Chapter 199: Chapter 199: A Handsome Man Causes Trouble
He hadn’t changed clothes all day, still wearing that summer-style fitted black shirt.
It was probably worn for some formal occasion as he was wearing a tie.
Now, the tie hung loosely and his sleeves were carelessly rolled up; half of his face turned toward her, the line of his jaw perfectly smooth, as if it were a favorite creation of God.
Ye Yan found herself staring blankly without realizing it.
"Do you have a tape measure?"
Fu Xingzhou’s words pulled Ye Yan back from her daydreaming.
She quickly returned to normal, silently cursing the dangers of beauty.
Ye Yan found a tape measure and handed it over.
Fu Xingzhou reached out and touched her fingers.
Even though the contact was so slight, and he was wearing gloves, Ye Yan still recoiled as if shocked, hastily moving to the side.
She hung her head, her face flushing red, picked up Sijiu and sat on the sofa to ease the awkwardness.
Fu Xingzhou finished reading the assembly instructions and began clinking and clanking as he worked on the assembly.
Ye Yan was initially looking at her phone, but later, she found herself unwittingly drawn to his movements.
Everything he did was as smooth as flowing water, a pleasure to the eye.
These boards and screws seemed to perform magic in his hands.
Each part fit together tightly and perfectly.
It was truly a blessing for anyone with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Fu Xingzhou eventually finished assembling the cat climbing frame, and Ye Yan, like a faithful audience, watched from beginning to end.
It must be said that the combined frame was both aesthetically pleasing and stately.
It had a climbing ladder, a hanging basket, and Sijiu’s favorite wooden rolling ball.
Sijiu was eager and, as soon as the frame was in place, jumped up to explore, touching here and looking there.
"It’s really nice," said Ye Yan, circling the frame several times, just like Sijiu.
"May I use your bathroom?" Fu Xingzhou asked after he finished the frame; he was sweating a lot, and it was particularly uncomfortable with his clothes sticking to him.
Ye Yan nodded.
Fu Xingzhou entered the bathroom, and soon the sound of splashing water could be heard.
He was taking a shower.
Ye Yan had been admiring the cat climbing frame, but now, hearing this sound, she couldn’t help but blush and feel her heart race.
She must be crazy, not only allowing him into her home,
but even permitting him to shower in her house.
Even for a man and woman with an ambiguous relationship, this was too much.
While Ye Yan was feeling restless and uneasy, the bathroom door suddenly opened; Fu Xingzhou peeked out, "Are my clothes still there?"
Ye Yan reflexively glanced over.
Although the steam filled the air inside, his silhouette was still visible.
The cold white skin, the long and substantial figure, the water droplets continuously falling from his wet hair.
Ye Yan quickly turned her gaze away, her voice unnatural, "I’ll get them."
Damn it, even though they were both divorced, she hadn’t thrown away the clothes he’d left here.
Ye Yan pulled out Fu Xingzhou’s loungewear from the bottom of the wardrobe.
The bathroom door was left slightly ajar, the sound of water still ongoing.
Did this man really treat this place as his own, so unreservedly?
She was his ex-wife, not his current partner.
Ye Yan draped the clothes over the door handle, about to speak, when Fu Xingzhou’s head emerged again.
Thankfully, he had some sense of decency and didn’t fully expose himself in front of her; the door shielded everything below his neck.
"Pass them to me."
His arm was streaked with water trails, each muscle perfectly defined without being excessively prominent, yet hinting at the strength they contained.
He took the clothes from Ye Yan’s hand and said thank you.
Ye Yan hurried back to the living room, touched her face, which was very red, and then her chest, which was beating rapidly.
She felt she was truly losing her mind.
Seeing how he looked just then, she couldn’t help but reminisce about the times they had been intimately entwined.
She liked to grab his arm, liked to scratch his tattoo.
When emotions ran deep, she would shatteringly cry out his name, forced to say "I love you" over and over by him.
Ye Yan shook her head forcefully, casting these salacious thoughts from her mind.
She got up and walked to the kitchen, poured herself a glass of water, and drank it; only then did her restless heart start to calm down.
After he finished washing up, she had to rush him to leave immediately.
But it seemed like even the heavens were on his side.
A bolt of lightning streaked across the night sky, illuminating the entire room.
Soon after, the thunder rolled in from afar, like thousands of troops banging their war drums, charging through the clouds.
Ye Yan used to be afraid of thunder, but she had improved a lot after the incident with Li Jin.
In that situation, her will to survive, and the protection of her unborn child, had given her a mother’s strength.
She had to overcome her fear to ensure her own safety and that of her child.
Later, when Fu Xingzhou arrived, she curled up in his embrace, which felt like the strongest rampart in the world.
No matter how fiercely lightning flashed or thunder boomed outside, she could hide within and be hurt by nothing.
"Ye Yan." Fu Xingzhou obviously heard the thunder too and didn’t even have time to change clothes before he rushed out wrapped in a bath towel.
Ye Yan’s eyes were suddenly struck by his alluring form, and for a moment, she even forgot the frightening thunder.
Boom!
Ye Yan jerked, already pulled into his embrace.
"Don’t be afraid."
His body still wet, drops of water from his hair falling onto the nape of her neck, cascading along her delicate throat and drowning in the beautiful hollow of her clavicle.
Fu Xingzhou held her tight, his face pressed against the side of her ear, "Don’t be afraid, it’s just thunder."
Ye Yan nervously clutched his waist, her body still trembling slightly.
That day in the tunnel was the same; in the midst of thunder, she felt despair, and he descended like a god from the heavens.
With his embrace, she wasn’t so afraid.
Fu Xingzhou picked her up: "I’ll stay with you until you fall asleep, then you won’t hear it anymore."
As if under a spell, she obediently nodded her head.
After Ye Yan settled in, Fu Xingzhou covered her with a light blanket.
Outside, the sound of thunder had dissipated, replaced by pitter-patter of heavy raindrops hitting the ground.
The raindrops beat against the glass, gathering into rivulets.
Ye Yan tried to close her eyes.
Strangely, in such weather in the past, she couldn’t sleep at all, and just wanted to find a shell to shut herself away.
But because Fu Xingzhou was by her side, she felt an unprecedented sense of safety.
He held her hand, his breathing entwining near her.
Without him needing to speak, she drifted off to sleep.
The rain continued, growing heavier.
Ye Yan had never slept so peacefully on a rainy day before.
So much so that when she woke up, she felt completely relaxed.
She was just about to stretch when suddenly she sensed someone beside her.
Turning her gaze, she saw the man’s bare shoulder and his perfect sleeping face.
Ye Yan startled, but quickly remembered the previous night’s events.
Upon looking at Fu Xingzhou, she saw he was still only wrapped in that bath towel, with half his long legs hanging off the bed.
Because she occupied most of the bed, his sleeping position looked uncomfortable.
She didn’t know what time he had fallen asleep.
Ye Yan’s emotions were complex.
Where had things gone wrong, leading them into this indistinct entanglement once again?
She shifted slightly to the side and took the blanket from her body to cover him.
But the moment she moved, he woke up.
