Chapter 43: Chapter 43: The Raft that Pierces the Moon, First Entry into the Mortal World
The blood moon dyed the sky crimson.
The Taixu Bright Mirror was shrouded in a layer of crimson light.
"What is going on?" The Great Witch paused his work and gazed at the blood-red sky.
All three thousand members of the Moon Cultivating Clan witnessed this scene, their hearts shaken to the core.
The bloody light flickered briefly before vanishing.
"An ominous sign." The Great Witch, who had never seen such a peculiar phenomenon in his life, was equally perplexed.
Judging by this spectacle, it was undoubtedly a divine omen of calamity.
At this moment, an eight-year-old child emerged from the forest, greeted warmly by the Moon Cultivators around him.
"Young Witch Master!"
"Young Witch Master!"
Song Lin surveyed the work site. The Moon Cultivators wielded jade axes and jade chisels, smashing gemstones such as gold, silver, glaze, coral, amber, tridacna, and agate into powdered form.
These powders were then transported to a massive cauldron to be melted under a fiery blaze, poured into molds, and cooled into bricks.
This was the work of the Moon Cultivators; the moon eroded rapidly and required periodic repairs, lest it collapse entirely.
The Seven Treasures—like Golden Ying and agate—composed the moon’s essence. Once weathered, they reverted to their original state, whereupon the cultivators collected and reforged them into bricks.
Some fragments drifted into the void, which required the Great Witch’s divine skills to retrieve.
"You’ve come?" The Great Witch smiled, "Have you mastered the divine skills yet?"
"I have." Song Lin nodded.
"No wonder you’re always daydreaming. How does the Mortal World look?"
"It’s alright," Song Lin replied calmly, as if unimpressed—after all, it wasn’t his first time seeing it.
The Great Witch was rather pleased. This disciple was steadier than expected, growing at an astonishing rate. At just four years old, he displayed the maturity of an eight- or nine-year-old.
The faster the growth, the longer he could serve as the Great Witch in the future.
"Remember this: Moon Cultivators are forbidden from descending to the Mortal World without permission. However, as the Young Witch Master, you’ll have a chance to tour the Mortal World once you’re older."
The Great Witch not only oversaw the moon’s maintenance but also possessed a Moon-Piercing Raft capable of carrying a single person.
"Understood!" Song Lin suddenly recalled something he saw earlier in the Mortal World and couldn’t help but raise a question.
"The Queen Mother of the West? How could the Queen Mother of the West be an Evil God? The Queen Mother of the West wields the Five Punishments of Calamities, possesses the undying elixir, and is the Taiyin Essence, ruler of the Kunlun Immortals! How could she possibly be an Evil God?" the Great Witch countered.
"Perhaps this time it’s the Queen Mother issuing a warning. It’s a pity the Han Emperor won’t listen; disaster looms for sure."
"Should we intervene?" Song Lin probed, thinking that aiding the Han Dynasty might align with this world’s karma.
"Why intervene? The rise and fall of Mortal World dynasties have nothing to do with us. A Moon Cultivator’s duty is to maintain the Taixu Bright Mirror," the Great Witch admonished, fearing his disciple might grow enamored with the Mortal World’s splendor.
Moon Cultivators’ lifespans reached a maximum of three hundred sixty-five years. The fast-flowing time of the Mortal World could drastically shorten their lives if they lingered too long.
"Understood."
Song Lin returned to diligent cultivation, aiming to reach the Fetal Breathing Stage as soon as possible and summon items from the real world.
In this world, the Fetal Breathing Stage was also known as the Small Circulation Realm, while Qi Cultivation corresponded to the Grand Circulation.
According to the records, attaining these realms required absorbing moonlight essence and solar essence respectively.
"It’s a pity Moon Cultivators don’t practice these techniques. Otherwise, mastering them could even enhance our cultivation in the real world, accelerating advancement to the Qi Cultivation Realm," Song Lin muttered to himself.
For now, the priority was elevating his cultivation level and growth, followed by a careful exploration of the Mortal World.
...
In the real world, within a hidden chamber.
Song Lin adjusted his breathing in meditation, channeling Peace True Energy throughout his body.
This energy was Yin-aligned, though Song Lin rarely practiced Yin-based techniques. At the Taoist Disciple stage, the properties of True Qi didn’t significantly affect the effectiveness of his spells.
Moreover, the Otherworldly Taoist Skills he had learned were quite potent.
With that in mind, Song Lin consumed a Qi Nourishing Pill he had refined himself before delving into an even deeper meditative state.
As time passed, a month slipped by in the real world, while roughly three years elapsed in the Moon Cultivation World.
...
In the Moon Cultivation World, seven years of cultivation had passed.
Three years of dedicated cultivation allowed Song Lin to successfully step into the Small Circulation Realm.
Name: Song Lin
Type: Moon Cultivator
Realm: Small Circulation Stage (Fetal Breathing Stage)
Taoist Realm: Twenty Years
Divine Skills: Taiyin Golden Pupil, "Lao Mountain Taoist Skills", "Guang Chengzi’s Beidou Red Dragon Qi Gong."
