Chapter 123: Chapter 119: The Treasure of Muu Emperor, Coiled Dragon Jade Lamp (1/3)
Chang’an.
Experts from all major forces gathered.
Above Chang’an, colorful spells flickered endlessly. Cultivators appeared and vanished at will.
The fight was furious, and imperial power was nothing in their eyes.
"Stop!"
At that moment, a Qinglong (Azure Dragon) broke through the formation.
It charged into the heart of the frenzied crowd, and all martial spells and magical artifacts bounced off an immense, invisible armor.
As the Azure Dragon disappeared, it transformed into a man dressed in green and a woman dressed in white.
The man’s name was Zhangsun Zhi, and the woman’s name was Pei Li—two of the renowned successors of the Other Shore Temple.
The man was handsome, the woman beautiful—clearly more than ordinary mortals.
The Azure Dragon just now had been the Qinglong Hook in Zhangsun Zhi’s hand, while the woman wielded a Demon-suppressing Sword.
The moment the two emerged, the fighting ceased.
"Stop!"
The man had been trained under the Heavenly Intent Divine Monk, and the woman under Wang Qii Immortal.
They were figures of the Other Shore Temple, representing heaven’s will in this mortal realm.
Not to mention being leaders of the righteous path, their cultivation alone made them impossible not to respect.
"Isn’t the Other Shore Temple supposed to abstain from earthly disputes? Why bother competing with us for treasures?"
"Apologies, but this magic treasure is untouchable. It relates to the fate of the world," Zhangsun Zhi replied coldly.
"And what if I touch it?"
Someone expressed defiance.
Legend had it that this was a treasure left by the Beiqi Royal Family.
Those present had been gathered as Abnormal Soldiers under various warlords.
They had come here with a mission.
The place where they had just fought was an ancient bridge said to have been built by the Beiqi Royal Family. When Gao Yang usurped the throne, fearing his descendants might repeat his downfall, he buried a large stock of treasures beneath the bridge for future emergencies.
According to widespread tales, the Gao Family’s hidden treasures formed a literal mountain. Whoever claimed them would hold a massive advantage in any conquest.
Seeing how domineering the Other Shore Temple representatives were, the crowd erupted in dissent.
"Exactly! Officials can set fires, but commoners can’t light lamps? Is this your temple’s property?"
"Let the worthy claim the treasure!"
"They’re only two people. Let’s take them down together!"
Crash!
Several individuals couldn’t hold back and moved toward the ancient bridge. On its pier was a hole large enough for two people, where the treasure was said to be buried.
"Hmph!" Pei Li’s beautiful eyes brimmed with killing intent.
Swish!
The sword unsheathed, radiating a frosty brilliance.
A phantom in the shape of a Black Tortoise appeared faintly, composed of a turtle entwined with a snake.
The Xuanwu Sword Energy swirled, and two of the advancing figures were dismembered on the spot.
Witnessing the deadly power of her magical artifact, the clamorous crowd fell silent once more.
"Anyone else dissatisfied?" Pei Li swept her gaze around.
All who met her eyes quickly lowered their heads.
These two had been meticulously chosen by Heavenly Intent and Wang Qii as fated individuals to fulfill heaven’s mandate.
Their support for the True Heavenly Son was like adding wings to a tiger.
"This is unfair! At least let us take a look—we came all this way."
Zhangsun Zhi hesitated briefly but eventually relented.
After all, their heavy-handedness could tarnish the temple’s reputation.
Surveying the crowd, Zhangsun Zhi spoke:
"You may look, but if anyone acts without permission, don’t blame me for being merciless. Know that the Other Shore Temple harbors no selfish motives; it is all for the common good, for the salvation of all under heaven. Half of this treasure will be distributed to the people to alleviate their suffering, and the other half will be entrusted to a worthy ruler."
"If I, Zhangsun Zhi, so much as covet a single coin here, may I be struck by lightning and die a horrible death!"
"Fine! We’ll hold you to it!"
"Certainly. All present heroes may bear witness."
