Chapter 236: Chapter 236: Conclusion (Part 2)

"The bullet has been successfully removed, but the patient is not out of danger yet."

"What’s the worst-case scenario?" Ye Yan stepped forward, striving to stay calm, wanting to clearly understand Fu Xingzhou’s current condition.

The doctor, knowing she was also in the same profession, spouted a bunch of technical jargon that others couldn’t understand.

It wasn’t until several doctors had left that Fu Xingrui and Ye Zhun were still looking at each other, puzzled.

"Sister, how is my second brother doing?"

"He has been moved to intensive care," Ye Yan said, feeling as though the voice wasn’t her own. "If he survives these next two days, he will have passed the critical period."

"What did the doctor mean by all that just now?" Fu Xingrui asked anxiously.

A layer of gray fog seemed to envelop Ye Yan’s eyes. "If he wakes up after this critical period, all will be well. But if he doesn’t, he’ll be in a vegetative state."

Upon hearing this, Fu Xingrui, who was over 1.8 meters tall, shivered and barely managed to lean against the wall behind him.

A cloud of gloom hung overhead, the suppression almost suffocating.

After a long time, family members were finally allowed to visit.

Fu Xingrui came out first, then Ye Yan went in.

She wore protective clothing and a mask, her entire body wrapped up very securely.

Seeing the man lying on the hospital bed, Ye Yan’s tears streamed down uncontrollably.

Yesterday, he was fine. She had wanted to eat shrimp wonton noodles, and he had immediately run out to buy them.

Anytime, anywhere, as long as she said a word, he never hesitated.

He had said he would call her after meeting with the medical team yesterday.

He had never broken his promises to her.

Separated by the glass, it felt like they were worlds apart; one small slip, and everything would crumble, forever divided.

"Doctor," Ye Yan suddenly noticed something different and changed her expression.

The doctor hurried over. "Is there an issue with the patient?"

"Why is his right hand always clenched?" Ye Yan pointed to Fu Xingzhou’s right hand resting beside the bed, tightly clenched.

Logically, having just undergone major surgery and still unconscious, he shouldn’t be able to make such a fist.

"That’s something we also found odd," said the doctor. "When the patient was brought in, his right hand was already clenched as if holding something. We tried to open it, but each touch caused significant emotional fluctuations in the patient, and since it didn’t interfere with the surgery, we didn’t dare to proceed recklessly."

Ye Yan stared at his handsome right hand, pale in color, fingers drawn together.

The object he was holding couldn’t be large.

Leaving the ICU, Ye Yan saw Wu Gui leaning against the wall, seemingly waiting for her.

"Mr. Wu Gui, what exactly happened today?"

It was early morning by then, and the sky outside bore a dim, gloomy light.

For some reason, Ye Yan always felt that Wu Gui’s gaze held resentment toward her.

This left her somewhat bewildered. Since their last meeting in Hong Kong, it seemed they had no other interactions, and Wu Gui’s attitude towards her appeared somewhat unfriendly.

"Did you know that Fu had fought two lawsuits abroad?"

"I knew."

"One of those was with a gang faction. Ever since Fu imprisoned their leader, they have never given up on their revenge," Wu Gui explained.

Ye Yan had heard this from Fu Xingzhou.

These people were extremely loyal and vengeful, having attempted assassination on him several times in Hong Kong.

"To ensure his safety, Wushen created a tracking system for him so we could locate him in real-time, no matter where he was," Wu Gui sniffed a cigarette as he spoke. "Today, those people had long been plotting to ambush him under the guise of the medical team’s visit. There were many of them, well equipped. Although Fu had brought quite a few people, he was forced to restrain himself to protect the medical team. By the time we arrived, our side had already suffered heavy casualties, and Fu was gravely injured."

Facing Wu Gui’s bright eyes, Ye Yan suddenly realized something.

She stepped back incredulously. "Is this system now on me?"

Otherwise, she couldn’t explain how Fu Xingzhou had managed to locate her so accurately and swiftly, twice.

She had asked him about it, but he only denied placing a tracker on her, asking her to trust him.

Wu Gui didn’t speak, a helpless smile curling at the corner of his mouth.

"Why is he so foolish? Clearly, he needs it more than I do," Ye Yan regretted deeply. If she had known earlier that Fu Xingzhou had transferred his "safety shield" to her, she definitely would not have agreed.

Especially since at that time, she still hadn’t forgiven him, and their relationship was cold and distant.

But he had done it anyway, without hesitation.

