to tie up her hair.

Somehow, she hadn’t handled it properly, and the hair tie had sprung from her hand, landing right on his drawing paper.

She looked around anxiously for it, while he silently pocketed the hair tie, playing the role of a "greedy" kidnapper of property.

He hated her to the bone, was so disgusted he wanted to vomit, yet he kept the hair tie as if possessed, never disposing of it to this day.

He told himself it was a symbol of humiliation he once endured, certainly not a token of remembrance.

Whenever he saw the hair tie, he reminded himself of the hurt she had once inflicted on him.

Bone-deep!

Penetrating into the marrow!

"Mr. Lin," an assistant knocked and entered.

Lin Yihang quickly shut the drawer and locked it.

"Mr. Lin, there’s some bad news," the assistant reported hurriedly, just receiving an update from the front lines, "They’ve got their hands on crucial evidence."

Lin Yihang frowned, clearly displeased, "How useless is Ma Shao’s family, that they can’t even secure a camera?"

Ma Shao was his client, the plaintiff in this case.

"Someone beat us to it," the assistant said with a headache, "Not only that, it seems they’ve even met the victimized girl."

Lin Yihang now looked serious, "Did the defendant change lawyers?"

He was familiar with Xu Lv, a capable attorney, but definitely not one to preempt him; this person, though, seemed to be one step ahead at every turn, as if ready and waiting in the direction he intended to pursue.

"I haven’t heard anything," the assistant shook his head, "Xu Lv is still following up on this case."

"It’s impossible," Lin Yihang tapped the pen in his hand, his brows deepening, "Xu Lv is just a front; they must have switched lawyers."

"But looking around Ao City, who can be faster than you?" the assistant was perplexed.

"If I’m not mistaken, they’ve also obtained evidence of Ma Shao’s car accident," Lin Yihang spoke of something Ma Shao had personally conveyed to him, in his presence daring not to hide anything.

The Ma Family was a local powerhouse on Dangzi Island, not short on money and with a touch of underworld background. Hence, they were dead set on sending the three high school students to juvie for beating Ma Shao.

Actually, finding this information wasn’t difficult, but the opposition’s startling speed ignited a profound sense of crisis within him.

It had been so long since he last felt this sensation.

"Who could it be?" The junior assistant was still pondering, wondering who in the entire legal circle could compete with Mr. Lin.

"Nathan," Lin Yihang slowly breathed out a name.

"Nathan? No way, he hasn’t litigated a single case in Ao City." His fame came from two sensational cases abroad.

However, afterwards, connections were used to expunge all records of those cases, leaving only "legends."

A shadowy figure flitted across Lin Yihang’s mind, somewhat blurred but bearing some resemblance to Nathan.

At first, he was certain Ye Yan could not have found Nathan, but seeing her with Fu Xingzhou, the likelihood ballooned if that man intervened.

Would Fu Xingzhou really go to the lengths of dragging out Nathan for a mere canary?

He had indeed underestimated Ye Yan’s tactics, just like in the past.

"Mr. Lin, what shall we do now?" The assistant, seeing his grim expression, also sensed the troublesome nature of the situation.

It appeared that the other side had gathered plenty of favorable evidence; taking this to court would surely not bode well for them.

He couldn’t fathom why such a minor case had warranted Mr. Lin’s personal involvement. Wasn’t he afraid of taking a fall, which could affect his reputation?

Lin Yihang put down his pen, pinching the bridge of his nose. He truly hadn’t expected Ye Yan to go so far for her brother.

Night fell.

Charming Bar.

Lin Yihang sat comfortably on the sofa of a private booth, where someone handed him an envelope before leaving.

He opened the envelope, took out its contents to examine and his expression remained tense.

This was an investigation on the three high school students during their school years; all of them were model students, the "children from other people’s homes" in the eyes of teachers and classmates. Regardless, no faults could be found.

His gaze landed on one of the photos.

The youth in the photo had deep brown eyes, clear and bright, thick eyebrows, a proud nose, and perfectly shaped lips—a beautiful young man with fine features but a touch of arrogance and coldness in his demeanor.

He had met Ye Zhun before, when he was just a child.

Sitting on the back seat of his sister’s bicycle after school, holding a freshly made sugar figure, the girl riding the bicycle wore her school uniform and her high ponytail exuded youthful vibrance.

Lin Yihang closed the folder, avoiding the boy’s eyes, as if doing so would help him forget those that so closely resembled his own.

He lifted the glass from the table and downed the alcohol in one go, abandoning his usual refined sipping manner.

Two young women nearby had been watching him for some time, perhaps intimidated by his solemn aura and the darkness that made him appear even more foreboding. Their courage to approach him was brewing still.

Lin Yihang drank a good amount of alcohol alone, rejecting the intermediary advances from one woman for his contact information.

The woman was attractive, but he wouldn’t spare her a second glance.

As an adult, he had tried dating, accepting the pursuits of girls, but it always felt bland to him, the novelty not even lasting a week.

He had seen a psychologist who suggested he might have PTSD, a condition stemming from psychological trauma during his teenage years, resulting in aversion and disgust towards the opposite sex.

A waiter came by to open a bottle, the sound of speakers ear-shatteringly loud.

Looking down from here, the center stage below was followed by a vast area of scattered tables, packed with customers at this time.

Lin Yihang picked up his glass, intending to watch the show on stage, when a beam of intense light swept over the crowd and seemed to reveal a familiar face.

The lights twisted and turned, brightening and dimming, the faces of the patrons occasionally clear, occasionally blurred.

When the strong light swept over again, the face became more tangible.

Lin Yihang set his cup heavily on the coffee table, the sound swallowed by the music.

He rose from the booth, leaning against the balcony railing to look down.

On the central stage, several sultry women danced provocatively around poles, their seductive moves like enticing serpents, lavishing their allure and flamboyance on the audience.

At a table near the stage, a man stared at the dancers, entranced, swaying with the music’s rhythm.
