Chapter 153: Chapter 153: Is This the Result She Wanted?
The Li Family and the Fu Family had a collaborative project on the horizon, just short of signing the contract.
Although Li Xiuze didn’t usually handle business matters, his entire family was bound together, sharing both honor and disgrace.
The incident caused by Li Wanru could potentially implicate the entire Li Family.
"I just called my father, and after their consultation, they’re willing to give up three points of profit for the project," Li Xiuze sat next to Fu Xingzhou, lowering his voice, "Wanru has been spoiled since she was young and doesn’t know the severity of her actions. Please, for my sake, let her stay home and reflect for a month. How about that?"
Fu Xingzhou stared at the door of the operating room, his voice distant, "However you want to deal with it is fine, just keep her away from me."
Li Xiuze gave Li Wanru a look, signaling her to leave immediately.
Although Li Wanru was reluctant, thinking that Fu Xingzhou was willing to let her off easy this time, she felt lucky to have escaped a bullet.
Staying here would only provoke him to change his mind.
If nothing serious had happened to Ye Yan, it would be alright, but if something worse occurred, she feared Fu Xingzhou might make her suffer alongside him.
In this affair, Ye Yan was the main instigator, but without her cooperation, it wouldn’t have been possible.
Her selfishness was simple, by letting Ye Yan go, she would have a chance to be with Fu Xingzhou.
After Li Wanru left, Li Xiuze then said, "Dr. Ye will be fine, don’t worry too much."
"It’s my fault again," Fu Xingzhou stared emotionlessly at the red light in front of him, the glaring color seeming to remind him constantly of the blood Ye Yan had lost, "I shouldn’t have forcibly kept her. More than anyone else, I understand her nature. She became like this because of me."
"Because you love her too much, you can’t bear to let go," Li Xiuze patted his shoulder, "I don’t know if you’ve heard this saying before, but if you keep a kite gripped tightly in your hand, though you can control and admire it, if the string is too taut, it will break. Once the string breaks, the kite will fly higher and farther away, until it disappears forever."
Fu Xingzhou looked at his own palms.
"And it will also hurt you."
Li Xiuze thought to himself that his brother was smart enough to understand what he meant.
If he hadn’t decided to let go after this incident, then there truly was no cure for him.
He would only push Dr. Ye to extremes, and the outcome would be disastrous for both.
Letting go might still offer a glimmer of hope. The kite, swaying in the wind, might one day return to him.

When Ye Yan regained consciousness, she smelled the familiar scent of disinfectant.
"You’re awake, everything’s alright now," Meng Tian’s joyful voice came from beside her, "Miss, you’ve been asleep for a whole day. If you didn’t wake up, I might’ve had to punch you a couple of times."
Upon waking, Ye Yan immediately felt a piercing pain in her foot.
Her leg was suspended at the foot of the hospital bed, encased in a thick plaster cast.
"It’s not too severe a fracture. The doctor said that in about a month, you should be able to have the plaster removed," Meng Tian propped her chin while looking at her, "Are you hungry? What would you like to eat?"
"Is it just you here?"
"Who else would it be?" Meng Tian handed her a phone, "Here’s your phone, I charged it for you."
Ye Yan took it, relieved to see full bars of signal and internet on her device.
She had been disconnected from the world for so many days, she was somewhat unaccustomed to being back in an ’era’ with connectivity.
"By the way, Fu Xingzhou asked me to give this to you," Meng Tian pulled out an envelope.
"When did you see him?"
"He called me to say that you were in the hospital. When I arrived, I didn’t see him; this was handed to me by his bodyguard."
The envelope was large, seemingly containing quite a few items.
Ye Yan pulled them out one by one.
There was a red property deed for the spacious apartment in Yuqiao, but her name was written in the owner’s position.
She had never seen the property deed for the spacious apartment before. Looking at the date, it must have been written in her name when the house was purchased. That apartment had always been hers.
There was also a bank card, the last few numbers of which were her ID number, with the password attached on a piece of paper, using her birthday.
Seeing these, Ye Yan wasn’t too surprised, but what really shocked her was a divorce certificate.
When she opened it, it astonishingly had her and Fu Xingzhou’s names inside.
She had stood outside the Civil Affairs Bureau for half a day, unable to wait for him, yet while she lay in her hospital bed, the divorce certificate had already been delivered into her hands.
She understood that if Fu Xingzhou wanted to, there was nothing he couldn’t do, but if he didn’t want to, no one could force him.
The moment she saw the divorce certificate, Ye Yan suddenly couldn’t control her emotions, and tears uncontrollably streamed down her face.
Was this the outcome she wanted? Was this really what she wanted?
"Isn’t this an overreaction?" Meng Tian thought she was crying tears of joy, and while handing over tissues, said, "Fu Xingzhou has finally come to his senses this time, letting you go on his own initiative. You have no idea how I couldn’t reach you and had already called the police."
Meng Tian was saying something, but Ye Yan seemed not to have heard a word; in her eyes, the two names on the divorce certificate were like a knife gouging her heart.
She remembered once asking him where he kept the marriage certificate, asking if it had long been lost.
He had replied that it was locked in a safe and was supposed to be locked away for a lifetime.
As long as he didn’t tell her the password, she would never be able to divorce him.
Back then, she thought he was joking, never taking it seriously, and moreover, she never thought about divorcing him.
Because they had vowed to be happily married for a hundred years.
But those one hundred years seemed to have passed in just a year and a half, leading them to become complete strangers.
From marriage to divorce, it was just a change of two little booklets, yet it symbolized the divergence of two people’s lives.
Ye Yan’s tears fell heavily onto the surface of the documents, wetting the thin paper.
This was what she had desperately wanted, but why did holding it in her hands pain her so, leaving her utterly heartbroken?
Meng Tian was startled by this scene and finally realized that Ye Yan wasn’t crying tears of joy.
Anyone who has genuinely invested in a relationship, even still deeply in love with that person, wouldn’t be able to accept this divorce certificate.
"Ah Yan," Meng Tian stepped forward to embrace her, also shedding tears, "You will meet someone better, Fu Xingzhou isn’t worth your tears. You’re free now; you can be Dr. Ye again. Let’s look forward, okay?"
Ye Yan nodded while sobbing, but somewhere in her heart, it felt as though a huge hole had been hollowed out, relentlessly filling with cold air.
Look forward again, and she would meet someone better?
But she no longer believed in love, and even if there was someone better, she no longer had the strength to love again.
Fu Xingzhou, goodbye.