Zhangsun Zhi had a clear conscience.
As a member of the Zhangsun Family, he had no interest in gold and silver. The Pei Family, represented by Pei Li, regarded such riches with even greater disdain.
Quickly, the group proceeded inside one by one.
After passing through a long corridor, their vision suddenly expanded.
As their eyes adjusted, many were nearly blinded by the sight before them.
A mountain formed entirely of gold, silver, and precious gems stood towering before them.
Ten zhang high, it glimmered with gold, silver, agate, coral, pearls—one on each side.
Yet the most striking feature wasn’t the treasure.
It was the lamp at the center of the grand hall.
This lamp was entirely made of jade, standing seven feet five inches tall. Dozens of branches extended from its body, adorned with octagonal jade bells.
The lamp stand was crafted in the shape of a Coiled Dragon, spiraling upwards. Its mouth held a Luminous Pearl, emitting a green radiance. The dragon’s scales shimmered, as though it were alive.
"It’s here after all!" Zhangsun Zhi said excitedly.
This time, their goal wasn’t merely the gold and silver but the Coiled Dragon Jade Lamp.
Legend had it this lamp was a divine artifact of King Mu of Zhou, carried during his travels around the world. Protected by the Coiled Dragon, it repelled all evil.
Possessing it conferred the blessing of heaven’s mandate. Unless one was fated to wield heaven’s will, the lamp would not appear.
"The Heavenly Intent Divine Monk and Wang Qii Immortal were correct. The Other Shore Temple indeed holds heaven’s mandate," Zhangsun Zhi thought, further solidifying his conviction.
Though the Zhangsun Family had served the Sui Dynasty, Zhangsun Zhi, after his time at Pudu Zen Temple, no longer believed the Yang Family held heaven’s mandate. After all, the empire had been founded with the Demon Sect’s help. The true ruler wasn’t the Yang Family.
"It’s actually the Coiled Dragon Jade Lamp?"
"What lamp?"
"The Coiled Dragon Jade Lamp is a divine relic of the ancient kings. King Mu of Zhou left two treasures: the Bone-shining Mirror and the Coiled Dragon Jade Lamp. The last record of it was from the Pre-Qin period. To think such a relic truly exists!"
Seeing the treasure, the crowd could no longer suppress their greed.
As the saying goes, fortune favors the bold.
Though Zhangsun Zhi and Pei Li were formidable, they were just two people.
If everyone attacked together, one might gamble their life, but the rewards could be immense if they succeeded.
The pair noticed the avarice in everyone’s eyes and felt uneasy.
"Everyone, attack together!"
"Amitabha Buddha!!"
Just as the group was about to charge, a Buddhist chant resonated from afar.
In an instant, the room was filled with radiant light, and lotus flowers bloomed.
Within the glow appeared a monk, majestic and solemn, his eyebrows trailing down to his cheeks.
"Greetings, Heavenly Intent Divine Monk!"
Upon seeing the monk, Zhangsun Zhi and Pei Li immediately knelt.
"Do not act rashly, patrons. Return to your homes. This artifact is not meant for mortals to possess,"
Seeing Heavenly Intent’s appearance, the crowd’s fervor cooled significantly.
This was one of the two legendary divine monks of the Buddhist sect.
As Shenxin had never demonstrated his power, Heavenly Intent was widely regarded as the foremost expert of Central Plains Buddhism.
Hearing Heavenly Intent’s leniency, the crowd departed without delay.
"Thank you for your efforts," the Heavenly Intent Divine Monk said to the pair.
"It is our duty," Zhangsun Zhi replied, overwhelmed with reverence.
Though a disciple of Pudu Zen Temple, Zhangsun Zhi had rarely seen the Heavenly Intent Divine Monk in person. Toward this legendary monk, he felt nothing but deep admiration.
As the crowd prepared to leave...
BOOM!
Suddenly, a massive explosion erupted from the horizon.
The entire chamber’s ceiling was torn asunder by a tremendous force.