Items: Taiyin Bone Mirror, Miasma Green Pearl, Three Yang Sword Talisman, Firework Talisman, Avoiding Filth Talisman.
"Laurel Water truly works wonders," Song Lin thought. His Taoist Realm was astoundingly high, largely thanks to the daily consumption of Laurel Water and Jade Shavings Rice.
Jade Shavings Rice, also known as Seven Treasures Rice, was made from the leftover fragments of moon-maintenance works combined with Laurel Water.
In the Young Witch Master’s palace, Song Lin flipped his wrist, revealing a leather pouch in his palm.
From the pouch, he retrieved the Bone Mirror and inspected his skeletal frame.
The Moon Cultivators exhibited a robust constitution, with meridians far larger than those of ordinary humans.
His physique now resembled that of a sixteen- or seventeen-year-old, his skin smoother and fairer, his features more refined. Combined with the silver lunar markings on his body, he was an unparalleled beauty.
Song Lin sought out the Great Witch and requested permission to descend to the Mortal World.
The Great Witch pondered for a moment before finally agreeing.
Summoning a hand, he conjured a wooden raft made of laurel wood from the void. The raft, jade-like in appearance, emitted a gentle silvery glow.
This was the Moon-Piercing Raft, seemingly just a simple raft, yet capable of withstanding the Nine Heavens Gang Wind and traveling through the cosmic vacuum.
Song Lin boarded the raft and transformed into a stream of light, vanishing from the spot.
"Remember, you are to remain in the Mortal World for five years before returning. After five years, the raft will bring you back automatically!" The Great Witch’s voice gradually faded away.
Some underlings appeared puzzled.
"Great Witch, why let him explore the Mortal World for five years? I don’t recall any such rules."
The Great Witch’s expression turned grave. Instead of answering, he asked, "Do you remember the blood moon incident from three years ago?"
"I do. Didn’t you say it was the Queen Mother issuing a warning to the Mortal World?"
"I was wrong, gravely wrong. It’s a pity I didn’t realize it sooner."
The Great Witch’s face was filled with regret.
"In truth, it was the Queen Mother warning us! Yesterday, as I observed the stars, I noticed the Emperor Star shifting, a Demon Star entering Ziwei. Tomorrow marks the rare occurrence of the Seven Stars in a Row, and coupled with the Heavenly Dog Eating the Moon..."
"The Heavenly Dog Eating the Moon? Isn’t that just the mortal perception of the sun’s light being blocked?"
The subordinate was even more confused. Isn’t that a regular occurrence?
"No, this is the true Heavenly Dog Eating the Moon! They are coming."
The subordinate suddenly realized something and his expression turned utterly terrified.
The truth dawned on him: the Young Witch Master wasn’t being sent for mere training, but to avoid the impending storm.
This was the Great Witch’s painstaking foresight.
Unaware of these events, Song Lin, riding the Moon-Piercing Raft, descended onto a mountain peak.
The moment he landed, the raft transformed into a streak of light, merging into the moon-shaped marking at Song Lin’s brow.
This place was known as Pure Moon Mountain, a location Song Lin had discovered while surveying the realms... or, perhaps, "spying" might be more accurate.
Signs of cultivators were present here, seemingly a sect with structured activity.
Song Lin came seeking cultivation techniques.
At the base of Pure Moon Mountain.
It was the dead of night, with dark clouds shrouding the moon.
The forest was eerie, filled with a dense miasma.
Two groups were engaged in a fierce confrontation.
Leading one side was a stunning white-haired woman, accompanied by twelve female disciples.
Clutching an iron mace, she wielded its azure flames to protect the disciples behind her.
Boom!
Fiery sparks exploded, reducing an approaching evil ghost to ashes.
The disciples held treasure swords, chanting incantations. Enveloped with spiritual light, the swords clashed alongside the white-haired woman, battling the evil spirits.
A seemingly endless wave of evil ghosts surged forward, overwhelming the group.
The demonic aura thickened, while green fog masked the path ahead. Demons encircled the women with no escape route in sight.
From among the horde of evil ghosts, a towering green-skinned Yaksha, standing a full ten feet tall, with crimson hair, a face like carved bronze, and fangs like daggers, stepped forward.
Grinning hideously, the Yaksha exhaled a breath of foul air. "Luan Xiu! Your time is up. Heh, all I did was devour a mortal village, and you’ve been chasing me so relentlessly? Regret it now, don’t you?"
The white-haired woman, Luan Xiu, spat in disgust, shouting back, "Regret? My only regret is not killing you sooner!"
"Haha, keep screaming. No savior’s coming to rescue you! Boys, get them all!"
Hundreds of evil ghosts charged like a tidal wave.
The women’s faces revealed despair.
"A world in chaos, how I wish I could exterminate every last demon!"
Luan Xiu shut her eyes, overcome with hopelessness.
Just then, the clouds parted, revealing a clear sky.
Pure moonlight spilled across the land as a white-robed Taoist descended slowly from the void.
