Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Taoist School Leader, The Final Obstacle
Tangg Valley.
A humanoid phantom hovered above Song Lin’s head.
The appearance of the phantom was identical to his own, its entire form bathed in Pure Yang Qi.
This was his soul.
Now, the soul had begun to adapt to the tempering of Pure Yang Qi, and was becoming increasingly solid.
When the soul neared a physical state and condensed into something akin to a dharma image, based on the nature of the Qi it bathed in, it would mark the true Great Success of Divine Establishment.
Once Divine Establishment reached great success, the union of Qi and spirit could be achieved, enabling the initiation of the Foundation Establishment Breakthrough.
The Golden Core’s formation varied based on the nature of the True Qi.
If Song Lin utilized Pure Yang Qi to temper his soul and combined it with the Taiyin Moonlight True Qi he previously cultivated, it was highly likely that he could forge a Pure Yang and Yin Golden Core, achieving a level of cultivation far superior to others of the same realm.
While Song Lin diligently cultivated, at the Pudu Zen Temple in Chang’an City...
This monastery thrived with incense offerings, and even its Buddha statues were forged of pure gold. It housed over three thousand monks, with four great monks and two Great Saints among them.
Currently, only three great monks remained; one great monk, Du Ku, had been killed overseas.
In the Chief’s Hall.
An elder with a weathered face, white beard and hair, and eyebrows drooping below his cheeks sat solemnly.
"Chief, Du Ku has passed into Nirvana. He was killed by members of the Demon Sect, and none of those sent in pursuit that day returned," one monk reported.
The Chief’s name was Tianyi, one of the two Divine Monks of the Pudu Zen Temple.
"Passed into Nirvana?" Tianyi opened his clouded eyes, a flicker of compassion passing through them. "It is fate. In the end, Du Ku could not escape this tribulation."
"The Demon Sect ignores the grand designs of the world, wreaking havoc for their own selfish desires. Why must the common people suffer so?"
Tianyi began to chant a mysterious mantra.
He understood that with Du Ku’s death, the grudge had been carved in stone. In the future, it would undoubtedly escalate into a life-and-death struggle, with the conflict ending only when one side was utterly obliterated.
"How are the refugees outside the city faring?" Tianyi asked.
"Porridge has been distributed, but depending solely on Pudu Zen Temple’s efforts, we cannot save all the common people," replied a monk named Du E, who was also one of the four great monks.
"The Yangg Family’s momentum is unstoppable; it cannot be obstructed by the strength of a single person. Let them go their way," Tianyi said.
The Taoist School was not as vulnerable as it seemed. In the Central Plains’ Taoist School, the Meridian Tiangang Sect had a True Person of dharma image named Wang Qii, known as the foremost expert of the Taoist School.
This man led an unfettered life. Though aligned with the Righteous Sect, if Pudu Zen Temple forcibly intervened, Wang Qii might intervene as well.
"What a pity. Lord Chen is a magnanimous ruler and holds the Buddhist Sect in high regard. Alas, the world will not be his to govern," Tianyi lamented.
Lord Chen was Chen Shubao of the Southern Dynasty, whom the Buddhist Sect had chosen as the rightful ruler of the mortal realm.
Compared to the Northern Dynasty, which often turned to eradicating Buddhism, they favored the more lenient Southern Dynasty.
Reflecting on this, Du E found himself somewhat unwilling to accept it. "Chief, Yangg Jian is currently in Chang’an. Why not intervene yourself? If we kill Yangg Jian, we might still have a chance to turn the tide."
Tap, tap, tap!
Just then, footsteps echoed from outside the hall.
An elderly Taoist, adorned in a tall hat and wide robe, walked in.
The surrounding monks did not even glance at him, as though they saw nothing.
Only Du E and Tianyi took notice of his presence.
"Wang Qii? Why are you here? Instead of leading the Taoist School, why have you come to this place?" Du E spat venomously.
"Me? A leader? I am but an Independent Immortal, with no intention of leading anyone. I merely came to reminisce with Elder Tianyi," Wang Qii replied, entirely unmoved by the younger monk’s hostility.
"Du E, Immortal Wang is an honored guest. Show some respect," Tianyi scolded before turning to Wang Qii. "Please, have a seat. Du E, serve our guest some tea."
The two chatted idly for a while before Tianyi abruptly asked, "Are you truly not the leader of the Taoist School?"
"Do I look the part of a leader? It was a title they conferred of their own accord," Wang Qii replied.
"Even the Meridian Tiangang Sect has members siding with the Northern Dynasty," Tianyi remarked.
"That is the decision of the current Sect Leader. So long as they do nothing to harm the common people, I will not interfere," Wang Qii replied indifferently.
Decades had passed since Wang Qii last visited the Pudu Zen Temple. When he saw the porridge distribution shelter outside the temple, he felt genuine admiration for these monks.
Perhaps it was due to his past experience seeking enlightenment in the temple, or perhaps it was his own observations. Regardless of internal strife, Wang Qii still trusted what he saw.
In this regard, the Pudu Zen Temple had done no wrong.
"Do you think Yangg Jian will succeed?" Tianyi inquired.
"What does the master think?" Wang Qii replied without a direct answer.
"This humble monk cannot say. However, should Yangg Jian defy the heavens and commit atrocities in the future, I hope you will refrain from involvement," Tianyi said solemnly.
"Naturally. This humble Taoist seeks nothing but freedom, and will not meddle in mortal affairs. Hahaha!" Wang Qii laughed heartily as he exited the hall.
In the second year of the Nuogao Record.
Yangg Jian unified the mortal realm, establishing the Sui Dynasty and founding the first year of the Kaihuang era.
In the third year of the Nuogao Record.
The Emperor planned to eradicate Buddhism. The people spontaneously took to the streets in protest. Taoist School’s foremost expert, Wang Qii, entered the palace and conversed with the Emperor through the night. The eradication of Buddhism was canceled. Tianyi Divine Monk received auspicious omens, which he presented to the Emperor.
In the fourth year of the Nuogao Record.
Song Lin began to make significant progress in Spirit Refining.
Tangg Valley.
Temperatures soaring to thousands of degrees no longer caused him any harm.
A faint golden hue adorned his pupils, and the True Qi coursing through his body carried scorching energy.
Every gesture carried immense and overwhelming power.
Song Lin focused intently on a stone on the ground. The fist-sized rock began to rise into the air.
This required no True Qi, but relied solely on his intent. Now, he could influence reality with his mental will, affecting an area within a hundred-zhang radius.
At this stage, his Spirit Refining progress was only a tenth complete.
When he achieved full completion, this range would likely expand tenfold.
Song Lin checked his cultivation panel.