Rocks flew, smoke filled the air, and sunlight poured in as the crowd shielded their mouths and noses.
When the smoke cleared, a group of Taoist-robed figures hovered in the sky above.
At their forefront was Song Lin, who formed strange hand seals that unleashed the Five Mountains Seal, responsible for the earlier destruction.
"Heavenly Intent, we meet again!" Song Lin said with a faint smile, his tone casual, as if greeting an old friend.
"It’s you!!"
Heavenly Intent’s expression shifted dramatically.
Though he had never met Song Lin, he had heard of his deeds and appearance.
The tragic fate of Wang Qii resurfaced vividly in his mind.
"Attack!" Heavenly Intent struck first, producing a golden Demon-Subduing Pestle.
The Vajra Devil Subduing Pestle enlarged in the wind, resembling a massive battering ram, crashing down toward Song Lin.
Simultaneously, Zhangsun Zhi and Pei Li attacked together—one unleashing the Azure Dragon and the other the Black Tortoise, which roared as they charged forward.
Song Lin remained unmoved, his Peace Seal emerging.
A golden glow enveloped him as a radiant sun appeared overhead.
Boom!
The Vajra Devil Subduing Pestle and the Azure Dragon and Black Tortoise struck the golden barrier but could not penetrate it.
Song Lin shifted his hand seals again, this time invoking the Great Thousand Seal.
Countless massive golden handprints filled the sky, descending indiscriminately upon the crowd below.
Heavenly Intent’s pupils contracted as he hastily retracted the Vajra Pestle, forming a bridge over the trio’s heads.
Clang, clang, clang...
The handprints struck the Vajra Pestle like metal clashing, producing sharp sounds.
Aside from Heavenly Intent and his two companions, the remaining individuals were pulverized into a bloody pulp.
No one showed any concern for this indiscriminate slaughter.
They were here for vengeance, not justice.
Zhengyang, Xuansu, and others stood by, observing. There was no need for them to intervene; Song Lin alone was enough to overwhelm the Buddhist sect’s foremost monk.
The Vajra Devil Subduing Pestle could not withstand the relentless barrage of handprints. Occasionally, one slipped through, forcing Heavenly Intent to grow three zhang tall. His skin turned a bronze hue as he shielded the two behind him.
"Heavenly Intent!!" Zhangsun Zhi shouted, tears of blood streaking down his face, hatred for the Demon Ancestor burning in his heart.
"Too weak."
Song Lin shook his head slightly. Though his cultivation was on par with Heavenly Intent’s, their power levels were worlds apart. The Heavenly Human Six Seals, a culmination of myriad techniques, left Heavenly Intent utterly overwhelmed.
It was time to end this. Song Lin closed his eyes, channeling the Five Elements energy within and preparing to unleash the Thunder Skill.
His Thunder Skill had two types: a Yang variant, conjured with the soul’s connection to the heavens, called Yang Thunder, and a Yin variant, conjured with True Qi, called Yin Thunder.
BOOM!
Dark clouds gathered, and from them, numerous serpentine lightning bolts emerged.
The bolts descended upon Heavenly Intent at blinding speed, striking before the thunderclap’s echo reached.
This was Yin Thunder, numerous and highly conductive. A single strike could spread over ten zhang.
The lightning instantly turned Zhangsun Zhi and Pei Li into charred corpses!
"No!"
Heavenly Intent’s eyes turned blood red. These two had been meticulously chosen as fated individuals, capable of preserving their sect’s hold over the realm.
But he was powerless to help them. Even his Vajra Body, impervious to weapons and fire, became a conductor under the wrath of the lightning.
Under the relentless assault of the Yin Thunder, the Vajra Body broke. Heavenly Intent spat blood and fell to one knee.
"Ghost Valley, your wickedness and tyranny will bring divine retribution!" Heavenly Intent snarled, unyielding.
"Perhaps..."
Just as Song Lin prepared his finishing blow, a Yin Yang Roulette flew in from the horizon, accompanied by a carefree figure who stepped between them.