"I knew something would happen sooner or later, and it did," Wu Gui crushed the cigarette in his hand. "He definitely wouldn’t have wanted me to tell you this, but I’m not one to hold back my words."

In truth, he wanted to see Ye Yan’s regret and guilt – it seemed only this could relieve some of the heaviness in his heart.

"Thank you for telling me," Ye Yan suddenly looked up at him.

"Thanks?"

Ye Yanxiao smiled through her tears, "Thank you for letting me know, he loves me this way."

He loved with reckless abandon, loved enough to give up his life.

And she, she loved him just the same.

Because of this love, she had to be strong, she wouldn’t let him become a clueless, vegetative person; she wanted him to wake up.

Ye Yan wiped her tears, "I’m going to rest now."

She could endure, but the child couldn’t.

This was her and Fu Xingzhou’s bond; she had to ensure the child was safe and unharmed.

Two days later, Fu Xingzhou still hadn’t awakened and was transferred to the ICU.

The Fu Family gathered the best medical team for a consultation, but the outlook wasn’t optimistic.

In the debate between waking and not being able to wake, the experts argued incessantly.

Pregnant, Ye Yan couldn’t take care of Fu Xingzhou personally; all she could do was talk to him.

She was curious, what exactly was this thing he had been clutching so tightly in his hand?

Even though he was now in a coma, with no telling when he might awaken, his hand was still clenched into a fist.

There had been signs of loosening already, but Ye Yan hadn’t tried to pry it open.

The clenched hand, perhaps, was his last hope, and as long as this hope remained, there was a chance he would wake up.

Meng Tian and Tang Jingyao’s wedding proceeded as planned.

Their union caused a sensation throughout Ao City.

Meanwhile, Jiang Ying’s case was officially sentenced; she was sentenced to death for intentional homicide, with a three-year reprieve!

Ye Yan returned from the wedding, bringing back wedding favors.

She unwrapped a piece of candy and placed it next to Fu Xingzhou’s mouth, "This is the wedding candy from your good brother. He’s sorry you couldn’t attend, but he said when his child is born, he wishes his child and our son to become sworn brothers. Of course, I didn’t agree, fearing his child might also be a boy."

Ye Yan put the candy in her mouth, smiling sweetly, "Fu Xingzhou, what exactly are you holding in your hand? I really want to see."

With lips sweetened by sugar, she gently kissed his lips, "Please wake up, will you? Once you’re awake, we’ll renew our vows, have a wedding. Tiantian looked beautiful in a wedding dress, truly happy."

Ye Yan rambled on, suddenly feeling something touch her hand.

She looked down to see Fu Xingzhou’s hand, which had been clenched, showing signs of loosening.

The machine beside them started to show changing data.

Doctors quickly arrived, followed by a flurry of tests and procedures.

When the doctors left, Ye Yan cautiously approached.

Fu Xingzhou’s vital signs were returning to normal, but the doctors said he hadn’t fully regained consciousness yet.

"Fu Xingzhou."

Ye Yan grabbed one of his hands, tears streaming down her face, "Husband."

"I command you, wake up now, otherwise I’ll, I’ll..."

As Ye Yan struggled to think of a threat, she heard a weak, hoarse voice, "Or what?"

Overjoyed, Ye Yan couldn’t restrain herself and hugged him tightly, "I’ll cling to you for a lifetime."

Fu Xingzhou opened his eyes; the lights had been dimmed, so he wasn’t dazzled.

But in his eyes, her bright smile still made everything flicker.

He lifted his hand and slowly opened it before her, revealing a shining wedding ring lying in his pale palm.

At that time, the enemy had meant to blow up the car, but the ring had remained inside.

Fu Xingzhou, risking his life, went back to retrieve the ring from the car.

What happened next, he couldn’t remember, but in his subconscious, he kept telling himself not to let go.

If he did, he feared his Yanyan would never come back.

Ye Yan recognized the ring; they had picked it out together.

It was a testament to their love along the way.

Fu Xingzhou’s hand was still weak, so Ye Yan helped steady his wrist, allowing him to slide the ring onto her ring finger.

She placed their hands together, the two rings touching and naturally forming the shape of a heart.

She still remembered inscribing the inside of the ring.

In her heart, she had made a wish: "In your name, under your surname, the stars shall not fall, and the years shall not startle."

Their hands touched, fingers intertwined.

Thus, in the heavens, as paired wings, and on earth, a joined root.

A lifetime, side by side!
