Chapter 109:
Chapter 109: Chapter 109:
Lin Yihang didn’t know how he had found about today’s start of the winter vacation from high school, but with his abilities, it just took a little bit of inquiring.
"Brother Hang," Ye Zhun came over like the wind. "Are you here to pick me up?"
"Long time no see. I’m taking you out for a meal to celebrate the holiday," Lin Yihang said, patting Ye Zhun’s head. Both of them were almost the same height and stood there, tall and big.
Ye Yan walked over, and Lin Yihang greeted him with a smile, "Why do you seem skinnier than before after just a short while?"
Since Lin Yihang had come to see Ye Zhun, Ye Yan felt it wouldn’t be polite to reject his kindness. In the end, the three of them sat down in a restaurant and ordered dishes.
Lin Yihang asked about how Ye Zhun’s end-of-term exams had gone, and upon learning that he had once again ranked first in the entire grade, he wasn’t surprised. After all, when Ye Yan was studying back in the day, she never fell from that position despite being the youngest student.
It seems that behind every great sister there is a brother of equal talent.
Lin Yihang and Ye Zhun got along very well, their conversation moving from academics to basketball and then to current politics and economics.
However, Ye Yan felt a bit out of place. She didn’t follow basketball, was unfamiliar with the stars, and her understanding of politics and economics was limited as her world revolved entirely around medical matters.
As Ye Yan was feeling bored, her phone lit up.
"You guys keep talking, I’m going to take a call," she said.
Watching Ye Yan rising to leave with a light step and a smile curving her lips, Lin Yihang didn’t need to guess who was on the other end of the line.
He gripped the cup in his hand more tightly, a trace of bitterness spreading in his eyes.
Ye Yan was a smart person; she couldn’t be unaware of Fu Xingzhou’s promiscuous nature amidst the myriad of admirers. But she was still willing to get caught up in it. Was it because Fu Xingzhou’s charm was too strong, or was it that he was just too cunning? Ye Yan was intelligent but also naive when it came to love. The possibility that she could be beguiled and lured into his traps was not far-fetched. He just worried that once Fu Xingzhou lost interest, Ye Yan would be hurt. How would she emerge from that shadow then?
"Brother Hang, do you have any plans for the Spring Festival? My sister says she wants to take me on a trip."
"A trip? Where to?"
"Abroad." Ye Zhun blinked his eyes, carefully observing Lin Yihang’s reaction. "If you’re not working, you might as well come with us. You’re good with languages and know a lot. Having you there would put my sister at ease."
The boy indeed had his little schemes; he thought Lin Yihang was pursuing Ye Yan. His sister was no longer young and had been single due to her busy career, but she and Lin Yihang were old acquaintances. Whether it was his looks, character, or career, Lin Yihang had no faults to nitpick.
If he could pair them up, Ye Zhun felt he would have done a great service.
After thinking for a while, Lin Yihang replied, "I don’t really have work during that time and was thinking about giving myself a break anyway. I’m just not sure if your sister would mind an extra person joining."
Ye Zhun gestured for silence: "Let’s not tell her about this yet, and make it a surprise for her."
Lin Yihang was aware of the boy’s little scheme and chuckled, "Alright, let’s give her a surprise."
Meanwhile, Ye Yan, who was outside taking the call, had no idea about the "conspiracy" between the two. She softly greeted the caller with, "Hello?"
Fu Xingzhou’s somewhat hoarse voice came through, speaking to her gently in Cantonese.
"Are you feeling unwell?" Ye Yan felt his spirits seemed off.
"No," he replied.
"Then did something upsetting happen?"
Fu Xingzhou was touched by her keen sensitivity. He was just speaking in his normal tone, yet she had detected his worries.
"The old man is sick."
"What illness?" Ye Yan’s expression grew serious as well.
"It’s his kidneys again, he’s currently in the hospital for tests," said Fu Xingzhou as he stood by the window taking a drag of his cigarette. "I’ve already sought out the most renowned specialist in this field. They’ll arrive tomorrow. As for the specific diagnosis, we’ll know after the consultation."
Fu Wei Jun had been treated for kidney disease at Aocheng Hospital, initially under the care of Ye Yan, but after the "injection" incident, Bai Chutong took over.
At that time, the old man’s kidney disease was not serious and after being hospitalized, he had quickly recovered and was discharged.
Fu Xingzhou was the most filial, so when Fu Wei Jun fell ill, he was undoubtedly anxious and upset.
"Have you had lunch?"
"Not yet."
Ye Yan sighed, as he didn’t tend to take good care of himself, and now he was even less attentive to his own health.
After hanging up the phone, she found Ah Si and asked him to go buy some hot porridge to bring to the ward.
After Ye Yan finished eating, she saw the message from Ah Si, saying that Fu Xingzhou had initially refused to eat, but after he was told she bought it, he ate half a bowl.
"Sister, what are you thinking about? Brother Hen is asking you a question," Ye Zhun nudged Ye Yan, who was staring blankly at her phone.
Ye Yan snapped back to reality, feeling a bit embarrassed, "Sorry, I didn’t hear."
Lin Yihang was not bothered by her distraction, instead showing concern, "Is something troubling you? You’ve seemed distracted since a while ago."
"Indeed, there are some minor troubles."
"Do you need my help?"
Ye Yan looked at Lin Yihang’s sincere face, "Could I ask you to take Xiao Zhun home?"
"Aren’t you going home?"
"I’m going to Hong Kong."
"Now?"
Ye Yan nodded.
Lin Yihang pondered for a moment because Fu Xingzhou was from Hong Kong; her haste must mean she was going to meet Fu Xingzhou.
But Ye Zhun had only just started his holiday today. What kind of urgent matter would make her leave Ye Zhun behind?
Ye Zhun, of course, didn’t think so much, slapping his chest, "Sister, don’t worry, I’m big enough to take care of myself."
"I’ll take care of Xiao Zhun for you; he’s my younger brother too," Lin Yihang said without further inquiry, "Call me if you need anything."
Ye Yan thanked Lin Yihang repeatedly, then gave a few words of caution to Ye Zhun.
By the time she reached Hong Kong, it was already evening.
In the hospital room, Fu Xingzhou was sitting on the sofa, a tablet on his lap, with emails and messages popping up occasionally.
Fu Wei Jun was still sleeping, an IV drip in his arm.
The bodyguard came in twice with food, but the meals sat on the table untouched.
It was not until the door was pushed open a third time that Fu Xingzhou spoke impatiently, "Get out."
Strangely, the person didn’t heed his words and instead approached steadily.
Fu Xingzhou looked up and saw Ye Yan.
Surprise flashed through his eyes, and for a moment, he was so stunned he didn’t react.
"How is Uncle Fu?"
It was only after Ye Yan spoke that Fu Xingzhou set the tablet aside, stood up, and embraced her, "Why are you here?"
Seeing that Fu Wei Jun was asleep, Ye Yan wrapped her arms around his waist and whispered softly, "I was worried about you."
Her gaze shifted to the table on the side, where the food remained unopened, "I knew you wouldn’t eat properly."
A warmth filled Fu Xingzhou’s heart, and he chuckled, "Did you come all this way just to make sure I eat?"
Ye Yan stepped out of his embrace, "You eat first, and once you’re done, take me to see the doctor."
The medical facilities and standards at Port City Hospital were much higher than those at Aocheng Hospital, and with the Fu Family’s resources, they even had the option of seeking treatment abroad.
Ye Yan specialized in minimally invasive surgery and was not an expert in kidney diseases; she wanted to understand Fu Wei Jun’s condition to help Fu Xingzhou share the burden.
